iPhone or....

I currently have a crappy old Samsung P207 on Cingular/ATT and I am up for an upgrade at the end of November finally.

I am really intrigued by the iPhone and want to upgrade to some sort of smart phone device that integrates internet features etc. I also was looking at the Blackberry 8310 which looks very nice too. Are there other smart phones that you would suggest with ATT? Which of these two would you suggest?

Also I am a little confused on the plans. I currently have a basic family plan with one additional line and a 1000 txt message plan for 10 extra a month. If I get an iPhone I think it would be an additional 30 a month for 1500 texts + unlimited data right? Compared to 45 for the same thing for the BlackBerry?

Also, there is no online upgrade deal for the iPhone so it would make no difference if I purchased it before my upgrade time correct?

Thanks!

You can check several of the iPhone vs... threads that are all over this board, but if you want a quick answer, the best two that I would narrow it down to are the HTC Tilt from AT&T or the Nokia N95-3. Both have far superior cameras to the iPhone and they both support NA 3G, so browsing will be much faster. They're also true smartphones rather than glorified media players like the iPhone, so you'll have more customization options right out of the box. Other goodies like GPS, video recording, and MMS are also included with either one you choose over the iPhone.

Check the AT&T forum for pricing on what plan you would need. Since the iPhone has no subsidy, there's no reason to extend your contract to get one. If you get yourself set on buying one, grab a phone from AT&T with a subsidy, sell it, and then buy the iPhone from wherever you'd like.
