Bluetooth on Discoverable

I can't get a straight answer from Apple on this...If you turn on the BT function, does it constantly stay in discover mode even when you exit the screen. If so, that must drain the battery. I would much prefer leave it on and just turn on/off the BT piece itself than go through the cumbersome process of turning it off on the phone when you use it. But if it stays in discover mode, it ain't worth it I suppose.

I leave my Bluetooth on all the time. The only time another BT device can see my phone is when I'm in the BT menu. I have paired it with my Pioneer AVIC-D3 car Nav system and everytime I get within range my phone connects to my stereo.

Thanks, but my question is, does that drain the battery by leaving it turned on (the iphone BT button, not the BT itself)?

Any ideas?...

As long as the BT is enabled it will use battery power. However I have not noticed a huge strain on the battery as I charge every night.

It is only discoverable while you are in the BT menu?

To answer myself, it is only discoverable in the BT menu. As soon as you leave it, the phone is no longer discoverable. I just dug out my USB BT dongle and tried it.

it uses minimal power as well. mine is always on (the icon)and I haven't seen a major reduction in battery power.
