I just got my iphone YAY!!!

i have set up my bluetooth headset already and works great.

But I noticed that in the bluetooth setting it displays my devices and still says "now discoverable" is this a bad thing? Can people access my iphone via bluetooth since its discoverable?

People could... pair their headsets with your phone... that's about it.

The iPhone only supports the headset profile, so it cannot be paired with another phone to transfer data.

It will only stay discoverable while you're on the screen with the bluetooth on/off switch. Once you leave it, the phone is no longer discoverable.

Even if it supported data profiles, you would have to accept someone pairing with your phone if someone tried.

My understanding was that it stays discoverable even after you've left the screen, thereby draining the battery. I always turn it off when I'm not using the headset. Is this wrong? I would love not going through the cumbersome task of turning it off every time if it doesn't drain the battery.

The Iphone's BT does really well as for not draining the battery. Or at least I have seen worse. I leave mine on, as I use BT in both of my vehicles.

I don't use a headset, so it may be different. I also charge my Iphone every night. The only thing that I have found to really suck up the battery, is internet surfing...

I charge mine nightly as well. I have yet to completely drain the battery. Would still love to know if the discoverable mode rests when you leave the screen...

It is only discoverable in the BT menu. As soon as you leave it, the phone is no longer discoverable. I just dug out my USB BT dongle and tried it.

it goes out of discoverable mode when you leave the BT screen. I have mine on and my battery is not drained or strained in the least. I would have to say you are wearing yourself out by doing these extra steps.

Discoverable and On are only related in that Bluetooth must be on to be discoverable. Having bluetooth on at all will drain the battery, but not quickly, it should hardly be noticeable if that.
