Flashing & Debranding with SETool 2 Lite

In this guide, I will layout the process of flashing your Sony Ericsson handset using SE Tool 2 Lite.

NEITHER I OR HOWARDFORUMS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE INCURRED TO YOUR DEVICE WHEN FOLLOWING THESE STEPS, I AM BASING THIS GUIDE ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

- Precautionary measures

Before doing anything please make sure you do the following:

Charge your phone to 90-100%
Back-up all your contacts to your SIM and Memory Stick
Remove your SIM Card and Memory Stick

- Files

Included in this guide are the following files:

SETool 2 Lite 1.08
Sony Ericsson W580i FS
Sony Ericsson W580i MAIN
Sony Ericsson CID52 ASIA Customisation

Download Files (31.94 MB)

Flash files for phones other than the W580i should be available at this website: http://topse.ru/files/ (You will need an account to download, use Google translator for English, downloads and sign-up will not work when using translator!)

- Instructions

1. Extract the RAR file you have just downloaded, inside you will find the following files:

+ setool2lite.rar
+ W580_CDA102568_7_R8A_GENERIC_C_ASIA.ZIP
+ W580_R8BA024_FS_C_ASIA_RED52.fbn
+ W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn

Extract "setool2lite.rar" and leave the rest as is.

2. Go into the directory in which you extract the file "setool2lite", and go into the "drivers" folder, there you will find another folder called "usb_flash_driver". Go into that and launch the installer that is contained in it, proceed as you read, nothing major will happen this is just a SE USB Flash driver for your phone.

Once the installation is done proceed to the next step

3. Go back to the directory in which you extracted "setool2lite" and launch the application "setool2lt.exe"

4. In the application, you will need to select your phone model at the top, in this case it would be the SE W580i.

5. Now in the box where it says "Files:" under the phone model you will need to add the following files:

+ W580_R8BA024_FS_C_ASIA_RED52.fbn
+ W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn

6. In the box where it says "Misc files:" you will need to add the following file:

+ W580_CDA102568_7_R8A_GENERIC_C_ASIA.ZIP

Now your screen should look like this:

7. Once you have added the files into their appropriate positions you will need to attach your phone to your computer, by holding onto the "C" on your phone and then plugging in the USB cable.

8. As a precautionary measure, make sure all the files are in their right placements and that your phone is detected as a "SEMC Flash Device" or something along those lines.

9. Now you are ready to click "FLASH", DO NOT CLICK ANY OTHER BUTTONS BEFORE OR AFTER THIS PROCESS!

This process should take about 5 minutes and you will be readily happy with this de-branded version of your phone!

No, you'll be fine.

This file includes a few extra languages that you may not use but it has English.

If you read clearly, you need to HOLD "C" on your PHONE and plug in the USB, then click FLASH.

i donno man i tried holding C and connecting the phone and then pressing flash it sat there for 15 minutes and didnt identify the phone.
when you press FLASH note the message in the program telling you to hold c and connect the phone within 30 seconds. thats what i did and it worked so whoever has problem try both.

I have never done this before and am totally new to de-branding. The files required confuse me a little. What is the difference between the FS and the Generic files? Which files should I get for a w200a in canada? I just bought this phone and have no interest in screwing it up. Any help would be appreciated.

ok i just got my memory stick yesterday and tried to upload some files on it using phoneexplorer but it says something like "operation is understood but cant be done"

i followed all of those steps and i got stuck at the point where the computer is supposed to recognize the phone as SEMC flash device... the computer recognizes it as "SE device 616 USB ethernet emulation"... can someone please help me out?

I had some trouble doing this because I had installed SE PC Suite software on my laptop. Hence, the hold C and insert USB cable was actually powering up the phone and starting PC suite.

Once I uninstalled the PC suite, Windows could take the USB flash driver included in the download files by the OP

i think you have to take the sim card out and plug in the phone then let the computer recognize the phone as a SEMC flash device.

THEN unplug, launch setool2 and proceed... im not sure but i think that should work.

i've tried everything... i uninstalled the SE PC suite, and i did pull the sim card out already.. but the computer doesnt even detect the phone.. but when i put the sim card in and set it as 'file transfer', it will show up as a USB driver...

either way, i only get the msg 'Hold "C" and insert the USB cable!" ... which i did many times already...

is there any other way to make it work?

btw... is anyone besides me struggling to open the back cover everytime? cause my finger still hurts lol

I have a W580i and want to debrand it... but, I really dont want to screw it up. I see it's probably pretty easy. Are these the files I need? It says ASIA, wouldn't I need an American one? My question is.. These are the firmwares to take my AT&T w580i to the same firmware that everyone is saying has the nice menu icons, no ringtone restriction, and all that good stuff?

