WM6 treo upgrade (also now covers WM6.1)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: guandalf

I read on the AT&T forums that the wm6 upgrade will be released more than likely on 10/30. Does anyone here have any 411 regarding that?

Posted by: ROLLTIDE

I already have it installed and it works great

I think he meant the official wm6 upgrade, not the one floating around on XDA. On that note, I have been running it as well and it's pretty nice. I would like to see the official one out soon though.

What the posters in this thread are referring to in not so many words is that Palm has released the official WM6 upgrade for the unbranded Treo 750 (IE not branded by ATT/Cingular or Rodgers).

For those of you who might try to install this on their ATT-branded device, let me offer these bits of sage advice:

1) Yes, it does work. Perfectly. And it is a not insignificant improvement over the leaked ATT beta.

2) The installer won't install on a branded device. You're going to have to flash using the same method as installing the WM6 beta (Copying CHEEIMG.nbf to a FAT32-formatted SD card and rebooting while holding in the reset button and the PTT button).

3) To get the CHEEIMG.nbf file out of the update, run the installer until it refuses to install (then don't click anything) and search your computer for CHEEIMG.nbf. Right-click on it and select Open Containing Folder.

4) Get the file out of that folder named CHEEIMG_something.nbf. It's the one thats 83,000kb. The other file CHEEIMG.nbf is like 3,000kb.

The ROM runs great, doesn't have any applications that screw up the home screen (something in the beta was putting in a horizontal scroll bar randomly). MSVC is a new version which fixes a few small bugs with BT, and most of the Palm-developed programs are more responsive, especially the threaded SMS app.

The only negative I've been able to come up with is that PTTfix doesn't work with this ROM, although it didn't work 100% with the ATT beta either. Also, it appears that the SIM access profile is disabled. It was working fine in the ATT beta. If I come up with a proceedure to re-enable it that doesn't involve JetWare Mobile, I'll reply to this thread.

Posted by: guandalf

yes I meant the offical AT&T. really hope it comes out on 10/30 as reported by the guy in the AT&T forums. Apparently he had it confirmed with a top AT&T exec.

They've been saying that since March.

Word was update by end of year. Have you seen anything from AT&T that said anything different?

Posted by: Cloudscout

A quick question for someone who has tinkered with WM6 on the Treo 750, will it send the name of the caller to a bluetooth headset that supports caller ID display? I know that some of the Samsung Windows Mobile devices will send the name as well as the number if you have the caller's name in your phonebook but the Treo only sends the number. I was hoping that WM6 will add that functionality.

Posted by: swapmeet

I gave up waiting and downloaded the official unbranded Palm Treo WM6 ROM. Using bootloader method. Watching it update as we speak.... More later.

Yes.. please let us know if this update is worth it. Because I am also tired of waiting for the "official" update...

Posted by: swapmeet

Well, the update went smoothly. No problems. You just have to use WinRar or Winzip to extract one of the files and bootload it on to the phone. Speed is immediately noticeable. Other than that, there seems to be a little less memory used from the startup programs. The "ribbon" feature of the calendar is nice. I still can't dial through a phone number on something in my task list like I could on my old T-Mobile SDA, though. Kinda sucks. Still playing around with it, but the speed and promised stability make it worthwhile.

yes! in the AT&T forums there was a guy that managed to speak to someone from AT&T corporate office who claimed the Treo upgrade was to be launched the same day as the 8525

Do you by chance have a link to the instructions you followed? I've given up waiting and am ready to make the plunge.

Posted by: swapmeet

The instructions are in this thread. Scroll up and you'll find the instructions from Terry Matthews that I used. The only tricky part is knowing how to extract the CHEEIMG.nbf files from the installation package.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Updating now. Took me a moment to get going 'cause I didn't realize I had to rename CHEEIMG_something.nbh to CHEEIMG.nbh.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Just finished the update, very nice. Icons in WM6 are nice.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Think I might go back to WM5. The status light wont stop blinking amber even when I have an excellent signal and that gets a bit annoying.

Posted by: DoubleSh0t

See this thread over on Treonauts: http://forum.treonauts.com/palm-sma...e-official.html

Apparently, we'll be getting the update November 6th or 7th.

Posted by: guandalf

Finally a source that seems reliable. will keep my fingers crossed!

Wirelessly posted (Palm Treo 750: Palm750/v0000 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

Looking forward to it.

