engadget or gizmodo stated 3 days ago that 1.1.2 was being internally tested and is to be released in 4 days to the public. Being that these are news/rumor sites, this most likely is a rumor, but I am anxious to see this as a real thing.

No, so I can sell the iPhone i got for free and buy a real groundbreaking pda instead. Hopefully someone has but this upgrade fw in the hands of the dev team, so they can start working on a crack now.

The only reason to actually jailbreak the new firmware will be to keep up to date with the hacking. Other than that, from the rumors, the firmware only adds international keyboard support and a fix to the jailbreaking methods, i.e. not worth it at all.

People should not focus on hacking this firmware, but rather find an easy way to downgrade to 1.1.1 and then use the previous hacks. Finding a new way to hack the new, useless, firmware will only make it harder as useful firmwares come out on the iPhone (3rd party support in february for example)

I remember reading a thread about a theoretical way you could get around future updates. Something like changing a directory name that the checksum looks for and that the secpack that comes with anysim or bbupdater virginizer would prevent anyone going from 1.1.1 to be deemed useless or locked for 1.1.2.

i didnt see that going on. i simply think these guys have enough keeping up with apple.

Yep - that coincides with the launch in the UK on O2. The UK phones ship with 1.1.2.