So when I'm done the phone will still be the same phone I'm use to with all my stuff on it (song etc.) but with a couple new features and some cosmetic differences? I sound like a retard and I am to this stuff but I'm trying to figure it out

Are these the right firmwares the most recent ones and stuff I'm kinda lost

I followed this guide and debranded my phone pretty easily, the only hitch I had was I had to let my computer install drivers to recognize my phone as a "SEMC Flash Device". Before, when I'd plug my phone into the computer(usually to add music) I'd just cancel out of the "New Hardware" set up, but in order for this program to identify my phone I had to go through the set up and let it install drivers. Once I did that it all went exactly as described in the guide.

This is my first SE phone so I was a little hesitant, I'm more used to modding Motorola's. But all went fine and I really do like the new icons and more options. I did lose all the settings for internet and sms, I'm in the process of figuring that out.

On another note, make sure you back up anything you have on the phone, calendar events, tasks, etc, before doing this. I forgot and lost my whole schedule.

All those who are stopped about the USB flash drivers, try to install first SEUS. It will install these drivers.
Then go for this. Ah! and others ask about holding C and then press flash. It is "press flash" and then connect holding C.

For specific firmwares, try Topsony or SE-NSE and look around there.

Ha ha ha..thats what I too did. Nowhere in that instructions was it mentioned that "phone should not be turned on". But neither was it mentioned that "it should be turned on". I too spent some time before figuring out that the phone should be kept switched off. Being a newcomer to this debranding stuff, switching on the phone was something which I did naturally.

But anyway kudos to the guy whose posted all the stuff in the first place. Particularly, I liked the fact that he also put the SETool too in that .rar file. Very methodical guy whoever he/she was.

I held C, connected the phone, THEN hit flash, after the program identified my phone. I wonder why it's working different for different people. Maybe if it doesn't work one way for you, try the other?

Just got my ATT w580i, right away, i flash it.. and guess wat it stopped half way thru flashing... i was wow.. great I bricked it... unable to turn on or anything. USB show up unknown device, I tried to specified the driver for it, no help... I was about to cry...
then I took it to my vista machine..and wola it sees it ! So I go thru with the flash again, and whew,, it works !
Pt I learned.
1) If computer doesn't recongize it, take out battery and unplug usb , then put battery in and hold down c and plug in usb cable.

Phone doesn't have to be on to do this, my phone was off, well can't even turn it on, but yea.

Excellent guide.. took 10 minutes to flash/de-brand my w580i after download/install of the RAR. Key thing to remember is to first get everything set up in the SETool 2 Lite software, then after you click the FLASH button, to hold down the "C" on the phone and plug in the USB cable.

i got everything working, connecting, and the flash drive thing, but when i go into setool2 i cant add anything to the file list, such as the firmware which im going to flash it with. Any ideas? solution?

Thanks for the helpful FAQ. Got everything working although a few adjustments were needed. I managed to get rid of the Rogers startup logo and change language so I think it was successful. However, when I check my phone using setool it still says Network LOCKED. I tried to use the Unlock button in setools but it still comes up as Network LOCKED. So is my phone just de-branded but still locked or is the "network locked" irrelevent?

hy i am new to this really new actually.. i got the se w580i and its under the at&t brand or company.. now. i am using it for t-mobile... i want to use this program.. my question is 1st if this works well with vista. next are there or can there be any problems that this program will not kill my phone.. are there any problems that it can couse me.. and also the phone is unlocked will this damage or kill the unlocked property for this phone... please let me know becouse i really dont want to use the at&t stuff on the phone.. but i also dont want to kill my phone......

I cannot say 100% but I can say that 99.9% of the time it will work for sure, unless you do something stupid in the 5 minutes that it takes to flash the phone, other than that it shouldn't fail.

Yes, you lose your warranty...only if Rogers see your phone unbranded.
It's very easy to do this stuff. You need only the correct firmwares and custom and upload them as it says. And do your GDFS backup first.
There's always risk like energy cut, or pc failure that could damage your phone, but that's not related to flash.

And if you want your Rogers stuff again, just flash it again with Rogers custom.

