AT&T Recruiter..

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Does AT&T hire an outside staffing agency for recruiting purposes? I posted my resume online and I had HireVelocity call me and interview me, fill out some online forms for AT&T and tomorrow I have the actual interview. So pretty much the recruiter told me they are doing some major hiring for Southern California and might hire on the spot, has anyone heard of this?

what kind of position?

AT & T uses Hire Right and Hire Velocity for pre-employment screening and the background screening.

Currently they are doing "Power Interviews" where you basically go in, you get one shot at making a good impression, and yes if they like you, you can get an offer of employment conditional on successful background check and drug screen.

When I went to my interview on 11/1, I interviewed with two people (I think I was actually ok'd with the first one, but the 2nd Manager was actually the Store Manager for the store they wanted to put me in and the Hiring Manager asked him if he wanted to talk to me before she offered the job - yeah, I eavesdropped).

My projected start date for training in 11/19.

Hope this helps.

I just got back from the interview, I Had my interview at 10:30 got there on time and dind't get interviewed on time I think like an hour after. There was 40+ people waiting to get interviewed and every half hour more people would get there. I think I did good but the bad part is that I interviewed for a Store in Alhambra. City of Alhambra is predominantly Asian, and I am hispanic the Manager was asian, Last time I asked a Wireless store if they were hiring in Alhambra they said yes but that they preffered Asian's since their customer base consist more of Asian people. I guess I will just wait a week and see what happens.

Posted by: tomtheguitarguy

Did you specifically ask for Alhambra? When I interviewed, they asked if I had a preference, and ended up finding a store that was close to where I lived (that's why the 2nd Manager ended up interviewing, because they asked him if he wanted to talk to me before they offered me a position).

Good Luck!

I did mark other surrounding cities, but I guess she was the only manager that was there for the areas I had selected.

Not that easy, it's could be he says, she says. Additionally, they could claimed that they said they wanted a person who wanted to speak another "Asian" language.

Having a language requirement in a jobsite is not against the law. Having a race requirement, however, is against the law.

Posted by: arejan

I had no problem when the other Dealer told me he needed someone who speaks Chinese, I understand where they are coming from. It's like if they hire an Asian for a Hispanic area there would a language barrier so I understand I didn't take it personal.

Posted by: JP Whoregan

How about we just speak English and we won't have to worry about language barriers in the United States of America?

Posted by: i880/8525junkie

Yea...u livin in Florida JP...u kno that's no gonna happen...until the U.S. actually ratifies a amendment to the Constitution stating English is the Official Language (every country does this), it won't be possible...then u'd see an erosion of bilingual classes and such.

LOL Yes, Finally someone said something

Posted by: JP Whoregan

Damn right I said it. This nonsense has gone far enough in this country.

I don't speak Spanish in my store, nor do I even display Spanish language literature. And I'm not going to take the time to try to piece together what little broken Spanish I do know just to sell some illegal immigrant with a defrauded SSN a GoPhone. (Do you know how I know they're illegal? Because legal immigrants have learned English as part of their immigration process).

Do you know when I'll speak Spanish and display Spanish speaking literature? When and if I ever get transferred to a Spanish speaking country. I will speak the language of the land I inhabit. Until then, it's "HABLO INGLES, MUTHER_****ER!!!"

If I had the time, money, and resources, I'd spend my time suing the pants off every company that has a "language REQUIREMENT" as a condition of employment. Telling me that I'm qualified for the job, but since I don't speak Mexican I can't be hired?!?!?!?! How in the hell is that even legal!!!!!!! How has nobody SUED over this yet?

What's next? Discrimination because you might not speak the proper "urban dialect" of the area in which you work?

Posted by: BombaMyte

I agree. I shouldn't have to learn a new language when my home country/town speaks the same native tongue that I do. It's good that I have a co-worker that speaks Spanish as well, but that doesn't help me when he's not working and I am.

F-that. You want a phone, speak my language. I'll take the hit on missing an opp for the satisfaction of knowing the person behind them speaks English at least somewhat well.

Posted by: Y923

Yeah JP that would be nice...when I interviewed I asked for 2 specific stores and they said no since I don't speak Spanish. I still got hired but not at the 2 stores I asked for.

See, in my mind, that has lawsuit written all over it. It's funny I'm saying that, because we have an internet lawyer on this very forum who constantly states that ATT should be sued for about a million different things...but this is one thing they should be sued over.

