I have a question. How should I handle this? Just got a T-Mobile pearl. I was thinking of changing the software on the phone with the AT&T software for use on AT&T. The phone is locked right now. I'm thinking I have to unlock it first then change he software. Can I update software then unlock it? Eitherway I do it, will it work????? What is the best way to handle this?

The best way to handle it is to get it unlocked first, either through your provider, or through someone in the Marketplace.
Not sure if you can just flash AT&T stuff on there, not sure if that work on BB like it does on Motorolas. I don't think that you would need to change it, after you enter the AT&T mms/internet settings, it should work pretty nicely. You won't have the AT&T mall and stuff, and it will still show T-Mobile stuff, like T-Zones, or whatever they use.

All of the BlackBerry software is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers. You do NOT need to unlock a T-Mobile Pearl to put "AT&T" software on it.
Here's a short version of what you need to do; I assume you already have Desktop Manager installed:
- Download the Handheld Operating system for the Pearl. The "AT&T" version of whatever you want to.
- Install that downloaded OS onto your PC
- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive
- Start Desktop Manager
Please note that you can NOT change the splash screen that comes up when you restart the BB.

And it's nothing like a Motorola....

Thankyou. I kind of am leaning toward NJBlackberry. I've done a software upgrade before but only this time since it is a T-mobile locked phone needed for use on AT&T I needed to know if once the software is changed to AT&T will that make it harder to unlock or will it even need to be unlocked having AT&T software on it. Will that change the way it has to be unlocked, will it make it unable to be unlocked, .....

The version of software has nothing to do with the ability to unlock. You can run any version from any carrier. And once it is unlocked, changing the software will not lock it.
