D900i or K800i?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My w610i smashed to pieces, well it was kind of put together again but its not quite the same if you know what i mean.

The phone is only 6 months old and at the time, i was tempting to get either a d900i or the k800 but they were too expensive, now i see they are really down in price, but i dont know which one i want.

They are both of equal spec??

Help

Thanks.

SE hands down. I have had Samsungs in the past, and I don't feel that they are as good of a phone as what SE is putting out. Call me a fanboy, I don't care. I really like SE. D900 won't even let you choose your own message tone, you have to use a specified tone already on the phone. Boooooo.

samsungs tend to be better than SE in terms of quality, but not in terms of features.

I have a d900i, so can give you my point of view. The k800i obviously will have a better camera in the night time. Day pictures will be equivalent. The d900i has better video though, can do CIF at 15fps, compared to QCIF for the k800i. They can pretty much do the same stuff otherwise.

One major con of the d900i is battery life. If you need to have a phone that can stay away from power/usb outlet or car charger for long periods with heavy usage, probably not a good phone to get. It charges pretty quick at least, which is a good thing since 20 or 30 minutes on the charger does wonders.

The d900i can be had for bit cheaper too.

Not sure if the k800i can record phone conversations, but pretty useful feature to have. Also the d900 has a cool security feature if you ever lose your phone to help you get it back. Has SOS messaging in case you are in trouble which is really good for your girl to have. And also has whisper mode so if you need to whisper or in a loud place the other person can hear you loud and clear. Also the d900 is quad band.

I am sure the k800i has a few tricks up its sleeve over the d900i as well, never had one, so not sure.

Then there is also the looks. I guess this is all opinion, d900 is a beautiful phone. Very small and sexy. Slips into your pocket nicely. Not really into the candy bar phone. Some people like it which would make the k800 a better looking phone to them.

If your main interest is the camera, go for the k800i. If you want to lose night picture quality for video quality, then go for d900i.

They are both good phones and prefer the d900 for looks and video capabilities. Don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I would recommend the K800i if they're about the same price. Buying a Samsung when you could get a SE is like buying a Hyundai when you could get a BMW. And I say that as a Samsung owner.

That is an interesting statement. I wouldn't say that Samsungs are like Hyundais necessarily, or that SE is like a BMW.

I think that when you have two phones that are very similar in features, it is going to come down to personal preference. Things like slider vs. candybar, and if you have owned either phone before, that will make an impact on a decision.

Me personally, I will never buy another Samsung. I just don't like the looks of them, or how crippled they are. No themes, no added message tones, etc. I like to customize my phone, and Samsung just doesn't cut it for that. Motorola, Nokia, and SE are up there in customization. That is not important for everyone, I know.

The D900i does win out with quad band, that is for sure. Not everyone needs that, I know, but it is very nice to have. That is one thing that I wish SE would work on, quad band, or more phones with 850.

Hyperbole

You can change the sms/mms tone on the u600. The g600 has a built in theme creator (but no sms/mms tone). Themes I don't mind since able to put plenty of static or animated wallpapers. Being able to change the sms/mms/email tone would have been nice.

You can definitely customize the shortcuts. Left, down, and right can change, up leads to a menu with 5 custom shortcuts. Then 4 advanced shortcuts from the dialer. So a total of 12 custom shortcuts. Plus moving through the UI is quick once you memorize the numbers for everything.

Never had a sony, but no doubt they have plenty of shortcut options. You just made the d900 look pretty pathetic in the custom area, and had to defend and say that it isnt *that* bad.

Why would he want something that's not "*that* bad" when he could get something that's head and shoulders above? Samsung needs to step up their game if they want to compete with the big boys. Luckily they are.

Luckily, my (Samsung) phone can set pretty much any tone as ringtone, message, voicemail, even alarm and has a plethora of customization options.

My SE has 5 customizable short cuts, up, down, left, right, and a designated shortcut button that goes to a list that you can create. Provider branded SE's usually use that button as their "internet" button.

I am not trying to start an argument, or trash talk any Samsung out there, because Samsung does make some really nice looking phones, like the u600.

You be quiet now and go back to the sprint retail store that you crawled out of.

The d900i can set a 3mp picture with autofocus as the alarm. Can your sprint phone do that?

Just to let you know, i got a k800i, and im very happy with it . I used the m2 card from my broken w610i and it worked like a charm, although it would be nice to format it and get a bigger card which i may do tomorrow.

So far so good, everything i expected from a sony.

Thanks for all your input guys, it really was a big help.