Thanks Griffin for the great instructions--debranding went off without a hitch. However, I am not able to do MMS either. The link you provided gives a "No settings available for the current selection." when you fill in the menus for USA-->ATT--> W580i. Any thoughts?

For those of you who could not debrand. Try to install the usbflash driver by manual way. The driver is in sonyericson folder. Hope this is help in C drive

Oh yay! Full tutorials ROCK!! Will try debranding my, less than 24 hour owned, w580 after school tomorrow! ;D

Just a question though, if its possible, can someone direct me to the Rogers custom for "rebranding" the phone, if something were to happen? Also, say I debrand my phone, it is even possible for me to rebrand it? How would I do it? Just replace the customization(with the Rogers one)?

Hi all, im new to this whole thing and ive been tryng to do this for about an hour and it just isnt working

-my sim and mem is out
-i did steps 1-6 down
-i held c and connected to my computer when that one screen is up and it just keep running through that loading bar ( i tried pushing flash first too and then connecting holding C and still the same thing)

Please i really need help and i dont understand why its not working
lol i feel real dumb right now

o and btw after i connected and pressed flash it still says hold c and connect usb

Hi well i just kept trying, and what worked for me was hold C and connecting then hitting flash it would not do anything for about 10 min the i clicked stop and flash again without touching anything and it worked. but try differant stuff it will work out man.

I finally got it to work. What was wrong was that I did not properly install the "USB Flash Driver". Once that was done it all went smoothly. Thank you for the tutorial.

Ok well i am trying it with my w580 but once i press flash in about 2 min or so the phone just automatically boots up into mass storage. What am I doing wrong?

make sure you uninstall PC Suite before doing all of this. Thats what was making it not work for me. Uninstalled and it worked.

Also I had my phone OFF when I plugged in the USB and hit the c key

I ran across a sort of issue with my 580i. I just got it last night and flashed it this morning.It seems as if CingT&T is trying to crack down on flashers. Before flashing, I tried to go into my Internet Settings and what not to write them down, but the profile was locked, even from viewing. So I went ahead and flashed thinking I could just send them from SE, didn't work using U.S., corporate, global, or the old one (Former Cingular). I keep getting an invalid configuration, please contact your service provider. The only settings the phone will accept from SE are the old Cingular Express GPRS. And then those don't work for the internal browser. I also tried Cingular's website for the 580i, but they don't give out the settings, they just tell you you have a messed up phone, return it. I also tried the settings from the W300i.

I just finished editing the customize.xml included with your tut and am going to re-flash. Do you have any other ideas that might work? I'm kind of at a loss.

Maybe it's a problem of custom choice, not firmware.
Choose another one.

after debranding...anyone notice the side lights defaulting to green after using the walkman?...after changing a theme the lights are the theme's colors, when i use the walkman...or play a music file, the side lights change to green...not the theme's lights...even after i stop the walkman...
is there any way to fix this?

Hey, everyone.

I recently bought a used Sony Ericsson W880i off of someone I found on craigslist. After fiddling with it for a bit, I found out that it's branded as a Telcel phone--after a bit of research, I soon discovered that Telcel is a wireless service provider from down in Mexico.

I'm sort of eager to debrand my phone because of this. I keep finding little bits of Spanish on my phone (nothing big, just little text labels here and there) and the phone shuts down with this cheap looking Telcel logo, which is irritating me.

I'd love to try debranding my phone later tonight, but I'm a little hesitant. Does anyone know if I'll have trouble debranding my phone, considering that it's branded under a Mexican service provider?

Also, I was disappointed to find that my W880i doesn't seem to support the flash menus that I heard it was capable of. Could someone please tell me if debranding my phone will rectify that?

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions, but I'm sort of new to all of this. q:

Got it to work after a couple of hours of messing with the Gordon's Gate Flash drivers. XP Service Pack 2 kept blocking the install because the drivers are not signed and then it would load regular USB memory card drivers which don't support BIOS flashing. I use USB connections for flash memory, cameras and phones on my PC, so there's lots of drivers for Windows to choose from - all of them wrong.

At one point, I even had the Gordon's Gate drivers running at the same time as some Generic USB drivers. That was weird, but I resolved it by doing what everyone else did: Connect the phone AFTER loading the software and pressing Flash.

Once again, my problems were not with the Flashing software or the custom definition files. I couldn't get the PC to properly recognize the phone at the correct time. Then, as advertised, it took all of 5 minutes. :-)

Now I'm off to try to re-establish my lost Internet connections.

