MPT and a V8

I use an Aluratek Bluetooth pc adapter and have installed MPT 4 on my laptop - Everything seems to work until I get to the phone setup part of MPT and then I get the dreaded, windows error that shuts down MPT. Every time. According to my phone, it's paired with the PC. any ideas?