Posted by: Cloudscout

Yeah, I think I'm just going to go ahead with the generic ROM for now. I'm tired of waiting.

Posted by: digitalslurp

I ended up going back to WM5. In the generic version WM6 has the LED flash whenever you have a signal. Annoying seeing it flash in the corner of my desk.

Posted by: Cloudscout

I can't seem to get the upgrade to work anyway... I put the CHEEIMG.nbh file in the root directory of the SD card and I hold down the PTT button an the reset pin but then it just displays a screen with the SPL info and it says "Serial" at the bottom of the screen. It never starts the upgrade process. Any ideas?

Posted by: digitalslurp

You need the CHEEIMG_something.nbh file. Its 83,000KB or similar. Find that file, stick it on the SD card and rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh and you should be good to go. I had trouble with that part at first too. Easy way to find the file is rather then run the setup then search your computer, just open the .exe file with winrar. You can pull the proper file directly out that way and you can get a demo of winrar.

Posted by: Cloudscout

I reformatted the SD card again and the install worked this time. Everything seems to work well. I'm not seeing the flashing LED problem you described, though.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Weird. Glad its working out OK for you. The flash problem didn't show up at first, but even a hard reset wouldn't fix it.

Posted by: Cloudscout

Actually, I am noticing one problem... when I set it to disable the touchscreen while I'm on a call, the message that says "touchscreen disabled" covers up the new speakerphone and mute buttons.

Posted by: jbstix

Same problem exists in the leaked ATT version I've been using for the last 3-4 months...

It's a bug/problem in my opinion, but who knows if it will ever be corrected...since the touchscreen is disabled anyway you can't touch the buttons anyway, you have to just use the 4 way Navigation buttons and select.

It bothers me too, but it's better than hitting all kinds of buttons on the screen with my cheek like I was before .

Posted by: Cloudscout

Day 2 and it's still working well.

Sadly, one feature I was hoping it would enable is the ability to send a caller's name (from your address book, obviously) along with their number to a bluetooth headset that supports it. No such luck.

I was also hoping that I could connect to a Bluetooth PAN for Internet access. You can connect other devices to the phone for Internet access over the 3G connection but I can't seem to figure out a way to go online from the phone over another PAN connection instead of using the 3G network. For me, this would have solved any issues relating to the lack of WiFi.

Posted by: ottoa2000

i followed your instructions and wm6 works great. one question. i am an att/cingular customer, every thing seems to work great until i use express mail to get my mail, i get a message that sais i am roaming and long distance rates may apply. i know that i am not in a roaming area. are there att specific settings i need to enter ?

thanks

Posted by: Cloudscout

Day 3. No regrets. Still not experiencing that flashing LED issue that apok ran into. I'm noticing that a lot of people seem to be choosing this week as their I-give-up-on-AT&T week. A number of Treo 750 and Blackjack owners, tired of the unexplained delays, are just giving in and installing unofficial WM6 upgrades.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Hmm, maybe I'll give it another try. Would be nice not to have all the extra crap AT&T adds to the roms.

Posted by: ProvidenceLeaf

I've tried to do this by trying to piece together the instructions throughout this thread with no success. Can someone please go through in order STEP BY STEP as to what needs to be done in order to get this update in my 750?

I am not as tech inclined as most of you on here. Thank you ahead of time.

Posted by: digitalslurp

1. Format the SD card so its FAT32
2. Download the WM6 update from here.
3. Use winrar to open the .exe file
4. Extract the CHEEIMG_something.nbh file its 83,000KB or similar.
5. Copy the file to your SD card.
6. Rename the file CHEEIMG.nbh.
7. Hold the PTT button down at the same time you hit the reset button with the stylus.
8. Menu will come up and tell you to his the return/end key. Do that and it'll install WM6 on your treo.

Posted by: guandalf

Well... a new word regarding the WM6 update release. The link below says November 16th. Dont know how reliable it is but will keep my fingers crossed, especially when Palm and AT&T are now selling Treo 750's to business users with WM6 installed if you purchase more than 10 units.

http://blog.treonauts.com/2007/11/treo-750-update.html

Posted by: digitalslurp

I might give the unbranded version another try, see if maybe I messed with some settings to cause the LED annoyance. I can't think of anything AT&T would add that would be worth the wait. The internet settings I can add myself just fine.

