krzr k1 MPT thread at BVRPUSA concern???

I am new to the MPT and was told at the Rogers store where I upgraded from my V551 to this new model that all I needed to buy was a cable and cd and install and the fone features of pic, video, d/l ringtones would function.

I am conservative so I just did some googling and read through some posts at this Forum (before I buy) and see that it appears to be not that easy. I see some users have a difficult time finding the correct version to work, some fones are not recognized, some features in multi-media do not work.

I am a Noob to setting up these features and thought that I would post in the BVRPUSA Forum as I am frustrated by the fact that I can buy 2 External burners and install their software on my 2 notebooks and "plug and play" and no updates required etc.
One pays enough for the fones and to the Rogers provider so why do I have to make the install of the software a "make work project" trying to see if I am competent as a Noob to get the correct version and the features that I want to work???
I have xp sp2, modem is agere, driver provider agere, driver date 3/4/2005, and version 2.1.5.1

Anyway this was my first post to BVRPUSA and I got a warning about posting Spam, of which I am not sure what it was?
Thus I sent back a reply regarding this?

The only other item I mentioned is that a friend bought a krzr km and got the software and cable with the fone ???

I simply want to know when I by the software and cable that I am not going to have to take time during my work day to figure it all out.
I would appreciate your comments as my intention is not to create problems buy any of my threads.

If you set up the software an phone correctly, it should take you a half hour max. Most people on here that have problems are doing something wrong, not reading the full directions, etc. If you get MPT, you will want to install it, and DONT plug your phone in yet. Once MPT gets installed, restart your computer, and open it. You can create a new profile, and it will walk you through connecting your phone. Basically, when MPT says connect your phone, connect it. If it says don't connect it, don't connect it. Remember, DONT connect your phone until MPT tells you too.

In a nutshell, this is "Basic USB 101" - don't just go plugging stuff, be it a camera, scanner/printer/fax or even your phone into the USB until you read the full instructions and follow them and the onscreen prompts. I had a webcam that wanted me to install the software, reboot and then plug in the webcam only AFTER it told me to. Anything else would result in an inoperative webcam.

A lot of people also get into trouble because they start screwing around with the MotoDev drivers first. They never read the part about MPT overwriting those drivers and having to reinstall the MotoDev drivers after installing MPT.

I am not sure what the MotoDev Drivers are ? And do I mess them up with the install of the Tool kit for the Krzr K1?

No I understand what you mean, I never do installs of anything connected to my notebooks without reading the instructions fully. Usually, depending on the length of the instructions I d/l them and then I pring them out and keep it in a journal that I keep specifically for that device.
I thought that I should post this query as I still have not installed the software as I am still waiting on a post in here re the polyphonic ringtones site that is best and won't cause me any issues.

( I should say that I followed this same d/l of my Palm TX organizer awhile back and had no issues with a Hot Sync as some people do, reading instructions and understanding them before you get so excited about the device and just start adding it are of Extreme Importance !!! )

Well I will post again as I have had little success in getting any replies whatsoever re d/l site for polyphonic fone ringtones.
What I seem to be reading throughout the Forums are members who can't seem to get ringtones to d/l to their "krzr k1 ".

I do understand that you have to d/l from a trustworthy site, lest there be issues with your fone afterwards. One of the main reasons that I bought this Moto add on was to change my ringtone.
As mentioned earlier I do read instructions and follow anything on my notebook screen before hooking anything up, be it my 4 printers, 3 burners modem, router etc. etc.
No problems.

Now I seem to have software to d/l pics, vids and won't work for ringtones for this unit....or at least no member replies when I have asked for a trustworthy polyphonic site where I can get ringtones of the Baby Boomer era and not "Rap" etc. that are enjoyed by the younger boomers.

Anyway, I hope to hear from some obliging member as I have had my original thread re polyphonic ringtones in for some time. And no we are not into MP3 downloads and are not into creating 20 - 30 second ringtones of our own.
I asked about a particular site where I have found polyphonic ringtones to my liking and got no feedback.

It seems from the threads that I have read either the user can't get the ringtone to work after it is d/l even though it is listed as an option within the fone itself or there is an issue with the actual d/l.

I sincerely would appreciate comments on this matter so I can rid of these morbid tones that sit on this fone, if they were like the v551 which I have disconnected I would not mind the ringtones. However the sound of either the morbid ones or the new beat ??? ones is not my cup of tea; hence the better half and I would like to make a change.

So I gather there is no ability to go to a site and d/l polyphonic ringtones that is considered a quality site nor does the "fone" have the ability other than to d/l mp3 tones ???
We as said before do not use an mp3 nor have anyone in the household that does.
