(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I love my iPhone (*flame on!*) but, simply out, I need more features, for work, for life, etc. I need peoples honest impressions on the Tilt in terms of
1) Performance Speeds, freezes, lock-ups, etc.
2) Call Quality/Receptio
3) Speakerphone volume/clarity

I just need a device that isn't so....limited. I've had Windows Mobile phones before bu I here that the Tilt could be one of the greats and I'd really like to here honest opinions, either way.

Not trying to be a smart "butt", but if you read all the posts on the Tilt, you'll see the pros and cons of owning one. Some ex-iphone users swear by the Tilt now, while others don't. What it's going to boil down to is you. There's a few threads on Tilt quirks and freezes and such. I myself have had zero problems with the TyTn II, but on the smae token, I had to buy full price less a decent reduction. A lot of people flash with the HTC ROM, while others opt for the Today screen. What do you want to do with the device? I can tell you the TyTn II and the Tilt are both great devices.

Good luck in your search.

Well I'm one of those iPhone users that swears by the Tilt now. Dont' get me wrong, love the iPhone. Interface, Safari and iPod are unmatched. And I miss the slim form factor. However the Tilt just kills it when it comes to what it can do. I'm not big on playing songs on it, but mainly that's because I've purchased most of my music thru iTunes and it won't play on it. But I'm not big on the included windows media player. But media playback isn't that big a deal to me as i have an 80GB ipod Classic. But to answer your questions:

1. Performance speeds have been pretty good, actually great for a windows mobile device. I had a Q and Treo before the iPhone and swore i'd never go with WM again. But i've been pleasantly surprised. I've had maybe one freeze in 3+ weeks of having it. Can't even say that for the iPhone. There is some lag in the display when going from portrait to landscape view when you slide out the keyboard, but it's nothing that's drastic enough to be more than a minor annoyance.

2. Call quality/Reception: No contest here, it's leagues better than the iPhone. Haven't had a dropped call yet, and I can actually hear people now. The iPhone volume was horrible. With the Tilt I have to keep the volume around 50%. And people on the other end say everything comes through loud and clear. One of the benefits of 3G that is not often mentioned is reception and call quality.

3. Speakerphone is much louder than the iPhones which i found to be useless. I will be honest though I don't like speakerphone on any phone and i usually opt for my Jawbone bluetooth headset. But the speakerphone on the Tilt is not bad by any means.

I guess the only complaints i have with Tilt is the battery life and bulk. But with all the features of this phone, those are sacrifices that I expected before I bought it. Battery life is still much better than my Moto Q. And size of the phone has taken some getting used to but I still can fit it in my pocket fairly easily. I say try it and if you don't like it, you always have the option of taking it back within the 30 day return period. Just hold onto that iPhone just in case you decide you miss it. I still haven't sold it yet, but I'm getting closer every day.

1) Performance Speeds, freezes, lock-ups, etc.

Faster than my last WM5/WM6 phone 8125. A lot more memory too. I don't have to scramble to close out applications anymore.
Only two freezes with Windows Live Search (voice). Touch screen and all buttons were non functional. Both times required a stylus reset. I have removed the app.

2) Call Quality/Reception
Not much 3G in my area but regular reception has been good.

3) Speaker phone volume/clarity
Phone is loud compared to the iPhone. No problems hearing or being heard.

Would do it again

i am one of those who switched from an iphone, and now i swear by the TILT... all i can say to the OP is that u should try it out for 30 days and see.

i love it regardless of flaws...its louder than the iphone was, does all the things that i really wanted. including GPS

I considered buying the iPhone and own an iPod Touch. The Apple touch interface is amazing, but the lack of 3G, streaming audio, and elementary functions (e.g., cut/paste) made the decision to buy the Tilt easy. The GPS and full keyboard were icing on the cake. I've encountered very few bugs and routinely go three days between charges with 3G always on, light-to-moderate data usage, and minimal GPS and wireless.

I love my tilt just received it on monday. typing this message from it as we speak. I personally have been through a lot of phones in the past few years. from the razr to the imate jam to the nokia e62 to the nokia n75 to the treo 680 and now the tilt. this phone so far has everything I need all in one. A keyboard, fast processor, customizability, good reception, 3G service, gps, and the list goes on.

Mine is the bloatware att rom. I wanted to try it out before I almot brick it. lol. I have added htc home, kaiser tweak, google maps, and htc home customizer. good programs to start with.

personally I haven't encountered any freezes. I have encountered an odd thing with the phone interface but that has seemingly cleared up with a soft reset.

my battery lasted 3 days before I recharged it and that was out of the box. no initial charge. guess I got lucky with a fully charged battery well 90 percent.

anyways id recommend this over an iphone if you are a power user.

chao.

I constantly talk and email and google and or gps at the same time. only possible with 3g and the expanded memory of the tilt. iphone doesnt do talk and data. that is the deal breaker for me. and iphone no exchange email...mms... etc... If my data stopped because I had to make a phone call I would lose my patience.
