BB 8830 constantly "searching for network"??!!

Hi, since the past couple weeks, my BlackBerry 8830 loses wireless signal every few minutes, and the status almost constantly shows "searching for network".

VZW says they've never heard of this happening before, and they'll send me a replacement handset.

I don't neccessarily want to get a new handset as my old PIN is known to a lot of my friends...

I've done all the usual battery removals, reboots, wipe handheld, reload OS, register handheld, send service books, updated PRL, etc. etc. at least a couple times each.

Any thoughts? Thx.

Return it for a new one. Sounds like the radio has gone bad.

Oh? Any idea what could've caused this?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/109)

Who knows what caused it? Sometime things fail. That's why we have warranties.

Oh, I see...may as well take a replacement unit then, thx!

No such luck; new unit does exactly the same thing. Since this only happens in one area of Canada, I'll chalk it up to a faulty Bell or Telus tower/roaming signal.
Let's see what the trouble ticket I opened with Verizon sheds light on.

I dont think that VZW will care if your issue is in one area of Canada. The issue is with the Canadian carrier (I assume Telus). Not every carrier is going to have service in every location. I doubt there is much you will be able to do, with the exception of switching carriers to a carrier that covers that specific location better than Telus does.

It would have been nice to have this information up front (one tower; in Canada; roaming) rather than what you said in the first posting, which indicated to me that it didn't work at all.

Since my initial posting, it has happened in a few areas. There have also been numerous other posters with VZW 8830s in other parts of canada with the same problem regarding the 'constantly searching for network" message.
VZW has been working with me quite well, and after two trouble tickets, and the Telus Roaming Support calling me several times this past week at Verizon's request, all parties managed to solve the issue.
I reverted back to the previous Device OS software version 4.2.2.66 & it fixed this problem; the Device OS 4.2.2.148 seems to have a problem deciding between the 17500 & 16420 SIDs - most definitely a Verizon issue.
Hopefully this issue is fixed in the upcoming 4.2.2.176 device OS software release.
