If a non-3G (Edge only) connection is opened, and connected, but not actually transferring data back and forth, then it does not impact battery life by any noticeable amount. A 3G idle connection does use some battery though. However, if your connection keeps opening, even after you close it, then likely it is being used. 3. If you are only getting 12 hours of battery life and you have truly limited your phone to only use Edge/GPRS/GSM (i.e. no 3G), then something is wrong. Something is happening like an active data connection. When I throttle mine to only use Edge or lower, then I get way more than 12 hours. I get up to 36 hours and I use my phone quite a bit. On 3G, yes I might only get up to 24 hours at most. But 12 hours is low no matter what. I'd say you have something running in the background that is using a data connection, You might need to run something like MemMaid to find out what's actively running on your phone in the background. MemMaid is a great utility anyways for other purposes too, so I recommend investing in it regardless. I use it. It even has a nice "quick clean" which I mapped to a HW button on the phone so, every now and then, I hit the button and it reclaims any "loose" memory, usually even up to a 1 MB or more...It keeps the memory "clean". |