Posted by: radi0chik

I'm having a hell of a time loading mine up. I've tried two different cards, formatted FAT and FAT32 respectively. I've got the 83 meg file on both of them, but when I go to reset the phone (ptt+reset) if I push them both momentarily, the phone comes back up in normal mode. If I hold them both down, I see a grey screen that says "loading" then at the top it says 00068002 - then it goes straight to a color bar screen with PALM TR and some kind of version numbers - also says "serial" at the bottom unless I have the usb cable plugged in, then it says "USB" What am I doing wrong?

Posted by: digitalslurp

Sounds like you dont have the proper file. What you described happens if you use the original CHEEIMG.nbh in the exe. You need the CHEEIMG_something.nbh file and after its on your card rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh.

If you follow the directions here properly then there's no reason it wouldn't work. Myself and many others have done it that way with success.

Posted by: radi0chik

im using the one you had listed that I used winrar to extract from the exe file. its approx 82 meg. And I renamed it like you said

I agree... but who is more to blame? The ROM has been out for every version except AT&T, and AT&T is notorious for delaying the release of phones due to "software issues" (read, trying to get their branding to work properly). Either way, I'm tired of waiting on AT&T/Palm to get their act together, and I've just considered dumping my Treo. But, really, what else is out there besides the Tilt?

Posted by: guandalf

Moderator... Is there a chance to make this thread sticky since the Treo WM6 upgrade is an issue with so many users. thanks!

Posted by: radi0chik

Well I finally got it. It seems as that file is hosted several different places, I kept on downloading from each site I could find, and I finally found one that worked. If anyone else is having problems I'll be happy to zip/upload the one I got to work to see if it works for you too. Thanks for the help guys!

Posted by: guandalf

Just read on the AT&T forum that the next rumored date for the WM6 upgrade is November 15th but I would take it with a pinch of salt...

Posted by: ipugh

Hopefully it's the 15th.. They're rolling out 3G in Oklahoma City at the same time, so it would be a nice double upgrade.. haha

Posted by: steph280

It's the 15th and I am not holding my breath. By the time it comes out I think we'd be downloading a leaked version of WM7 already, if Palm is still in business.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Maybe next week. Glad I didn't bother waiting to install WM6.

Posted by: Cardiff Giant

I applied the unbranded update to my treo (mostly because I was sick of the delay between the phone ringing and answering in WM5) and all seems to be ok with the exception of it taking a REALLY long time to stop searching for a signal after taking it out of Flight mode (phone off). Soft reset instantly finds signal and what's weird is the E for edge shows up nearly immediately coming out of flight mode (I can even make calls) but the bars are still searching. After a few minutes, it stops and works normally. Not really a show stopper but a bit strange. Think that whenever the AT&T update is released I'll just put that on to be safe. I have the WM5 rom too incase I need to roll back but I have no idea what could be causing this.

Posted by: albertj03

I installed WM6 and I noticed that I have the E for Edge now displayed on the screen. Before I installed WM6 it said G. Have I downgraded to Edge because of the generic install?

Posted by: DoubleSh0t

G stood for GPRS, but it really meant EDGE. You're still running on EDGE, no downgrade.

Posted by: digitalslurp

And going from G (GPRS) to E (Edge) would be an upgrade, not a downgrade.

Posted by: guandalf

Just wondering where are all the insides we used to have on the site that knew release dates so accurately???

Posted by: digitalslurp

Don't know.

Posted by: PHL

Bumping up...WHERE IS THE AT&T OFFICIAL WM6 RELEASE?!

Posted by: wookiee2cu

Either Palm has discovered a problem with it or AT&T has and they are still working out the bugs. They will release it when they are good and ready, there is really no reason to ask where it is. This has been an on going issue since the summer time. Believe me, when it is releasted there will be new threads all over the front page of the forum and you will know that it's availabe. So, either load the leaked rom or just relax and be patient.

Posted by: digitalslurp

If they found any bugs, its because of AT&T's crap that they want installed. The unbranded WM6 ROM has been out for awhile now, and there haven't been any bugs.

--not true--
When using my BT headset, emails, txt messages, and incoming call information that is supposed to be announced OVER THE HEADSET are instead announced OVER THE LOUDSPEAKER of the device.

there are a few other quirks, as well...but I can't remember off hand.

