(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just bought this thing and i must say I do not like it.

Nothing is intuitive on this phone I should have just gotten an iphone like I thought.

Does anyone know how to setup the damn email it doesnt work and the customer service absolutely sucks.

Can I set this phone to vibrate also? what about vibrate first and then ring 2nd?

And how can i set all of my text messages to something different?

Thanks

I have no problem what so ever with any of your issues...EXCEPT the many sub menus takes some getting used to...Mines very intuitive once you master the trackball...

Maybe you should have gotten one of those kids' phones with three buttons.

It kills me: people buy a powerful device and expect to be able to use it without even cracking the manual. RTFM!

Assuming you have a blackberry data plan, you need to go to the "blackberry setup" folder (its a picture of a folder with a blackberry in it) then click on "personal email setup". It will load a web page where you will need to create a new, unique, user name and password. After that you will type in your main email address and the user name/pass you use to get into the account. If all goes well you will get to a screen that says "congratulations". In about 20 minutes you will start receiving emails.

Can I set this phone to vibrate also? what about vibrate first and then ring 2nd?

To set or change profiles you need to click on the profiles icon (its a picture of a phone), scroll all the way down to "advance" and highlight the profile you want and press the menu button (the button left to the scroll wheel) and select edit. Choose "phone" and change the settings you want and save them. The phone automatically vibrates and then rings.

And how can i set all of my text messages to something different?

I don't understand your question. Are you referring to how you are notified when you receive a text? If so, just go to the same place as above and select "sms text" to edit it.

Thanks

If you think the blackberry is hard to use then it will be hard to use

The one thing that really helped me to learn how to use bb's was to read the help system (the question mark icon on the home screen).

Read up at BlackberryFAQ.com and BlackberryForums.com. Learn the keyboard shortcuts.

You'll only get as much out of any device as what you're willing to put into it. The BB interface is very efficient and quite easy to pick up.

After a myriad of smartphones...and a brief romantic relationship with the iPhone...I am poised and ready to return to BlackBerry because of it's reliability and simplicity.

Complicated to use?? Perhaps it does take some getting used to the depth of the menus and and to learn to master the trackball...but it is really one of the most simple to use of the smartphones...or at least it was/is for me.

You want to talk compicated...try learning the Windows Mobile 6 OS. Now, that's complicated!!

Agreed. I use a WM6 device right now, but I don't mind messing around with stuff to make it work at times (within reason). One of the reasons I like my current phone, the Treo 750, is some of the small usability improvements to WM6 that make it a little quicker to get to commonly used features and what not.

I was recently asked for a recommendation for an individual who was not interested in anything but a smart device that would be reliable and not difficult to use. I strongly recommended a Blackberry, and he is quite happy with his 8800.

If blackberry is confusing to you, then I'm not sure how you made it to Howardforums to make your own thread.

ROFL.... Priceless! I kinda feel the same way about all the people who want step-by-step instructions for using a WiFi model without the data plan. Can it be done? Maybe. But it was never intended to be used that way. So you need some level technical expertise just to start the conversation.

It's pretty much arrogant statements like that, that chase people away from more technical devices and make them run back to their Razr's or other simpler phones...

I guess I'm one of those who have learned the very little I know just by experience and getting information from these boards all these years. I do not consider myself a techie at all...in fact, quite the opposite. I have a need for some of the features that smartphones have...but I get totally overwhelmed by something as feature-packed as the N95 or something similar. The BlackBerry is great for me, because I can "do it", or for the most part anyway, without having to feel like an idiot. But, I still lean on the expertise of members on this forum, and others, to help me when I hit a brick wall and just can't figure out something to save my life. And...I have learned those things from members who were not afraid to come down from their lofty places of knowledge and help me when I asked a question of two that might sound totally ignorant and like a waste of their time...

Perhaps we need to be a little more patient and helpful around here...since this forum was, and still is supposed to be a place where knowledge is shared. None of us came to know what we know now...no matter how much or little that is...overnight. We were all n00bs once...and all got frustrated a time or two with things we didn't understand.

I definitely understand, however my point was, if you're able to learn how to use a forum, or computer at that Blackberry is easy. I mean taking time to learn the BB is one thing, but being FRUSTRATED is another.

The BB system is made to be simple. Roll until you see the option you're looking for, then press on it.

If you're stuck, press the blackberry logo next to the ball, and a lot of the time that will give you what you need.

I had a Curve and went to an iPhone after the price drop. After 2 weeks with the iPhone my sim is now back in my Curve.

this is my first bb and granted it is a little tricky to learn at first but 2 days latter i have it all down to a fine art. I prefer the BB to a Treo (Because windows sucks on cellphones and is REALLY hard to use sorry had to say it) just play around with it for the next few days and i am sure you will get the hang of it.

Has anyone tried to check your pin number on your blackberry when you are drunk??! Now that is hard as hell
