Curve in the wash

Yup... I did it... I forgot to take both my Curve and my Pebl out of my jeans before I sent it through the wash.

I took both of them apart and it's drying as we speak. Surprisingly, there's only one moisture indicator on the Curve vs 2 on the Pebl.

I'll let these guys dry for the next few days before I reassemble them and test it. If luck is on my side, both will fire up without problems. If it isn't, I hope the Curve survives.

Remove both batteries. Take each phone and place it in a sealed container of rice. The rice will absorb the moisture. Good luck.

Another reason to not carry your phone in your pocket!

But I don't want to look like those middle managers in my company who have crap hanging off their belts!

I did one better, I placed both into a glass baking tray and stuck it in a convection oven at 100 degrees. 100 degree weather with lots of air movement is just like a mild Phoenix summer.... it should dry up fast!

Hey, I resemble that remark!

That sucks! Let us know how it turns out.... I think I'd personally choose the rice method over the oven though, but thats me.

Coming soon!

I'm thinking of buying a bottle of Everclear 190 proof and sending the electronic part on a submarine tour in alcoholic bliss. It'll drive the water out from wherever it may be hiding and it won't leave a residue.

The cool part is that I should take lots of pics of taking this apart if anyone would want to see it.

I knew a girl who did that and ended up having water and rice in her phone. I just told her to pop it in the microwave, add butter and salt and have a meal. She was screwed.

Thanks Guys!

Just what I enjoy about this forum is there are some of us that truly enjoy some humor and having fun while spending a ridiculous amount of money on phones.

Hey, we could have worse vices....

What?!? Obsession with mobile phones a vice? I don't think so!

Well... the latest update....

Dehydrating in the oven at 110 degrees for 24 hours. 100 degrees for 4 hours, then a slow return to room temp.

Curve is DEAD. Won't power up. There appears to be a resistor or diode or capacitor near where the battery meets the circuit board that's blown. As soon as I can find my soldering iron, I'm bridging that sucker and see if it fires up.

As a just in case, I tried looking around for batteries for this phone and no one seems to have it in stock. Time to hit up the Sprint stores to see if they have the battery for the 7130s which uses the same battery.

As for the Pebl... all functions work except the most important part... the microphone. A place in California sells it for $15... a quick soldering job should fix that.

Congrats on getting that far - I would have expected you would never use either phone again. Water is the most devastating thing to start surging through the cracks and recesses of a cell phone. All of those tiny chips and traces are just prime candidates for making a short-circuit and a quick death to the phone.

The wetness indicators are there for a reason.