Posted by: rizzo011

...and yes, my settings for voice command are set to "Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only"

still comes out over the loudspeaker.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Sorry I meant no bugs that I've found, should have worded it differently.

I've noticed I have issues with my Jawbone bluetooth headset trying to pair to the treo now. I almost always have to reboot the phone then try finding the headset, finding the options (hands free) and selecting it. Even then it only works 50% of the time. Anyone else have this issue?

Posted by: digitalslurp

I had the same issues, also had problems with my Jawbone connecting to a Razr V3 so I decided to send my Jawbone back. My Moto HS850 works just fine with the WM6 ROM.

I truly believe there are no bugs and that the decision not to release it is purely a business one.

I'm not sure if they will be posting it at midnight or later on in the day...but unless they discovered something big in the last 24 hours, it's going live tomorrow.

I'm gettin the same info although i have yet to receive a text message on my phone...

You should receive a text message on your 750 if thats listed as your phone in AT&T's systems. Remember this is a brand new ROM and will erase all data on your current phone.

I finished updating mine. Was not even asked for a serial number. 15 mins and I was up and running and loving it. The only bug I noticed is that under the phone settings in network it still shows ATT with underscore. on the home screen though I now see AT&T

Posted by: ROLLTIDE

I am still showing cingular so I guess that my update didn't work

Posted by: guandalf

does anyone have AT&T instead cingular or ATT with underscore in the network phone settings?

Posted by: fmtek

I am also getting the error that the Serial # is invalid..

could this have to do that the Treo is not my current phone?

Posted by: CeluGeek

My serial number is invalid according to Palm. This is just as good as if they have not posted the update.

Here's the direct link. Allows you to bypass the serial number check page.

For those that are cautious about the link I posted, that's the actual download link that Palm gives you after entering the serial number. I didn't upload it. R3h.net is one of the domains Akamai uses. They provide services for a lot of big corporations like Palm, Apple, Audi, and IBM.

Posted by: ROLLTIDE

works great !! Thanks

Posted by: digitalslurp

No problem. I went ahead and installed the AT&T ROM and so far haven't had any problems. Seems a bit faster than the unbranded ROM, but that may just be in my head. O_o

Posted by: guandalf

how disappointing that AT&T did not include windows mobile live messenger. does anyone know where to download it?

Posted by: CeluGeek

I got my serial number approved today late in the afternoon and I installed the update. Feeling brave enough I installed the update from a PC running Vista. It was successful.

I don't notice that much of a difference between this final upgrade and the leaked WM6 ROM. I'm still being annoyed by the Palm "enhancements" and irritated by the new bug of locking the keypad immediately taking you to the Today screen, something that did not happen in WM5. But now that my Treo has an official WM6 ROM, it is going up on sale pretty soon.

It would of been nice if the keyguard was optional, but I'll get used to pressing the center button to unlock it. Other than that I'm glad to see the minor additions like the "E" and the triangle icon on the unbranded version of WM 6.0.

Does installing the AT&T ROM re-lock the 750 if it's unlocked?
Not that it matters since I have an AT&T line, but I prefer to keep my devices unlocked.

No it doesn't. I unlocked my Cingular Treo 750 and I'm using it with SunCom. I still can use my SunCom SIM and manual network selection still works for me after the upgrade.

Keygard can be made optional. You can go to Start - Settings - Keylock and set the drop down list to Disabled. Once you do this, keylock will only work if you explicitly press FunctionKey+CallEnd.

Yeah mine does that too and I have the leaked rom. Never happened when it was wm5. I've read alot of people have same issue. Was hoping the official would fix that. I don't see any reason to upgrade to the official from the att leaked rom.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Yeah I'm thinking about going back to the official unbranded ROM that Palm released a couple weeks back. Haven't gained anything by installed the AT&T branded ROM.

Posted by: psycho-

The big thing for me (and I posted in Treo central) is the ability to switch on and off the at&t proxy. This is nice for when I need to travel or when I want to use the isp.cingular apn

Posted by: digitalslurp

Yeah, but you can do the same with the unbranded ROM, just use My ISP when you don't want the proxy, and create another connection to use that does have the proxy settings. I'm switching back to the unbranded rom now. Wasn't a complete waste trying out the AT&T ROM, I at least was able to get the phone software updated to 2.X instead of the buggy 1.13 that had audio issues.

