BB Internet Email Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi: Our users are on our company's BES. We use Pearls and Curves and 8700g's.

When they setup their personal internet email on their devices, the emails show up in the same inbox where they get their corporate email.

How can we get their private yahoo/gmail/hotmail emails to populate in a seperate inbox?

I have this same issue. I have my blackberry.net email and my Telus email accounts set up through BIS, they have their own seperate folders... but I also have my office email pushed from Exchange (through BES), and it only goes into the general Messages folder - along with all my SMS, PINs AND copies of the BIS accounts that are already in their other folders...

I wish there was a way to seperate my office emails into their own folder (like the BIS accounts are) and NOT have them all also show up in the general Messages folder (like the BIS and BES accounts are).

I know this is probably a very confusing post, by the way... sorry.

This app works very, very well:

The Empower app is really the only current option. You can do a work-around if you set up a search with your BES account as the criteria and bind it to an alt-hotkey combo.

All messages go into the "messages" folder and into the folder specific to that account. Delete it in one folder it is gone from all. This is how the BB works.

From what I have read and heard, and as the previous poster said, you can use a 3rd party app to separate it out. Never used it as it isn't a real bother to me. I like everything in one place.

Hey thanks for the link to that app. That's exactly what i was looking for! No offense, but for all I've heard about how stellar the BB OS is, it's just odd that a device that is built around the concept of email just dumps everything into one folder.

I'm certainly not the only person on the planet that wants their personal email accounts separated from their corporate exchange account.

For clarification, there are two ways to use a BlackBerry for email.
1) BIS: BlackBerry Internet Service
2) BES: BlackBerry Enterprise Service

1) BIS (designed for personal use) sends all your email to one inbox, as well as displaying icons for each account. This way you have the best of both worlds. You can read the mail from the respective icon for that account only, or you can read it in the main inbox. It's a matter of personal preference. I have my BB configured so that I can keep track of my day in chronological order by simply looking in my inbox. It shows every call, email & sms in the order in which they arrived. It's handy to look back to see what time someone called me, or sent an email when I'm in the middle of a busy day. Conversely, if I'm expecting an important email from a certain account I can go directly to that inbox and check for the message, as I have my BlackBerry setup to use both the inbox and the separate icons for each of the several email accounts I maintain. If I did not want to see the separate icons I could simply choose to "hide" them. Then I would have just one inbox to work from.

2) BES (designed for reliable fast corp communications) Is for work therefore they have control over how they allow their employees to use the "work" devices. They (your company) configure the email the way they want. If you do not want your work to see your emails, get another BB. Everything that is on a work computer, BB, or other device is open for them to read. You have no privacy or say in the matter. They can even shut down your BB remotely.

On a side note, the Vodafone and Vodafone Today themes automatically separate SMS/Picture/MMS messages from emails. It doesn't do much for separating BES from BIS emails, but it is certainly a start.

I am resurrecting this thread from the depth..... because I am new here, and have been searching old threads & trying to do my homework before posting new questions. I hope someone can help answer this for me:

I just bought a BB Curve 8320 (TMobile) & have BES set up so that I can synch up to my work email & Outlook calendar. The BB Curve was my own personal purchase, my company does not reimburse for the actual device. I just got it this week & have my work email set up on it & also my personal AOL email.

The above quote had me wondering, since this is my PERSONAL BB device, and I have my BES linked up for work, does that mean ALL my personal AOL emails are run through the company email server????

I don't think I like that.........

I'm thinking about downloading the Empower software that will split the 2 into different folders, but I don't think that actually changes the path of how the email is sent. Am I reading correctly that by having BES, *ALL* my email, regardless of how many personal email addy's I add to my BB Curve, will all be run thru my company's server???

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, it's important to remember that with BES, YOUR COMPANY has a lot of control over your BB. For example they can shut it down remotely so it no longer works. (this is for the companies protection so no one has access to company data if the BB is lost or stolen. ) They can control, or modify what data is being pushed to your device, they can filter or read everything on your BB. All of the advantages the company has with BES is great for them. But not in your best interest.

Especially if you paid for it, and you want it to be _your_ private_ device_!

The faster you disconnect from the companies BES the better off you will be. Then I would wipe it to remove all data and various mods that BES pushes to the device, and start off fresh as it was out of the box. This way you get a fresh start with no chance of software conflicts or corruption. Once it's completely wiped, then I would immediately add BIS service from your provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, or whomever you use) and once again it will be your personal phone.

Trust me, there may be some people who will argue this point, but I am the founder and CEO of a large scale enterprise (hi-tech) where we use BB's routed through our BES server infastructure. I'm also a big privacy advocate for what little privacy is left, and even I have two BB's.

I have my own personal 8310 Curve on AT&T BIS, then I have my company 8820 on our BES. I'm not trying to scare you or exaggerate a point here, it's just how it is. Anyone else is in denial or dreaming if they think otherwise.

Hope I have answered your questions and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Cheers!
