voice but no data?

I have a friend that wants to get a BB curve but does not want the data plan, she only wants the voice plan that she currently has. The only reason she wants it is because its "cute". Can you add only a voice plan without the data? I know some carriers dont allow it but I wasnt sure about at&t

When I worked for AT&T, it was required. You could get one without the data plan and have it say "data connection refused," but I heard through the grapevine that AT&T was auditing and adding the plan to accounts with BlackBerry's.

nope. We can still sell BB's without data plans. However, it might be interesting to note that using a BB without email service is kind of like taking the V6 version of a brand new Mustang instead of a V8. Sure, you may look nice driving it, but in the end, you're just a tool with the wrong equipment.

I dont get posts like this. My wife has a pearl and doesnt have an email plan, she uses the phone for a phone, likes the interface and how she can sync with her outlook calendar. That makes her a tool? I realize the pearl isnt the curve, but the point is still valid.

One just needs to understand the limitations of not having the dataplan - i.e. no email and no Internet.

What about the other way around? I want to buy the 8310 with just a data plan only, but no voice plan. Would I still be able to make phone calls even though charged at a per minute rate?

Not really. It all comes down to the needs of the person with the device. There are plenty of people who have BB's without data plans who are perfectly happy with their decision and that's really all that matters in the end. Whether you understand or agree with the decision is really irrelevant.

Personally, I don't see the point of not using BES with a BB since you're not "fully taking advantage of the capabilities of the BB". However, again, there are plenty of people who are perfectly happy with BIS, an email-only data plan, or no data plan at all.

Having choices is always good. Thankfully, we're not all stuck buying V8 Mustangs...

Every discussion forum site is chock full of "experts". Most can't see beyond their own needs and wants or, worse, parrot information that they've read.

I don't have a data plan on my pearl and it's perfect. I love my pearl it's the best phone I have ever owned.
