Unbranded/Unlocked SE w910i

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have only had this phone for a day but I will go ahead and write a quick review on it as I have been playing with it non-stop for about 8 hours now.

Per my previous reviews I will break it down into the following categories.
1. Build Quality
2. RF Performance
3. Call Quality
4. Sound Quality
5. OS
6. Displays
7. Camera

Build Quality
========
Build quality and material are top notch. The difference between the slide mechanism of this phone verus the w580i is night and day. There is no wobble between the two halves and the pieces actually LOOK like they were meant to be part of the same phone.
It feels wonderful in the hand.
They keypad is a VERY MARKED improvement over the problematic keypad of the s500/w580 series phones.

RF Performance
==========
Phone has excellent reception. This is NOT a North American spec. 3G phone. I can report that it does however have EDGE and it is quite fast for an EDGE connection.

Call Quality
=======
Very good call quality. Callers on the other end come thru nice and clear. Speakerphone works nice as well. No problem to report there. I made a few calls to friends and family and they say I sound fine.
The earpiece could stand to be just a TAD bit louder--it's not as loud as on my Moto phones.

Sound Quality
======
Since this is a walkman phone, sound quality should be a given.. this one, at least for me, doesn't disappoint.
While some included music/ringtons can sound tinny on highest volume, all of my .mp3's sound very clear and the bass comes thru very nice.

Operating System
============
I have always been a fan on SE's User Interface and this phone is no exception. Included are 5 different themes. They either contain the standard 3x4 layout or there are 2 "scroll" type themes to choose from.
The Menu system and structure is well thought out and even those new to SE should have no problem finding their way around this phone.

-----Extras:

1. Motion Sensor: Wonderful! When watching video you can switch from portrait to landscape simply by reorienting the phone.
Also, in one of the included games you can use the motion sensor to actually control the marble by turning and flipping the phone to drive the marble where you want it to go. Very neat!!

Display
======
The phone has a 2.44" QVGA (240x320) screen, displaying 262,555 colors. It is one of the best screens I have ever seen on a phone this size. It could stand to be just a TAD brighter, but it in no way distracts from the beauty it offers.
Pictures, wallpapers and animated wallpapers all look incredibly smooth despite the screen not having the 16.7 million colors of some other supposedly higher end phones.

Camera
======
The w910i has a 2.0 Megapixel camera with no flash. For a basic camera phone it is pretty good. Nothing to write home about. Does take better pictures than the N75, however.

Overall I give this phone an 9.5 out of 10.

PICTURES TO FOLLOW SOMETIME LATER IN THE DAY--ONCE I GET A CHANCE TO TAKE SOME.

I agree, very good mini review
However I find the screen to be bright enough.

One thing I should add, battery life is GREAT!
I'm on my third day and have about 40-45% left still

Nice quickee, the Motion Sensor feature sounds interesting and useful. No flash? Hmm, I wonder why? Maybe cause it's no a K series. Any theme you like more than the others?

I downloaded the free "Blues" Theme from SE and am using it with my own animated wallpaper. I think I like it the best.

Thats exactly why it doesnt have flash
Theyre only using the extra cam features for their cybershot line

Sexy looking phone.

I know sony has some of the best java support of any phones, so running opera would be no issue, but what about the built in browser?

Can you multitask with java?

Thanks.

Yes you can multitask.

I think another thing to mention:
Screen is very readable under direct sunlight

It doesnt fade out at all unlike samsungs

I know SE used to be pretty bad with this.

However Nokia still remains to be the best

Can you pls post the original w910 themes somewhere? I would like to try them on my k850i. Watching the youtube videos, there was a really cool looking theme where it looked like a solar elipse. Since k850i has the motion sensor and flash themes, i would be interested to see if it would work.

Would you say this is better than the w850i?

I loved that phone. It's this or the k850i but now it seems the k850i is terrible

Posted by: break-r

I'd say its better than the w850 due to the better quality plastics, quadband, and huge screen.

However some would argue that its not a good phone at all just due to the tinny sounding phone speaker (for music)

had mine a day and have been having big problems making and receiving calls. It will take around 10 attempts to connect a call. Put the sim back in my w810i and no problem.