Posted by: psycho-

That's the problem...even with the unbranded rom, the at&t proxy was hard-coded on the sim, and would load up and lock in on the phone any time you loaded an at&t sim. Even if I stuck in my China Mobile SIM card, or my Vodafone account SIM card, the phone would be locked on at&t's wap proxy.

The internet connection would work and activesync exchange would be all happy, but the browser would just stall if I tried another apn (in this case, isp.cingular). So, with my China Mo SIM and my Vodafone SIM, the browser would stall looking for the cingular proxy....blech!

There is a hack, but it doesn't allow you to change between wap.cingular (which requires the proxy) and other stuff (which requires the proxy off) so easily. This small app is just what I needed.

Remember, this is a problem unique to the Treo 750. In fact, the other HTC phones (I compare them because the Treo is also mfg'd by HTC) don't have this issue, and in fact have a separate Proxy setup that is in fact missing on the Treo. Stupid palm

Posted by: digitalslurp

Wow, didn't realize it was still included in the unbranded rom. That's stupid. I wonder if there's a way to strip the proxy program out of the AT&T rom so it can be used in the unbranded rom.

Posted by: psycho-

Yeah, I was thinking exactly the same thing...how do i get the little app? Remember, it's not the rom that's the problem...it's the at&t sim forces a proxy along with the wap settings....it just gets written on the phone the first time the card is stuck in the phone. I believe this is a sim feature. Most other mobile providers don't use this feature on their SIM cards, but at&t does on theirs...

Now, you can actually manually clear the proxy settings from the phone...but you gotta do a hard reset. Do I want to do a hard-reset every time I travel, and then reload all my apps? Not really..

The Cingular video is sorta fun too though..

Posted by: digitalslurp

What about this? Might be useful, but looks like you still have to run the registry edits for the proxy.

Posted by: markcobra

So does the unbranded rom have the speed dial issue? I find that to be the single most annoying thing on the treo and I dont like using the buttons on the screen it takes to much room.

I debranded my nokia n75 and its great. Mine as well do the same with my treo.

Whew..what a relief. Thank you WM4me and digitalslurp for the heads up.
I was growing a little annoyed at it.

Anyone else having problems with the downloaded file? Every time I download the zip file, it opens with WinRAR (evaluation copy), but if I try to open/extract/test the file I always get the same error about 40% through the file:
"C:\Documents and Settings\BobbyNew\Desktop\Treo750_2_25_ATT_EN_Desk topUpdater(2).zip: CRC failed in Results\\Treo750_2_25_ATT_EN_DesktopUpdater.exe. The file is corrupt!

I tried downloading with Explorer and Firefox just incase that makes any difference. Any other ideas?

Posted by: i0wnj00

No, the file I downloaded with FF and I.E 7.0 extracted without any issues on WinRAR 3.30. What happens if you do it again?

Same here. Speed dial works perfectly in the unbranded rom. Just finishing switching over to it.

Posted by: rjl2001

OK, well Palm gave me another serial number to use and this time the download worked correctly. That was about three hours ago and I finally have my phone updated. Everything that could go wrong with my computer/phone did lol, but all is good now.

Posted by: digitalslurp

That's weird 'cause you downloaded the same exact zip file after entering the serial number.

Posted by: i0wnj00

Even more weird is that I simply used the direct link without using any serials and my download was fine.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Same here.

Posted by: markcobra

So I put the unbranded rom on my treo and it takes forever to find a signal. I mean like minutes. Everythingelse is fine though. I think I might go back to the att rom.

Posted by: digitalslurp

Wirelessly posted (Palm Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Same thing would happen to me with WM5. I just soft reset after turning the radio on.

Posted by: markcobra

Yeah I noticed if I soft reset it, it finds the signal right of way. But I didnt want to have to do that all the time.

I actually went back to the leaked rom. Thats whats great about using the SD card method you can flash to any rom at anytime with no problem.

Posted by: markcobra

Palm has some funky instructions for the sd card method of the official rom, I guess to make it easy. It has some autorun files etc..so the update automatically runs once the card is inserted in the phone.

Does anyone know if you can just use the CHEEIMG.nbh file from the offical rom and run it just like the leaked and unbranded versions by putting it on the sd card and holding the side key reset button? I extracted the file, its 81.8MB.

