Trouble with IM apps over tmobile edge

Both IM apps (i have tried apollo and mobilechat) work fine for me over wifi, but if i try to connect over t-mobile's edge, they dump me back to summerboard. I assume this is an application crash?

I have a t-mobile account with the blackberry unlimited service, but have been unable to get any other APNs to work besides wap.voicestream.com. internet2 does not work. Is this an issue with blocked ports?

Anyone else have this issue on T-mobile?
