Hey, I'm planning on getting an unlocked iPhone, but with the UK launch in just 2 weeks I'm wondering whether I should wait and get a UK one rather than a US one? Might there be any differences that would make it worthwhile waiting? Also, what are the chances that they'll be releasing an update at the same time as the launch? Thanks!

The UK one will be locked too. So it shouldnt matter much.

I would think obtaining an iphone in the US is a lot easier than obtaining one in the UK, especially when their cost of living is a lot higher due to their currency.

I don't think they will have any software updates anytime soon after the launch unless there is a critical bug.

The way I see it, if you want an iphone badly enough (depending on where you live), you might want to get one with 1.1.1 now that there are confirmed working unlocks for it, rather than waiting for the devs team to figure out a new way to hack any further updates (which seem to only become increasingly harder)

It's easy enough getting an iPhone in the UK through a fairly obvious route, there's alot being imported from the US atm. If there's no software updates anytime soon then I may go ahead and buy one this week!

Ok, another question, what would happen to the warrenty if I got it from the US? I presume the warrenty is void just by unlocking it, but it might be possibe to put the firmware back to the original, but then they'd still know it's unlocked because the reciept would be american (and it'd be repaired in the UK)?

Also, how easy is it to get an iPhone without contract in the US? Will it be just as easy to get one without a contract in the UK, would save me ~£80 by doing that and unlocking it myself!

it's really easy to buy an iphone in the US without a contract, i just went there a couple days ago and bought one for myself