He he! Telcel. We hate it too here.

You won't have problems at all. Just choose the files you want and you'll be fine.
About flash menus there's no problem at all. First flash it and depends what you choose, your flash menus will be still deactivated or not.
If they continue blocked, you only need to load customize_upgrade.xml file on it.
Do a little research about this and how to load it.

With the messaging service from the SE website, I successfully got my Internet connection back with Rogers Canada. I just typed my phone number into the Sony-Ericsson web page and they phoned the settings directly into the handset. Nice job SE!

Now I don't have to start on the Rogers web page anymore and I'm not constantly hounded to buy their ringtones and download their MP3s.

Benefits of debranding:
Got rid of that stupid Rogers music player.
Can use any MP3 as a ring tone.
Killed those dumb time-limited games that can't be deleted.
Got two new games that work great.
Got new ringtones, themes and screen savers.

Cons:
Probably shouldn't take into a Rogers store for servicing if anything breaks.

I'm still discovering new unlocked features all the time. This is like getting a new phone all over again.

Since this is definitely PC-based software, I think your best solution is to find someone with a PC. The Gordon's Gate flash driver is the only thing that gets permanently installed on the machine as part of the flashing process. The rest can simply be deleted by deleting the folder where it all resides.

If your PC-buddy doesn't particulary want the driver on his machine after, it can be removed completely through the Start menu after. The driver gets its own program category and there's an uninstall option.

I recommend making it as easy as possible for your friend: Download the archive from the top of this thread and burn it to CD yourself. Then print out the instructions and carry them around until you find somebody willing to help.

No. Debranding is debranding and unlocking is unlocking. There are lots of sources if you want to remove the SIM lock, but this ain't it. :-)

Well I just tried this and it didn't work. I had to first click on the FLASH button then hold down the C button and then plug in the usb cable. After it finished it said READY but the log says..

Then When I put the sim card back in and turn on the phone, it says...

The first and most obvious point is that you removed the Sim card, which you didn't need to do. That might explain the connection error you received (No Ack). To troubleshoot this, start with the connectivity issure. Replace the Sim, keep the phone turned off and hold the C while connecting the USB. The PC should recognize that you connected the phone and will try to load the drivers. (Don't bother starting the setool2lt.exe yet. You are just testing connectivity.)

If the correct drivers are loading, you will see the message in the status bar that an SEMC Flash Device was just connected. If you don't get this, then you should try to reinstall the USB drivers again. Watch for error msgs, such as "These drivers are unsigned," and always click "Continue Anyway". Once you get the phone to be properly recognized when connected, you have solved the communication issue. DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE NOW.

Now move on to the flash files. Read the instructions in the first post carefully. Select your phone model at the top of the window and then add the files to the list. You need THREE files - two in the larger window that you select with the Add button, ONE in the Misc files window. When you add the Zip file to the Misc files window, you will see a message that the file has been recognized as a customization package and it will show a list of languages that will be installed. You should be ready to go at this point.

Make sure the phone is disconnected, turned OFF and that the SIM is still installed.

Click Flash and note that a message will appear telling you to press C and connect the phone. The second that the phone is connected, you will start to see the window in the tool filling up with log entries. This should happen instantaneously (and will if you have done everything right so far.) The process will seriously take about 5 minutes.

When the last log entry mentions "success" or whatever, exit the software and then disconnect the phone. Turn it on and call somebody.

Well, something weird just happened. I had left the phone connected to the usb. I was letting the battery charge. Someone said they tried calling me but all they could get was my voicemail. Someone else just called me and the call went through but my phone still said Configuration error. Please contact your network operator or service centre.
So I decided to try and re-flash it again and it actually worked!

Now I'm gonna go find some more flash themes.

Worked for me with the card IN. First try. You're not flashing the Sim. You're flashing the phone memory.

As for the question about the dates of the files, there may be other custom files out there, but after I debranded mine, I checked with the SE update service and they said that there was no newer software versions available.

Thanks, TheGriffin. The guide works exactly as written. This might be obvious, but it's done when it says "Phone detached. READY." I was expected it to act like SEUS and boot the phone, but it doesn't. Just disconnect the phone, and boot up.

For all people who ask about AT&T and Rogers firmwares:
These files are extremely hard to find. Specially W580 (db2020) owners. And made a backup is very very far to be easy.
So if you choose to debrand it take a note you won't be able to return to original state. Your warranty will be denied if you take it to these operators.

