ok so i ve been here lookin around like a maniac for almost 5 days now and still havent found sht about how to actually debrand the phone yourself without using wotan or any other paid service.

is wotan sponsoring this board of something?
i mean i had a razor before adn it tooke me a day to find everyhting and flash and reflash the phone.
why is this so hard to find?

frustrating...

can someone please help me and rest of the peopel here?
what files do i need to debrand?
where to download the files FREE
and whats the steps?

whats the difference in the 3 wotan servers for the w580i?
R6CA001 CID52
R6BC002 CID52
R6BA020 CID52

Do you just download the file to your computer, than just put it on your phone and let it go to work?

anyone have some sort of before and after video to show the difference in branded by like at&t and debranded by wotan?

A little OT, but I decided to just use Wotan and pay what I consider to be a convenience fee ($10 USD) yesterday. Had me up and going in about 5.5 minutes once I stumbled my way through the getting started guide.

The only modding I'd done before was on Motorola phones, just takes time, some reading, and the right tools to start learning another phone mfg

plus wotan is too easy... like fast food for fatkids

They are different versions, sort of like "Illustrator CS2" and "Illustrator CS3".

The R6CA001 is an Orange-branded version, so unless you want to brand your phone for Orange (UK), you probably should not use that version. The R6BC002 is the newest non-branded version on Wotan. AT&T phones now ship with R7.... something, which is newer. The latest generic (non-branded) version is R8BA024, released on October 10th.

Removing the branding from your phone is an easy way to change a lot of the features, but realistically, you can keep the same firmware that AT&T installs on your phone and remove the branding on nearly everything. There are only one or two features that you can only get by reflashing the main firmware, the rest can be done by changing configuration files and other files on the phone. It is just a lot more time involved than reflashing complete firmware on the phone, and actually requires learning. It's like SEEM editing and skin installation on a Motorola.

Where is this version R8BA024
because your saying all the other ones won't work for at&t

No one said the other ones won't work for at&t.

Oh so they all would work?
I thought "AT&T phones now ship with R7.... something, which is newer. The latest generic (non-branded) version is R8BA024, released on October 10th." mean that the R7 versions would not be able to be debranded by the other R6CA001 CID52, R6BC002 CID52, or R6BA020 CID52 because they all started with R6.
So out of those 3, to debrand this phone and get the results everyone else is getting and is happy with, which would I use?

No, it doesn't mean what you thought. If I have a computer that comes with Windows Vista, in general you can go ahead and install XP on it. Same with the phone. Only in a few cases is downgrading not allowed, for instance, the PS3 or the PSP (which incidentally are also Sony products).

I wrote not to use the O2 one if you want to debrand, because that is branding it with O2 firmware. Just use anything that is generic. In reality, you don't even need to flash firmware to debrand your phone and get the results that everyone else is getting (except flash-based menus), it's just an easier way to do it for those who don't have the time or motivation to investigate the other ways of doing it. There are features in the AT&T firmware that I actually like which are lost by reflashing the firmware, so I personally would debrand by customizing the configuration files on the phone.