I think by doing this you can keep swapping roms in case one doesnt work upto spec because it doesn't update the rom version on the phone. I upgraded to the att leaked version and then to the unbranded version and then back to att leaked one and my phone said TREO750-1.13-CNG each time even after hard resets which is fine because I know the roms were on there correctly.

Can I do the same with the official file? Just wondering if the other files are needed in the sd uploader download, 2577 folder and CHEEIMG.md5?

Well so far WM6 has been a total disaster for me. I installed it on two Treo 750's, one of which was a mere week old, and both have had serious stability issues. In fact the brand new 750 loses the ability to sync with ActiveSync and then locks up upon soft reboot. The only way to get it to function again is with a hard reboot. I never would have dreamed that WM5 would be a better option than WM6, but it appears to be the case. Is anyone else having similar problems?

Posted by: Calisoldier83

I'm debating to this phone or the tilt. Is there anyone that has used both of these phones ? The WM6 with the qwerty keyboard like the Q which really has me interested in this phone. But it seems all the lime light is towards the tilt, q9h, and the N75. No one has even recommended the Palm.

I used a Tilt for a couple ays before I sold it. found it annoying having to slide the keyboard out. I like where the keyboard is on the treo, makes typing one handed a lot easier.

Which WM6 rom did you use, AT&T or unbranded? I haven't had any stability issues with the unbranded rom, but found the AT&T rom to be a bit buggy. CV wouldn't work all the time, XM Radio would freeze up, and the most annoying was the speed dial not working. At first the AT&T rom seemed to be faster but after awhile it started getting funky and the start menu seemed to take a bit longer to show. In the end I reinstalled the unbranded rom from Palm and haven't had any problems at all.

Posted by: wookiee2cu

Calisoldier83, I have not had the tilt but I did have the 8125 which is pretty much the same phone just 2 generations old. Like digitalslurp said, the slide out keyboard is VERY annoying, tha'ts why I only had my 8125 for about 5 months. At first you won't think it's that bad but if you're a texter or do a lot of emails on your device, you will get tired of it quick. The bonus to the Tilt is the larger screen and WiFi but those are not enough for me to go back to a device with the slide out keyboard. The Treo is great for one handed use, the form factor is great, this is by far the best phone I have ever owned! As for the Q and the Blackjack II, these are smartphones not PPC's, so you do not have the touch screen and lose the copy and paste ability. Again, if you are a texter and email fanatic, I would not recommend either the Q or the BJ II.

I'm a big fan of the treo w/ WM6 too.

I've had a PPC-6700 on sprint (great phone), Motorola Q on Sprint, the SMT-5600 on attws, the 2125 on cingular, blackjack on cingular, and 8525 on at&t, so I've felt like i"ve run the full gamut.

With a candy-bar form factor, smaller size, and ability to run full touch screen apps, I find the 750 much more capable than the standard fare smartphone; but also much more managable than the slideout keyboard phones that HTC produces.

I still love the HTC phones, but I use the Treo for everyday use. If only the Moto Q9/BJ2/pantech duo folks knew what they're missing...hahaha

It was the AT&T rom. Sounds like all that delay didn't really help fix the problems with the update.

Posted by: markcobra

i have of course the treo 750, nokia n75 unlocked and debranded and a v3xx. i have trouble deciding what phone to use everyday and i tend to use the treo the most followed by the n75 a close 2nd. ive tested both phones closely and they are pretty much the same as far as music playing and camera quality. the real differences are hsdpa on treo and qwerty. i had a 8525 for a few days but didnt like cause of the slide out.

Try loading the unbranded ROM and see if that fixes the problems. You can find the link on page 1 of this thread. If you still want to use Cingular Video (CV) then you can find a .cab file over on the xda developers forum that installs everything you need for CV to work. There's also a .cab for XM Radio and other AT&T stuff that you might want.

I'd love to try, but the upgrade has now bricked my Treo. Oh well. I've put up with enough Windows Mobile problems. It's on to the Blackberry.

I havent come accross the "perfect" phone yet, but the Treo with WM6 i sby far the best one I have owned. Yes, there are a few things I wish were different, but I would not consider any other phone curenlty on the market and definitely not a Blackberry. I have a Dr.'s note saying Im ot allowed to go next to one!

