So now that this new phone is out can everyone start posting their modifications to this thread.

Being this is my first ever PDA I'm completely new to this. I know some of the in's and out's about customizing... but not too much.

So how do I get started? Any tips on what I should do first before I start setting up all my personal info on this thing? I wanna customize ringtones, backgrounds, home screen, etc. Also, any tweaks to make it faster or just anything that might be useful or cool.

All suggestions welcome!

P.S.
How do I do this "app unlock" thing?
I think I need it do change my homescreen?

Thanks!
MaRiA

The single best tweak I've found -- and this is most likely going to be of interest to others over 40 -- is changing the default system font to Segoe UI per these instructions:

http://www.wikihow.com/Change-Fonts...-Second-Edition

I always found the WM Smartphone choice of font size (via "Accessibility") to be a choice between fonts way too small and way to large. Segoe is just about right.

Be sure to set up your email accounts first before doing this, as the screens to set up an account become harder to use once the font is changed. Other than that, I haven't noticed any downsides. I was able to change back to the default font per the instructions without any problems. Be very careful making registry changes.

What about disabling the "text message sent" notification? Isn't there some kind of registry hack for that?

how about a dialpad image for those of us who need to dial vanity 1-800 numbers?

Moto seemed to hide the _ (underscore)....Hold Fn key and Caps, an "insert symbol" screen will appear, and its the first one listed. Hope this helps!

you need to get total commander which is a registry editor...

then look here
http://www.i607.org/wiki/doku.php?i...nt_notification

when it says to create a new settings key that means a new folder... although one may already exist

Does anyone know if there is a way to reasign the keys? Locking the keyboard is a PITA on this, I'd rather remap the media player key to just lock the keyboard on a simple press.

you can relock it by pressing home then the space bar...pretty quick not really a pita

Ahh thanks for the tip, it's much better than hitting the home key down and waiting for the menu to appear to select the lock option.

Couple tips.

When using Opera Browser
-press * to see full screen
-press 3 to instantly return to top of page
-hold down the dpad or side nav buttons to rapidly scroll

Also
-to quickly activate voice commands hold down the speakerphone key

Has anyone taken one of these apart yet? I need some instructions on replacing the screen cover. I'm hoping to not go in blind...

Posted by: s4iscool

anyone have a driver that allows the qh9 to charge through the provided USB cable when connected to a computers USB port? my moto krzr would be identified automatically and I could charge it anywhere I had a computer, but the QH9 doesnt respond

Posted by: Outrigger

what driver? my Q9 charges fine when plugged into the computer. maybe you have a faulty connector? The Q9 is SUPPOSED to charge via the outlet or the computer usb.

Posted by: s4iscool

what OS are you using?

Posted by: Outrigger

I'm using XP, and vista works as well.

Posted by: s4iscool

weird, when i connect my Q, i hear the comp recognizing it, and the phone lights up, but then there is nothing. XP at work.

Is your work PC locked down by your IT department? We can't add USB devices to a computer here without an admin password.

nope, i have full rights to it, and no problem with other usb devices, including my other moto phone that charges through mini usb

Posted by: Tin Star

Check to see where your usb is assigned. I know it will charge under "Mass storage" and not under "modem" (don't know about the active sync).

system tools/settings/more/connections/usb connection types

Posted by: s4iscool

i installed activesync and while I dont use it, it solved the charging problem. Even after removing activesync, the charging still works through the usb now. weird, but it works.
