Sidekick id and 3 charger

I would like to know if it is possible to us a sidekick 3 charger with the id because I plan on buying an id from my friend but she only has a sidekick 3 charge and she told me that it doesn't work with her id, but I thought since they use the same battery they would use the same charge and I'm starting to think maybe the port for the charger is broken.
