Before my 30 day trial is up I'm wondering if my device is defective.

I decided after numerous inadvertant keypress's today while holstered but answering calls via bluetooth headset I would use the keylock function.

And yes, I know about the sleep mode etc but I've found that answering calls wakes up the phone which is great normally but not while holstered or in pocket using a headset.

Anyway can you owners check if when you press the keylock function your screen goes into dim light. After a while the screen goes black due to sleep mode. I Have not found a way to bring the screen into normal light mode short of unlocking it. Problem is, when its sunny and I hit the power button which brings the screen into dim light mode (so I can unlock it) It's realllly hard to see the unlock icon on the screen.

Is this normal

Same issue on two different units. Keylock or password from a suspend always starts with a Dim backlight

you might want to check the xda-developers.com web site. Lots of really smart people there. You can be a swell guy and post a solution here too, I'd like an answer to that one

Yes, mine does that too, but was this a problem? Hm, I thought this was normal because my older sony ericsson phones were also dim light as long as it was locked; and once unlocked, it turned to full bright screen.

I had that problem. After some searching....

By following some other thread's advice, I've been setting the following registry key: \HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel to 4. Initial setting was 0. Now when I lock my unit or the password function takes over, my screen does not dim when I power my unit on.

However, this setting does not survive a soft reset. Not that much of a problem because I don't have to reset that often, but simply change it back to 4 whenever I do.

I thought I read the Tilt had a ambient light sensor to adjust the screen brightness. My blackberry has one and this isn't a problem.

There is a light sensor for the keyboard which is a little hole to the left of the top letter "Q" key. It determines if the keyboard will illuminate on use.
Its more of an on or off thing, the keyboard brightness is constant.
I don't think there is a brightness sensor for the screen.

I believe you should make the change in HKLM not HKCU. I think that would prevent the setting from being lost to soft reset.

That key does not exist under HKLM.

If the registry works in PocketPC like it does in windows if you create the key in HKLM it'll propagate to HKCU permanently.
