V3m Razr, New Firmware

NEW FIRMWARE = MORE FEATURES!

Verizon released a new firmware for the v3m razr on october 31st.
this update changes MANY things throughout the phone, including the addition of the RING AND VIBRATE function, and the ability to change the outside LCD. if you haven't upgraded your phone, i would strongly suggest it. it also changes some of the menu names back to "normal" instead of that pix and flix crap they had going on there for a while. also, the phone runs a hell of a lot faster.

just something to think about.

Posted by: steve500

So it still has the retarded red and white menus ? or not ?....

...

Posted by: jw98520182

unfortunately yes, but the added features are still a bonus. the guy at the verizon store who updated my phone told me that there should be another update sometime in about 3 months, so all we can do for now is hope that more features are returned.

Posted by: avediswolf

If you get a chance, could you please post the new version number?
Thanks.

Posted by: jw98520182

i can try to get the numbers for you in the morning, but i no longer have that razr. i had to have verizon replace the phone because of a bug in the new fw. the bug screws up you call logs and adds false(or none at all) entries to the list.

also, as another feature to add to the list, BLUETOOTH FILE TRANSFER IS BACK!!!

i find this new firmware really ironic, cuz just this morning i read a post where humpa said that verizon has given up on the v3m and will probably never return the features to the phone. lol

If I take my hacked V3M into Verizon to have the firmware updated will they know that I have hacked it? Do I need to restore my phone to its default settings first?

And I am also assuming that I will need to do the seem edits again after the new firmware grade.

So, is this for real? I just had it done yesterday and I don't have any extra features. Mine was the orignal flash, I got it the day it hit the stores. It looks like my version now reads 01.09.02.

Posted by: zerocover

Hmm I did the alltel flash to fix those same problems.
Anyone think verizon will mind?

Posted by: TheFlasher

do you think they will update the v3c with the new menus?

That's not the new one. Your version has been out since early this year I think.

Then Verizon's new flash would be a major downgrade for you. Keep your Alltel flash.

The menus are still the same on the V3m as they were before. Verizon has no reason to change them as long as all of the sheople keep buying.

can anyone else confirm that the new firmware enables bluetooth file transfer?

Posted by: jw98520182

it enables file transfer for all but MP3s and protected content(files that came with the phone and stuff that you purchase from Get It Now)

it will allow you to transfer any of your personal items and what not

So, I need to stop back by and tell them to check for a newer version then. Can they check manually for available updates or is thier system supposed to do that automatically?

I've read many reports that once the phone is flashed to this new firmware "upgrade", it makes it difficult to flash to anything else. Some have stated that it can be flashed (to another carrier's UI) after several attempts, as if each attempt unlocks a bit more of the the firmware's squeeze.

This is true, however anybody that is brainwashed enough to want this new firmware, won't care that they may not be able to flash to something better.

Especially if you use hot water...then it shrinks too!

Posted by: wymi

Can this upgrade be done online using MSU?

Posted by: colemancb

This is quite a pain in the ***. I wonder if there is something that is being done (or not done) by the people not able to flash back after getting this new FW, like accessing V-CAST or something like that. I can't flash back either (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1281789) and really don't want to be stuck with a dead RAZR. All the info I've read points me to installing a new bootloader, but I don't know where to get that file, or what address to specify to Ramldr if I did have the file.

Wow that seems like a good new flash seeing how even the moto people could do what verizon pulled off (altell version) is it possible verizon possibly hired some programmers?

I think it more has to do with this being a modified KRZR flash.

Posted by: Psychokitty

I believe everything this firmware offers can be done with seem edits. It's more of a pain, but at least you would not have to worry about not being able to flash to another UI.
Don't care about that? Fine. But think again if you ever expect to try to sell your Verizon phone to anyone on the web who might want to flash it to their liking.

I know I'll never buy a phone that isn't gauranteed never to have been flashed to this.

Anyone that is having problems with flashing back, there is hope. Basically, its a process of unplugging your phone during other flashes, and eventually it will work. This is what I did:... Started the SPRINT (yes, sprint) flash, unplugged at 1%. Then, started an Alltel flash, unplugged at 1%. Those steps are coming from Derek_H_2007 over at HTR when he was trying to get his Sprint phone back since they have this same block in their new f/w... then what I did was start the VZW flash, kill it at about 50%, but you should be fine the more you let it flash before it fails. Then, while its in bootloader mode, push the power key and it should boot the phone and show the red bar at the top with antenna / battery. Then, I flashed it with the Alltel V3m monster (b/c VZW would flash 100% but not get any better), and its back 100%. Hope this info helps!

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work I thought it was bad to kill during a flash.

Posted by: colemancb

Well, I did too, which is why it wasn't something I tried at first, but Sprint is using this same kind of block that VZW is apparently, so I figured I'd try it.

I had to exchange my Razr yesterday because it wasn't recognizing the TF card. The new one they gave me has the new UI. Ver. 24.1_01.19.05. I was able to do some seem edits to allow USB transfers from MPT to Pics, however, I couldn't transfer any ringtones. I also couldn't email ringtones. WTF. So now I'm stuck with this phone that only has stock tones. Anyone know how to get ringtones to the new Razr UI? Also the disable EVDO works.

I wish that were true!
It'd be kind of nice to have Vibrate AND Ring and maybe having a different external screen picture like this firmware offers.

Oh well, I'll just stick to VIVO. Figure it out myself. Pfft.

Posted by: BC2504

The new firmware does have Vibe AND ring. It's the same firmware that is on the Krazr. You can do the seem edits to enable MPT transfers of photos, but to transfer MP3 ringtones I used P2KCommander and they transfered easily. You also have to delete the Mytone.db file, then restart your phone. It will rebuild the ringtone database and everything is good. The new firmware isn't the greatest (it is Verizon), but it's a hundred times better that the old. Also, the Tech Support MGR in the store told me today that there is another firmware upgrade coming for the razr in about a month.

I know. I'm saying that 'if everything in the new firmware could be achieved with seem edits' like PK said, it'd be nice to have Vibe And Ring on firmwares such as VIVO and Alltel.

Posted by: Psychokitty

I thought Vivo had "Vibe & Ring".