Of course. There's always solution if you screw it up. And if you make a big mistake so your phone is dead, you just have to make sure of it before sending to warranty.
I mean, be sure your phone is killed completely, even professional tools won't fix it.

I did this, worked great, now the internet key is the activity menu which is what I wanted.

However, I now have no more IM capability in the messaging menu. Is there a way to get IM back? Also, does anyone know how to make it so the clock works as a screensaver (instead of the screen turning all the way off) like the W600 or K750 do?

You can put pretty much anything on it that you want, since the restrictions imposed by your service provider are removed. Instead of having to download and pay for themes and ringtones, you can use the features originally designed into the phone by SE.

By searching around these forums and Googling a lot, I was able to find other Custom files that claim to have the other regions in them. BUT... you really don't need them. Besides, these files are known to work and I would hesitate to just grab some file from a Polish website that claims to have what I want.

The Asia version simply has more languages available and English certainly is one of the settings. It does NOT have the other two languages that are usually found on North American phones (French and Spanish). Don't you think it might be fun to change your phone to Turkish? hehe.

The setool2lt.exe has an option where you can set your phone type. The w810 is in the list. HOWEVER note that the three options files included in this download are clearly labelled as being for the w580.

A .rar file is a compressed file, similar to a .zip file. You need to look for WinRAR.

I've never had to send a phone in for warranty work and I doubt I'll have problems with my SE W580i, but I'm just curious.

No way to backup.
That's the bad thing with AT&T and Rogers users. Can't have their backups.
But don't worry too much. You hardly can kill your phone by software. Just do your GDFS backup that will work in case of a major software failure.

Global data flashing storage
It storage all calibration data, settings, blocks, and lot of things. Very important.
With SETool lite, just press "Read GDFS" and you'll have this very important backup. Keep it in safe place-

HOW TO UNBRAND=

Ok i finally found out how to unbrand my phone (SE W580i). It was much more easier this way.
1. press flash and press C and plug in your phone to the computer
2. If it does not find it, let go of C and take out you battery and unplug your your phone from the computer.
3.Put the battery back in after about 2 seconds and press C and plug in your phone.
4.Your computer should recognize your phone as something like "SEMC Flash Device" or something along those lines.
5. Then its pretty strait forward from there. Just follow the instructions and install the device and the flashing will begin.

Thats how it worked for me!!!!!

If you watch the script that shows up before the green bar starts filling up it should say something like flashing 'x amount of' blocks. As the green bar is filling up the number of blocks flashed should be changing in the text field or directly underneath the text field (I can't remember exactly where). Just keep holding the 'c' button while it says it's flashing blocks and it will tell you in the script when it is done. Should say something like 'done. phone is ejected' or 'phone is safe to disconnect', and if you look to the extreme right of the window all the buttons should be available to press again, not just the 'STOP' button. That's when you know it's finished and you can disconnect your phone. Let me know if that helps.

To anybody out there...I need

HELP

First of all I am an at&t user.

I followed all of the instructions in the tutorial to the letter. The debranding process took a little over 5½ minutes. I noticed the procedure on setool goes through about 3 steps.

The first two are flashing the blocked files. The final portion appears to be an upload to the phone. However on that last portion I read where an error came up during the upload process. I remember it recording an error #10. Of course naturally I didn't think anything of it. So once everything was complete, I turned on my phone, noticed that the at&t intro crap was gone, but a "please wait" bar comes up.

After about 30 seconds I'm asked to select normal mode or flight mode on a sky blue background. I selected normal mode and a message appears that says "Configuration error. Please contact your network operator or service centre" So I didn't panic I just retried everything all over again. The error message on setool comes up again. Once again I turned the phone on except and that same "configuration error" message returns. I tried everything one more time except I selected flight mode, and the same error returns.

Can anyone please tell me what I did wrong and if so is there any way to correct it? Or do I need to return this phone to at&t and forget the whole thing?

Any help is greatly appreciated

The config. error is because it doesn't have custom file. I suppose is because the process failed before upload.

In your PC where installed SETool lite, there's a folder with logs. You could pick the one we look.
You can better paste and copy the log, it's not necessary to post a screen.

Ok. You have the MAIN file corrupted. Look for another one and repeat your process.

The second log entry above is the one that I just did about 15 minutes ago. It actually worked this time around. What I did notice was that today I had to reinstall the USB flash drivers all over again in order for the phone to be detected as SEMC flash device.

They were installed yesterday when I attempted this.

