Shadow questions/comments...

I'm new to Smartphones. I upgraded to the Shadow to be able to manage text messaging (maybe chatting as well) and better Internet (mostly WAP).

* I click on the t-icon for internet and I can't connect with anything, including the default favorites. I have t-zones (T-Mobile web). I expected to be able to go to simple web sites. I get an "Error 502 - Bad Request / The Server could not resolve your request for uri: /x" and x is whatever the location is after the IP address (ie "/" or the path). I've also tried using wi-fi with my home network, and I get the same results.

* text messaging: I appreciate the picture/multi-media messages integrated with the SMS messages. However, each message type has different buttons/menus. When I'm scrolling through messages, I can't go past a MMS message. The right key doesn't work. And then to delete the message, I have to back out, go back to messages, highlight it and delete with a soft key (not the menu as with SMS). Is this a bug? VERY annoying.

* What do most folks do with storing phone numbers? I'm used to having everything on my SIM. Now with T-Mobiles sync'ing phonebook, that might be a moot point. My Shadow transfered all my SIM contacts to the phone to be able to sync with T-Mobile. Now I have double listings. I can't find a way to ignore the SIM listings. On my "cheap" phones, I could ignore the SIM listings, as I recall. I can't find that option on the Shadow.

I appreciate the help in getting up to speed with the Shadow. I hope my comments help others if you're considering the Shadow.

Double check your TMobile Data configuration (Settings-->Connections-->GPRS); make sure you are using wap.voicestream.com as your ap

Sim contacts: try using a registry editor and change the followings: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.

Cheers!

Thank you, lgmildwill.

I checked the settings and the AP is set to wap.voicestream.com under the "T-Mobile Data" connection. There is a "T-Mobile MMS" connection set up as well.

The "T-Mobile Data" connection has "Connects To:" set to "internet". I tried "WAP", but the browser then complained about improper setup.

For the SIM contacts, how do I use the registry editor? Is there one somehow located on the Shadow? I've barely tried that with a desktop. I would think this would be an easy setting to have.

i could be a possibility that your internet package havent taken in effect yet... it normally takes a couple of hours to a take for the system to update...

I agree with c.chicken, check with TMO on your account. I have the unlimited internet package and it works fine.

Regarding the registry editor, google for smartphone registry editor and install to your phone via micro SD or activesync.

I called TMO CC and it took a few transfers to get to the right tech folks. I think there is confusion over "web" versus "WAP". I have only t-zones (T-Mobileweb) and selecting the browser won't function. The same icon shows up under the "start" button which is specifically for t-zones. I've since noticed that the home screen t-icon has t-zones option for the right soft key. Then I'm back to what I was used to.

I was having the same issues though when trying to use wi-fi at home. I'll have to check tonight if I can get the "browser" part of the phone to work then.

you can hide the SIM contacts without a registry editor.

1. Go to "Settings"
2. Select "Phone"
3. Select "Call Options", it will take a moment ot gather network info
4. Uncheck "Show SIM Contacts"

I deleted all my contacts before i fond the option, but this should work

Thank you nonmindo! I was just going to post that I found that option as well. Very strange place to put it. I haven't found it in the manual yet. Fortunately, I hadn't deleted my SIM contacts yet, although it could use some spring/fall cleaning.

Now if I can figure out why you can't scroll past a MMS message. I'm finding that really annoying.
