What is the frickin' deal with email receiving/notification on the iPhone??

I know push doesn't work for squat but I would expect auto-checking to work ok. But I turned it on today and never once received any new email automatically. I had to go in and manually check and then it would show up. I've cycled power and we'll see if it works any better.

That happens to me too. I was going to post this exact issue before it started to work right again. Hmm...

Are you using wifi? This was happening when i was using my schools wifi but now.I just uze EDGE and I get email fine.

Nope. EDGE for me. I dont think I have used wifi on my iPhone yet. Lol. I forget that I have it!

Doesn't work right for me either since 1.1.1. Incredibly annoying...

yep same deal with me too. alot of times i wont get them updated on edge or wifi. but sometimes it does. terribly inconsistent. just started showing up on 1.1.1

I am running 1.0.2 and this just started last week. So far though, it is back to normal but it was doing that off and on over the past week.

As ATT is continuously working on EDGE (at least here in the tri-state area) so it could be an ATT problem combined with iPhones power management/save.

Just curious, what e-mail provider are you having issues with?
My GMAIL IMAP works fine for me, as does my work IMAP on 1 hour intervals.

Use IMAP. I just made the "switch".

I have the same problem, too. My inboxes never seem to get updated unless I view them.

I just had this, I changed the time check from 15 min to 30 then back again, now it seems to be working better.

I use IMAP .mac and occasionally have this issue, but 99% of the time it works as it should.

Ok, I've been using IMAP for a whole day now and I have to say that the iPhone updates my emails every 15 minutes now.

I have the same problem and it is incredibly annoying!!!

One of the providers I used in the past would lock out after making a certain number of connections in a day. In most cases when the Mail app's invoked, it polls the server so make sure you keep within your provider's connection limits (if they set limits) when using Mail on your iPhone.

Plus, like other software, the server could be misinterpreting the commands the iPhone is giving it (like it somehow sees your password wrong or something) even if everything is setup right on the iPhone. That happens to me occasionally, being a bit quirky.

Yea so IMAP or POP it doesn't matter. I still have literally no email checking without manually doing it.
