I'd check out some of the existing threads on the phone in the VZW LG sub-forum.

Bitpim autodetects the wrong phone.

Click Edit, Settings:

Select LG-VX8550 from the Phone Type Drop Down.

Works fine!

*Note, you will need to have the drivers intsalled for the LG Modem (not included with Bitpim) I loaded mine for the Music Essentials Disc.

There are a number of posts that take you through it. The saga of my successful journey to loading phonebook, ringtones, photos/wallpaper etc. on the 8350 is on the forum page at:

http://verizonwireless.howardforums...=1#post10286713

That post includes a reference to another very well written post on how to get BitPim to do what you need.

As noted by others, BitPim won't auto-recognize your phone. You have to manually set phone type to the VX8550 to get it to work.

Go to your Verizon store and get the music essentials package. My store charged me $15 and it has the USB cable, drivers and music SW, and a stereo phone headset for the phone. Great deal, instant gratification. With the cable and latest BitPim, it is easy to send your ringtone MP3 files to the phone.

I have found the VX8350 to be a very good phone -- excellent reception in marginal signal areas, very good battery life. Most of the "Cons" have to do with the Verizon service, not the handset.

Good Luck.

Ok, I have the driver, BitPim, but no matter how many times I try, it still says access blocked by provider. How can I get around that?

Have you tried the latest (possibly even test) version of BitPim?

I get that every once in awhile. Redoing the action usually works for me. Once I had to disconnect and reboot the phone for it to work.

Just downloaded the newest version of BitPim (Test)

1.0.3.20071206 (06 Dec 2007)

It includes and AutoDetects the vx8350 correctly!

I friggin' love you guys!!

Well, in a "thanks for helping me flip the bird to VZW" kinda way......

Had to get a replacement 8300 and got the old blocked message on v1.0 of Bitpim. Now, thanks to this forum, Verizon,

Screw their "You need to buy our software and over-priced accessories!"

Thanks, guys. I finally got it to work. The unplug and reboot worked on the second try.

I used the VCast PC side utility to sync some music to the phone last night. It was able to grab from my iTunes collection without any troubles. Whereas when I tried to use WMP directly, it could not.

Glad you all were able to get BitPim working.

Well, I was stupid and did it all backwards. Bought the data cable and headphone adapter separately and now don't have the CDMA moden driver that the wizard wants to hook the phone to the computer because the cable came with a CD, but there are only website references on it, not the actual driver sets.

Can anyone point me to driver?? Or better yet, can you email it to me?

Thanks C-DM, that was the ticket! My cable has earned its keep and talks the the Puter. Bitpim now lets me in and my favorite lady is not on my screen when I answer (no, it's the wife.)

I grabbed some MP3 ringtones and tossed them in the ringers folder and uploaded and they show up in the phones ringtone list. But they see to be messed up. When I assign one a play it, it is super fast and high pitched. A 5 sec voice run goes by in a few clicks that seem to have the same intelligence but at a very qick playback rate. There is also a buzzing sound that is overlayed on the whole playback. Each icon in the list for the new ringers is a gold icon while the original tones are green. Did I miss something in the Bitpim settings?

I ran the sounds thru on Media Player on the computer before uploading them and they are fine there. So it seems to either be a conversion issue of the phone doesn't like the MP3 file type. Is it supposed to be converted manually or something?

Any ideas??

Scott

When making the ringtones change the sample and bit rate to 24000 and 24 before converting. This always works for me. Also I was told to limit length to less than 40 sec.

You should also make sure that the channels option is set to 2 or stereo.

You can't, you can only do that on the Chocolate or the Venus (for now).
