i have tomtom installed on the tytn II. i was in new york city last night, and i couldn't pick up a gps signal at all. when i got back into new jersey, it picked up a signal no problem. anyone else experience this?

tall buildings blocking signal?

I used mine in China Town a few weeks ago with no problems. Maybe it was the tall buildings?

If you want to use GPS in NY City you need TOmTom One device or any device with surf 3 chipset.
I also tried to use my tilt(kaiser firmware). in NY city it lost. TomTom One - no problem. I have no complains it is very difficul to be lost in NY City. All other places Tilt is fine.
Of Course - tall buldings, if you go to NJ you use the same satelites.

so does that mean i will never be able to use tomtom in nyc, since i only have navigator 6 for the tytn II? that seems stupid.

also, anyone know if tomtom traffic works? they list it as being available in several countries other than the U.S., but then they have U.S. coverage maps available for traffic?? i don't want to subscribe to it if it won't work.

The signal reception issue is not related to TomTom. It has to do with the GPS receiver not being able to lock on to the satellites. I don't have an 8925 so I can't compare it to my Bluetooth GPS receiver.

I have a subscription to TomTom traffic and it does work in some cities in the US. Last time I used is was driving from La Guardia to Hauppauge and it did show some slowdowns on the freeway. I use this feature mostly in Europe and it has been relatively accurate.

Bingo. SiRFstar III chipset is the key factor and unfortunately is not part of the 8925. This came up in a discussion with a tech for HTC (regarding my 8525 and just prior to 8925 release) and he advised that there indeed will be instances where a separate GPS unit incorporating SiRF III will be advantageous if not necessary with an 8925. In general it should work fine, but there will be instances that it will be "compromised."