Thanks for the help. Because I was about to turn this phone back in to at&t and reactivate my old w600

I have a little problem with my phone. I debranded the phone yesterday, and everything was fine. Except for the SMS. I could receive SMS, but cannot send any. It always says "unknown recipient". I check the settings with another branded phone, and it's the same. I checked the phone number as well, and it's correct.

What could be wrong?

(By the way, I'm using Rogers)

A.U., if you copied and pasted everything exactly as it appeared, it looks to me like you simply forgot to add a file or 2 the first time you did it. 'Cause the time where it worked you can see where it read the ASIA package. I could be wrong though, but either way it's good to know you got your phone working. Also, if you get or have gotten your MMS/WAP messages working could ya let me know what your internet settings are?

hey, im planning on debranding my gf's phone and just have a few questions
a) this may sound stupid... but do i have to hold 'c' the whole time, or just until the phone is detected?
b) there are some mentions of SMS screwing up... any thoughts on that?

I was having the exact same problem as A.U.
(getting the "phone detached" error after the "video player hook" line).

I've tried a different "MAIN" file and still the same result.
My PC is recognizing the phone as an SEMC drive and I uninstalled SE Tools.

I tried flashing the phone at least half a dozen times and when I'd just about given up (after getting the same "detached" error) I took out my sim/battery and when I put them back in everything was working (except MMS/etc).
I went through set up and everything is now working...except the File Transfer/Manager part of SE PC Suite.

My 580 is reading as a "089 Ethernet USB Emulation" device.
I cannot access the File Manager/get into the phone/memory stick.
I have tried connecting in Phone Mode and in File Transfer Mode.

I synced contacts fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I tried this out and finally got it after realizing something was wrong when I didn't get ANYTHING in the DESCRIPTION screen of the SEtooll2 program.

-turned off phone
-So I had to re-install the drivers ( when it asked you to search for proper hardware after plugging it in, whilst pressing C),let go of C,then waited for it to finish.
-Then pressed flash

Right away I saw stuff on the DESCRIPTION screen, so I knew it worked. My phone stayed off at this time too.

BUT, after my successful flash, my computer is not able to detect the phone in PHONE MODE ( so i can add pictures and ring tones ), though when i do TRANSFER mode, it detects my phone just fine.

Am i missing some driver or something?

I am about to do the guide but wait I need to know If I can get AIM back..Since I use it a lot, and also cingular doesnt charge me for data usage when using aim, will me doing this affect that?

I haven't attempted to send any multimedia messages yet nor do I know if anyone has attempted to send me any. But if you're trying to install the internet settings then you can go here, fill in the appropriate fields and a message should be sent to your phone requesting to install the new settings. I tried it on mine but for some reason or another the phone said the settings were invalid. So I'm going under the assumption that mine are okay until I find out otherwise.

Edit: I couldn't get the Internet and MMS settings to automatically install from the SE support site so I went to at&t's site and manually configured everything myself. So if the above link doesn't help try this one

The settings are a little hard to find since they are a little different than shown, but go to menu / messaging / settings / picture message / MMS profile / new profile / put in settings on web sight ( Under internet profile click R2R WAP Profile if you don't have a media net option)

That should work! ..it did for me!

I Hat to tell the tech people at ATT how to do this, and they said they would update the info on there web sight!

I don't know exactly what is text msg abilities, but it's probably because you changed your provider custom. (debrand)

Great tutorial, TheGriffin! I followed the steps and it went off without a hitch the first time I tried it. I haven't experienced any problems so far with losing Text Message abilities or anything like that, but I do have a question for anybody out there who has experience with this phone. Shindou mentioned this earlier, but I don't think anybody gave an answer.

I'd like to know why the light effects are always green/orange after I slide the phone closed, and how can I permanently set it to reflect the theme's colours (In my case, blue)? Thanks in advance to anyone who can enlighten me

K Royal, do you know if there's any way to make the patch myself, like what tools I would need, etc.? Can I edit the Customize.xml file or something? This problem is the only drawback to debranding the phone that I've encountered and if I can fix it, then the phone will be perfect.

I tried using the Sony Themes Creator to manually set the illumination colour, but it didn't help.

I've noticed that, like Shindou pointed out, this only happens after I run the Walkman application. Once I exit the Walkman, it reverts back to blue, but when I slide the phone closed and open it again, it becomes the Walkman green/orange colours again and stays that way until I reset the theme. I suppose if I never use the Walkman again, it would be okay, but that's kind of a drag.