So now you have to work at a different store, one that's probably a further drive for you, and now you have to spend more in gas each week, JUST BECAUSE you can't communicate with the illegal aliens in your area who shouldn't even ****ing be there in the first place. That's an absurd travesty.

The only jobs that should be able to REQUIRE bilingual as a condition of employment are jobs where you are a TRAVELING REP for that firm, and part of your job is to travel to Mexico or China in order to do business. Then fine. But otherwise, it's preposterous.

This isssue has been going on for the entire history of the United States. whether it's been the french Canadiens, the Native Americans, The German, irish, Italian, the eastern Europeans, the asians and the hispanics, this country has always had multicultural tension. Hence why english was never officially ratified as the language of america. The difference has been that most of the immigrants of the past were willing to assimilate and lose their culture in exchange for economic prosperity. The Hispanic community for the most part rejects the whole melting pot and is kind of why the issue is as pevalent as it is today. Illegal immigration has ben goin on for centuries...Hispanics didn't invent it...The dfference is that they wish to keep their language and culture...the african american community has a role in this..the kep it real and don't be a sel out has breeded an age of multicuturalism. I speak for my self when I say I speak spanish and it's my preferred language. I'm here in this country not to be american and assimilate, but to get this money. I'm from the caribbean, do u rly think I'd leave a tropical island to deal with the winter of nyc if the same educational and financial opportunities here in america were available where I come from? I agree that in the place of business...english should be spoken...but I am what I am..once i'm dne with my MBA...i'll be back in the caribbean with money and tropical weather.I love my culture. You can keep yours as long as I can keep getting this money. I consider u a friend JP so I hope ur not offended..but this is how I feel..

I just got an email stating I wasn't selected, not much of a surprise.

Learning to speak English is not losing your culture. I could move to live permanantly in France (LEGALLY), learn French, and still enjoy hot dogs, football, celebrate the Fourth of July, and keep every bit of my obnoxious American culture.

But I would speak French when doing business and interacting in France.

These illegal aliens are NOT here to "embrace American culture" or to "simply become Americans" or get a "path to citizenship". If they wanted to truly "be Americans", they would learn our language, and not arrogantly expect that I learn THEIR native tongue just because they've jumped the border to my country and are now gracing me with their illegal presence in my store. They don't want a path to citizenship, they want to pimp our economy because their own is a dismal failure. Period.

Very true. Like I said, in a place of business not owned by a hispanic, i'll speak English. I don't expect to be understood if I go to a place of business speaking spanish. That's common sense but then it becoms a question of why don't most of us want to assimilate. Me Personally, I love my culture, it could never be duplicated. What I think should be done is ratify the amendment making english the only spoken language. On the issue of illegal immigration...It was probably worse in the beginning of the 20th Century then now. It's as always amazing how history books do not discuss this, as if all white immigrants legally came over here which is hilariously wrong. It's jus such a big issue because it's not the european settlers of the past but latin americans (who share their descendency of language and race from Spain, a white european country) who are coming here. By 2015, Hispanics will represent the majority of Americans here..legally...not counting the illegals here. To most americans, it 's a very scary proposition. because it's not jus the mexicans (even tho they are the majority of us) but the Puerto ricans, the Dominicans (my race), the Colombians, etc. Each race has it's own culture and different way of speaking spanish. And yet go to pretty much any major city not counting the NorthEast and FLorida, we're all jus mexicans. That creats hostility, same way if u called an Irishman a Welsh. It's a very sensitive issue and I think we should end it because honestly, nothing good will come of ging deeper into it. Plus I respect JP and don't want to mess **** up over politics.

You Sir are the main problem with this country and why such a hostility towards all immigrants has risen.
The above quoted statement is the problem with modern day immigrants.
This country was founded on immigrants yes, but not the ones like you.
Previously people came here for a better life and to make this country a better place and they loved and were loyal to America.
They didn't come here just to rape this country of it's resources and go back to their so called beloved country. You said it yourself you are only here to USE. People like you make me sick. If you love the fu**ing carribean so much please go back.

I recently applied for ATT DSL CS (I know DSL, but still att) and I have been getting emails from xxxxx@spherion.com. Which isn't ATT, even though they always seem to add "Recruiter ATT" in their email. http://www.spherion.com/

I already took my technical and typing test at an actual ATT center. Before the test we started with about 25 people and after both test, only 6 passed. lol

Whats even more weird is I have a over the phone interview at 7pm on a Saturday night. Hopefully i'm not to drunk.
