Tilt Wifi Turns off When Screen Does

Anyone know how to change this?

When I have wifi on, if the screen goes into powersave mode, the wifi turns itself off. Bluetooth and the main radio continue to function.

Annoying as I am using a wifi connection at an overseas airport (telephone radio off) and everytime it goes into powersave, the push email no longer functions.

I have moved the wifi power slider to "Best Performance" but it has not made a difference.

I'm sure there's a free way to do this, but the programs that I know are able to do this are PhoneAlarm and Comm Manager Pro. They work by activating the wifi driver directly, rather than utilizing the "power-saving" features built into the standard Comm Manager. CMP does it automatically; in PA you have to specify that it use the driver in the config file.

There is definetly no easy setting in the phone. This has been true on the 8125 and the 8525 so far.

I guess they figure you don't want to be draining your battery.

While getting wifi to work at all on my PDA2K was always a pain, it did not turn off based on the screen.

Guess I will just have to adjust.

Thanks

It's there to save battery life, WiFi takes a lot of juice.

There should be a power-saving checkbox in the WiFi Settings. If not I know you can enable it through a registry hack.

I realize that. However, there should be an option to disable this behavior.

I wish WiFi would stay on, too.

As I said, try the two programs I mentioned.

Are there any free programs or registry edits to do that?

All previous WM PDAs I've had would let you turn off the screen backlight but leave the device on (not in standby.) For some reason the Tilt doesn't have this mode, it's standby or on.

On those I'd just disable the auto-standby and have it blank the screen. This was good enough for periods of time when i wanted wifi to stay on.

I'm going hunting through the registry now, I'll let you know what I find.

Awesome, thanks RF!
