Help connecting to a Motorola W490!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just got a Motorola W490 and I want to be able to connect to it with my computer to transfer contacts, ring tones, etc. between my computer and the phone.

I have no idea what drivers or software that I need. I know Motorola has software that I can buy, but I rather not pay for software unless I have to.

Please Help if anyone has any info/ideas. Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as well but not that many people have this phone or the W510 which is similar. I have been able to transfer ringtones/wallpaper using bluetooth and transferring them to the micro sd card. Actually been creating custom mp3 ringtones and putting them on a 1gb card. I imagine I could probably put close to 200 mp3 ringtone clips on a 1gb card.

The only things that I really want to mod are the audio_cfg file and uploading the ringlights mod. But I've tried all of the p2k tools software and when I hook up the W490, those apps crash. It sees my other phones fine such as the V330 and the L6.

Assuming you already tried Motorola phone tools with a live update? Clearly not going to be helpful in modding - but at least to transfer a bit faster than bluetooth.

I just ordered the phone from T-Mobile and should be getting it early next week. I'll be sure to start playing around with connection methods then.

Does anyone know the if there is an SD Card max size that the phone will work with? I know my friend's similar Mot can only handle 2 gigs. Anyone?

The max size for the W490 is 2GB. I cannot get the Motorola Phone tools to work with Vista. Loaded software and update crashes. Works fine with Xp.

You may want to ask about vista compatibility on the phone tools forum. From browsing through it, it seems like there IS an upgraded patched version that supports Vista.

If you get an answer, please post back here so that HF users can use this posting as a reference.

Good Luck

Motorola Phone Tools works with Vista without any problems. I'm using version 4.5.1C with my Motorola V3xx on my laptop that's running Vista Premium and it works very well.
