ASM Commission/Benefits Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know it's been asked a million times before, but I haven't really heard a clear answer.

How exactly does the commission system work for an ASM? I just got an offer today for an ASM position at a local store. Currently, I'm an RSR with vzw, and formerly was an RSC for cingular(if any of you remember me, heh). I'm very tempted to take this position, as I'm burnt out on sales after 5 years of doing it, but I'm a little bit worried about compensation. The offer for my salary was, to say the least, disappointing based on what ASM's at vzw get paid.

Anyway, to get to the point, the 2 deciding factors are going to be how the commission structure works, and how good the benefits are, namely health insurance. If anyone could give me some insight, whether it be in this thread or in a PM, I would be extremely appreciative.

Thanks!

well the commission structure will get changed again in march or april...just hoping it doesn't get any worse. i can tell you that in my store i'm the top rep and my commission check is about 11-1200/month and my asm makes on average about 1050/month. but our numbers are skewed because our gross add goal is pretty much impossible to reach...so if you're lucky enough to be in a store that can hit their marks you'll do better, but still not as much commission as the top rep in your store

ASM is a stepping stone, take the position only if you are looking to move up.

Ok let me recap so I make sure I understand, you currently work for Verizon, and you had one time worked for cingular and now want to come back and work for AT&T, I guess at this point I should tell you that since "Cingular was purchased by AT&T " things have changed significantly and it is a great place to work. I think it's a great idea to leave Verizon and go to work for AT&T.. best of luck Brain Cell dies

CellOne=Cingular=AT&T Mobility. Name has changed...employees still get screwed.

Unless you work for an Agent, that is...

The ASM position generally requires that YOU personally ensure that your store hits targets, eg. motivating your reps, naking sure all of thier needs are met, LEADING by Example not words, etc. The more your team respects you because you work hard to get sales as well, the higher your check. On the downside, however, the position is not bargained so benefits cost more and usually are not as good unless you want severed limbs each paycheck.

i dont know what it is for sure, but my ASM said something about if they dont hit a certain %of goal in a month, then he doesnt get any commision at all.

I agree ASM is generally a stepping stone but the problem with the commission structure is that if there are 4 reps in the store, and say their opps goal is 80, you'd think the store goal would be around 320 or so. In reality, the store goal is probably more like 450. So it is your job to convince the reps that they need to basically hit excellence tier every month (Which means you actually get your at risk). The same holds true for both accessory and feature goals.