I meant HTC designed phone....not HTC ODMed

Posted by: i0wnj00

My upgrade to WM 6.0 for my Treo 750 went fine, it's the upgrade to WM 6.0 for my 8125 that was a pain. I managed to brick it on the first try, but it went through on subsequent tries.

Posted by: digitalslurp

How's everyone doing with the AT&T ROM, any new bugs found?

Posted by: TruBlu01

This ROM is not as good as the Unofficial ATT ROM for me. I find myself soft resetting every few days. Battery drains faster, Email alerts not always working, Device will not automatically go into standby mode (I have to press the "power" button) all is a little annoying, but not enough for me to go back to the unofficial one.

Posted by: KCsooner

I just got the Treo 750 in mid December, because the Treo is the only phone my IT department will support via the Good software link to our MS-Outlook server. I had everything working great with WM5 and Good. My coporate Outlook interfaced perfectly. However while my Treo support staff were gone for the Holidays, I installed WM6 on my own. I tried to reinstall the Good link software using the password provided by my IT staff. When I click on the OTA set-up on the Treo, it get an error message telling me to contact my IT department because our network does not support my phone. I looked up the most recent Good 5.0 and it supports WM6. Until I can talk to our Treo specialists (who only are familiar with the Palm OS but willing to learn Windows Mobile), I suspect that our version of Good is older and designed to support WM5 but not WM6.

Any ideas?

I only used WM5 for a week or so, but it seemed to load web pages much faster than WM6 does. Has anybody experienced slower downloads?

Posted by: digitalslurp

I've never used Good, we use Activesync and an Exchange server, but its possible the software on the Outlook server hasn't been updated to support WM6.

I haven't experienced any slow downloads with WM6, but I'm also on a 3G network and use the unbranded WM6.

Will at&t ever sell their Treo 750's new with WM6?

I don't see why they wouldn't, but who knows.

I believe all Treos are shipped with WM5 and upgrades are down to the individual users. I know this is the case with BJI. no big deal anyway...

Posted by: psycho-

That is not true. I did an XBM earlier this week. All treos are now shipped with WM6

Posted by: KCsooner

Our corporate version of Good supports Windows Mobile just fine. When I upgrade to WM 6, it wiped out my Good Link software. I reinstalled Good and had to get a new pass key from our IT. Apparently Good pass keys can only be used once. I love my Treo 750 and the Good corporate Outlook interface. I recently bought a 4 GB mini SD memory expansion card and a bluetooth Jabra 8010 stereo/mono headset. Experimenting with the myriad of voice sync comands has been a blast. I would recommend the Treo 750 with the Windows Mobiel 6.0 and the Jabra 8010 to anyone. Ordering online plus using my AT*T 2-year contract upgrade, I was able to get everthing for less than $170 (Treo 750, Jabra 8010, and Kingston 4 GB Mini SD card). I have about 500 songs loaded plus Google PDA Maps loaded and still have about 2 GB of memory free. The Jabra sound quality is descent, but I wish their was a add-on equilizer program for Windiows Mobile Media player. The Jabra 8010 and the Treo 750's base reproduction is very limited. It would be nice to tweek the sound to balance it out better.

The only issues that I have had have been mild ones. I have had to pull my battery a couple of times when my Treo 750/WM6 locked up. So far I cannot interface the WM6 Voice Dialing Commands with my corporate Outlook contacts accessed via the Good software. However, I can use voice commands to call Outlook contacts on my Treo 750 that have been manually synced from my personal PC.

I have been using the "unofficial" version from the xda site for a couple of weeks now. It's great. Much "snappier" than WM6. Very stable. I highly recommend it.

Posted by: guandalf

Moderator, can we add to the subject line of this thread that it also now covers WM 6.1 upgrade or cut the last few messages and create a new one, as this will be the next major and highly anticipated upgrade to the Treo 750. Thanks.

Posted by: TruBlu01

Installed WM 6.1 from XDA today, runs great! One hiccup on mine is that when you wake the phone up the Keyguard message is displayed and goes back to sleep if you do not touch anything (as it should), however, if you do touch the screen when the keyguard is on, whatever you "touched" will open (inbox, messaging, etc) before it goes back to sleep. No big Deal!

Posted by: guandalf

based on what I read and the coming release of the 850 in the fall, it looks like there will not be an upgrade to 6.1 for the 750

The WM6 upgrade I applied was carrier-specific.
Palm or AT&T might still have it.
