AT&T Branded Sony Ericsson z750a Review

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, I have been testing out this phone for about a week. I think i have used it enough to write a little review about it. Pictures will follow in the next message.

Per my previous reviews I will break it down into the following categories.
1. Build Quality
2. RF Performance
3. Call Quality
4. Sound Quality
5. OS
6. Displays
7. Camera

Build Quality
========
This is a typical SE flip phone. It has a great hinge. Like most SE flip phones the hinge has that "click" when it opens or closes. This makes it seem much more sturdy that regular flip hinges.
The materials used, for the most part, are high quality plastics. The top of the phone has a reflective vacuumed glass build. (Fingerprint magnet--at least for the gray and black.)
Perhaps the worst plastic is used for the battery door. It is just a thin piece of flexible plastic.
Also the material surrounded the keys on the keypad is quite thin.

RF Performance
==========
Phone has excellent reception. In a 3G area I was well able to grab and hold onto a 3G signal. This phone even works in my house, a true test of RF in my opinion. (Brick/Metal siding with a metal roof.)

Call Quality
=======
Very good call quality. Callers on the other end come thru nice and clear. Speakerphone works nice as well. No problem to report there. Seems louder than the w580i,w300i and z525a.

Sound Quality
======
Pretty good sound quality. The main playback speaker is located on the back of the phone. So it is pretty easy to cover it with your hand by mistake.

Operating System
============
While the Main Menu contains the usual AT&T branded Icons, the rest of the menu's and the UI is all Sony Ericsson. No complaints, other than it might be a tad slower than the unbranded software. Still, a pleasure to use.

Displays
======
The internal QVGA screen is very bright and easy to read. At 2.2" it is no longer large by any means, but it is pretty large by SE standards.
The external dispay is just an OLED. You cant even see it thru the mirror finish unless you press the side button. (Or when you close the phone or recieve calls/text messages.)

Camera
======
The z750a has a 2.0 Megapixel camera with no flash. For a basic camera phone it is pretty good. Nothing to write home about.

Overall I give this phone an 8 out of 10.

I thought the branded version was supposed to have GPS. Or did I not read correctly on the AT&T forum?

No GPS as far as I can determine. But I am not sure if this is the final firmware version before release either.

The one I had previous to this one only had 1 Theme, and personal wallpapers messed the theme up terribly. This one seems not to have any of the earlier software bugs in it.

Dude how much was this?

Also any new settings that are NOT part of the AT&T Customization?

Thanks great review.

Such as ?? I do know that at least on the firmware on THIS phone, that Network Selection (3G and GSM or GSM Only) are not locked out.

When can we expect an AT&T release of this phone...or can we? I had a z710i a little over a year ago...and thought it was one of the best SE's I had ever used. I would love to get my hands on this one...

I'm here with my ex's W580 for a few days (traded my K550i) and I noticed that the RSS reader isn't in messaging anymore. Where did it go? It's reserved in the memory status menu but I see no link to it from the phone...

Anyways, great write-up. I love the pics...I'm not too sure about getting the Z750 though...

RSS reader should now be within the Organizer.
Shortcut is within the Activity Menu> Shortcuts.
Also it may NOW be apart of the NetFront browser.

This thing needs to be flashed badly...

Has anyone found the RSS reader on the w580? Mine is also ATT branded and the RSS logo shows at the top next to the signal graphic due to me browsing a site with the default browser that offered RSS feeds. I selected to add the feeds but cannot find where to read the feeds now. HELP please!
