How to fail the credit check?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have tried to fail the credit check twice through itunes using the 999-99-9999 SSN to no avail to achieve gophone. Is there any other way which is a failsafe way to fail the credit check? Possibly a SSN like (123-45-6789) or some other that doesnt match my real one? or no SSN at all? I kept getting the, "We need more time to process your activation" message with the 999 trick.

Help is appreciated or back to the store it goes

Yes. It does display that message, after which you're also supposed to receive an email with your activation ID and a 1-800 number to call which brings you to AT&T's customer service.

Tell them you want to activate your iPhone on a GoPhone service. They'll tell you to wait a few minutes while they cancel the post paid activation you just tried to sign up for. It is only then that the "GoPhone" option appears in iTunes after you plug the phone in the computer for the second time.

That's pretty much how my GoPhone activation went though. Good luck!

i'd tell customer support you want to use it with gophone or pick your plan or whatever.they'd rather you sign up for a regular contract but if you tell them you're going to take it back i doubt they'd want to miss out on some $$

I recently activated my iPhone under the gophone plan. I activated it using the 999 SSN, and received a message saying that my activation needs more time process.

Eventually (about 30 minutes), I received a phone call from an ATT rep saying they need a valid SSN, I just told them that I wanted to use my phone on a prepaid account. They canceled my current activation, and I recieved another email stating that my activation was denied and I have 2 options - "make a deposit" or "activate under a prepaid account"

THATS when you'll finally be able to activate the iphone.

Tell them you do not have a valid SSN because you are not legal then they will do it.

So what's the advantage of going prepaid? Can you put in a post-paid SIM card in it?

^ people who can't afford to pay a monthly bill ??? thats what I thought.

Can't afford to or don't want to.

Posted by: photojoe83

It's not an issue of being able to pay the monthly bill or not. Prepaid actually costs more than postpaid while being less value for money at the same time.

There are simply people out there that have really sh***y credit, that's all!

So do I do a bogus SSN but not the 999 one? Then will i get the options or will I still have to convince ATT to let me sign onto a gophone plan? Or is it simpler just to tell them that I don't have a SSN?

Do you guys still get all of those annoying messages with the gophone plans?

No need to tell them ANYTHING. Just ask for the GoPhone plan.

I had asked for that before and was told that only a 2 year contract was available? Maybe I need to be more persistent?

Do not give a fake social security number, you may mess up someones credit.

Also, you can say you dont have a social.

So pretty much enter all 0's for my SSN, when they call me I just tell them I don't have a SSN and I'm good? Do you still get all of those account notices with gophone?

Easiest way to fail the credit check: stop paying any and all bills for about 3 months. You won't need to worry about post-pay activation for at least 2 years. Problem solved!

Not correct, to get the iPhone Data plan on GoPhone, you must first fail a credit check. AT&T requires you to fail credit check to get the iPhone on the GoPhone plan. This can be done in a few ways, the ones I know is having bad credit that requires a deposit, or having no SSN.

If you walk into a AT&T Store and tell them please give me the iPhone on the GoPhone plan, they will tell you it doesn't work on the GoPhone plan, once you fail the credit check their computers allow them to sell you the iPhone on GoPhone. Same thing with over the phone.

I used the 999-99-9999 SSN on saturday and i didnt even get a email, it just prompted the GOplan screen after I hit continue. It had said something like credit check could not be performed please choose one of the other methods to activate the phone. The option was get a preaproved code from a Att store, sign up for one of the GoPlans and I forgot the other option.

Posted by: trevor51590

Ok so it looks like entering 123-45-6789 for my SSN and when they call just tell them I have no SSN it should work like a charm? Am I correct?

Posted by: Taco

how bad does your credit have to be to not get approved for a postpaid plan?

Posted by: trevor51590

Appearantly this got lost on the second page and I wanted to get this taken care of today. If I enter in a SSN for iTunes such as 123-45-6789, I can get lucky and it will give the goPhone options right there or it will say it needs more time, etc. then ATT will call me. If they do call me should I just say that I don't have a SSN and I should be in?

does anyone know if this still works?

anyone tried it lately other than lexball?

How much are the plans? And how much for internet and text messaging on the go phone service?

Posted by: tempacct

well i just called ATT national CS and they said i will need to go to my local ATT store and get a prepaid activation code to take home and use on itunes.

then i called the local ATT store and they confirmed this.

they also said it will be:
$29.99 (for 200 talk minutes)
$19.99 (iPhone unlimited data plan)
$19.99 (unlimited sms)

seems like a decent enough plan... just to try out the service and device to see if i like both... contract free!

it just seems a little too easy, since most ppl on hofo have been using the all 9's SSN hack.

i wish someone would confirm if i have to use the SSN hack or if i can just activate prepaid no questions asked. it's kinda confusing.

Posted by: Lexball50

I didnt know u could do the iphone with prepaid but I had searched the forums and found the 999 ssn hack and as soon as I put in the 9's the screen, it went directly to the prepaid option or it asked me if I had a preapproved code from att. Once i clicked on prepaid/go plan, it gives you like three more plan options, i picked the 200 mins and the unlimted date, it was like 50 bucks.

999's worked fine for me, no ATT callback, no att email back, it was activated in like 20 minutes, voice and data.

Posted by: tempacct

sweet. and that was on saturday 11/03?

Posted by: etienne0626

oh man this is awesome news. I have sprint, but I really don't want to give up my contract with them but I LOOOOOOVE the iPhone.

i never saw the point of getting an iPod Touch when I could get the iPhone with all of the same features PLUS a nice camera, and I can just pay for it whenever I choose to use it. I mainly text from my Sprint phone so I'm not really worried about that and minutes. And all of the cingular folks that i normally talk to I can talk to for free so that's a plus.

now i'm really looking forward to getting an iPhone.

On this note... Can I use the purchase of a gophone plan to return my iPhone and exchange if it has something wrong with it?

I live in Vermont with NO AT&T service...just roaming from unicel...Can I sign up with my parents address (they live in New York) and use the iphone in vermont with gophone?

From what I understand, AT&T will cancel your contract if you are "roaming" all the time...is that true? What would they do if I roamed with gophone?

I don't think there is GoPhone roaming.

This might clear a bit up for you:

Yes, even with a GoPhone 'Pick Your Plan' account, AT&T can close any account due to 'excessive roaming.'

That's only true with "Pay as You Go" GoPhones, not "Pick Your Plan" GoPhones.

Remember a GoPhone is either:
Pay as you go: Very expensive, but you don't have to pay a specific amount every month to keep service. It's similar to tracfone in features, but PAYG has data options and only limited coverage.
Pick your plan: You pay a specific amount each month for service (under a specific 'plan') and coverage is similar to a 'normal' AT&T account, but features or data can eat up money for calls. You're not guaranteed a certain number of minutes each month.

As I understand it, the iPhone is 'officially' offered under GoPhone's "Pick Your Plan." You only avoid signing a two-year contract by activating it this way. It is more expensive, as a 'postpaid plan' has more [guaranteed] minutes and incentives [such as rollover] than the GoPhone 'plan' of the same price.

If you plan to use an iPhone while in Vermont for longer than a month, I'd suggest unlocking it to use a unicel or other local GSM provider's SIM.
