Also Reading through this thread I had to chuckle, right when TX got that letter a bunch of newbs appeared with 1 post count and in depth knowledge of the upgrades, each claiming that their BJ was bricked, or could not get into boot loader mode, of could not get back to WM5. I am almost certain these messages were generated by the same corporate suit that sent that silly letter. A cute scare tactic but it just made me laugh.

good point cypher, as a matter of fact im working on it now..its not exactly ready, but at http://dan.omefilms.com/bj you can browse around and get a feel...its still in dev but id like to see it become something

Very impressed with the site. I was thinking about starting up a FTP or some other type of file server with a password for the same reason. I am going to read up on the software you are using and may start my own web page up.

I got tired of waiting for the "official" WM6 from AT&T and finally did the F1/I3 upgrade...everything seems to be working fine...haven't done any other upgrades as of yet.

Thanks,

I havent seen it mentioned, but I noticed a significant difference with the phone ringing. I use Vibe & Ring, and I want to say it used to have a brief pause between rings, and the vibe would pause as well. Again, if I recall correctly, continuous ringtones would vibe continuously, but a short tone or one with breaks in the middle, and the vibe would be the same.

Now (F1/I3) there's very little pause between rings and the phone continuously vibrates (at least on the tone I'm using). Now, I could edit my tones and add a second of silence or so at the end, but has anyone else tried something different?

Not a big deal by any means... just something that I havent gotten used to yet.

AT&T instructed me to download Windows Moble device center for my Windows Vista and Windows Mail, I did. I was able to SYNC my photos which is uninportant. It didnt SYNC my contacts, calander, email. There was no error it just was unhightlight, but Outlook was on the list not Windows Mail. From all I have read and recerched and ATT&T tect support and Samsung all saying something differant. They say it doesn SYNC with Window Mail that I need Outlook. I have read the posts many of the posts. I have yet to find 1 post regarding Syncing to windows Mail. One rep at AT&T said the new Blackjack2 will Sync fine but I hear and READ many differant post. ALL I WANT is a phone I can SYNC with Windows Vista & Windowsa Mail what my new computer has. I want to be able to SYNC contacts, calender and email. Thanks for your time and help......

I had been running the WM6 D2 version and mid week lastweek I noticed I was unable to get emails or internet sites. So I decided to track down the i3 version and loaded that in. ironically I had teh same issue with that one. So lastnight I jumped in to att chat and had someone walk me through a bunch of settings and after a reboot it worked.
Today I wake up swap out battery and it's back to the same thing. So I contact att via phone and they walk me through the paces again and still nothing. I did not tell them I was on WM6 but then again tey did not ask either. So after finally them teling me that it was probably my phone they gave me the repair hot line.
So obviously don't want to send in like this so I just reinstalled the wm5 update and WOW surprise surprise I now have access to web and emails

So has anyone else had this issue with the wm6 versions? and if so did you get arond it anyway?
The key indicator for me was that in the center of the screen it showed 3G but in the right corner it just showed the antenna. Oh and the AT&T guy this am had me do a master reset and still nada.

Thanks

Chip

I've been reading all these posts for quite some time and have been running the I3/D2 versions for a few months now. All seemed fine at first but before long I started having problems with ActiveSync. I use a schedule to stop sending emails from 11pm til 8am because I keep my phone next to my bed at night. Every morning my sync won't work until I first send an MMS message, then all is fine. I also noticed my internet (IE) doesn't work either but the MMS fixes that as well.

Sometimes I have this problem during the day intermittently. When I try a manual sync I get some message back about "remote server disconnected". Sending any MMS message always fixes it.

Weird....anyone else have any similar problem? I haven't seen anyone post anything like this until I saw your message.

So try sending yourself an MMS message next time you have the problem.

Unfortunately this is not possible using Windows Mobile Device Center. From Microsoft:

Why can’t I sync Windows mail, calendar or contacts? Windows Mobile Device Center only supports synchronization with Microsoft Outlook or Exchange. We currently do not support synchronization with Windows Mail, Windows Calendar or the Windows Address book.

Has anyone encountered the following problem with WM6? Every now and then the end call key quits working as the end call key and instead types the letter "s". First time I noticed it was after I installed Smart tool kit. A reboot solves the problem. but it is now doing this more frequently.

the app has set perameters for certain keys...I would look at the smarttoolkit settings and what keys are set for what commands.

so has the official wm6 for blackjack 1 been discontinued?

A couple volunteers needed who are willing to nuke their BJ in the name of beta testing a new cooked rom. Only need 3 or so!

When you say "Nuke" how bad of a strike? Are we talking recoverable, or complete brick?

Posted by: Kevad007

My 2nd BJ is with kid at school, I can use it later this afternoon about 4pm pst. Is it a PDA only type deal like the last one, or does it go deeper?

Posted by: cinimod1000

I'd be happy to help out, Da_G. Let me know where to go and what to do. PM me, please.
Does this go deeper than a PDA only one?

Posted by: Futbolkeeper

Ahhh screw it! I'm in, if my phone gets bricked I'll just have to get a new one for X-mas!

Posted by: Da_G

Yah. PDA only.. was having problems getting the registry to work properly but it's all good now.

Right now:

* Fully app unlocked with dev certificates
* ICS included and fully functional (thanks to chudy2)
* OBEX Bluetooth FTP server from i600 wm6 (found in settings -> bluetooth)
* All Startup/Shutdown and Camera sounds removed (you can add them back if you like or make any sound you want, given the right filename)

I've flashed my phone so many times now I have a process to get my stuff back on my device. Nothing fancy, I just have an order to my chaos.

Posted by: CocheseUGA

You should wait until chudy gets the RSK fix done. IMO, of course.

Posted by: Da_G

Looking for bugs should be delayed for a new feature? Why :O

Posted by: livingspring

Will love to try.
If your last release is anything to go by i believe this would be flawless too

Just saves time, honestly.

Posted by: Da_G

I believe the opposite.. using a handful of beta testers, finding bugs and fixing them in the existing added features before more features are added (thus compounding the bugs) is more efficient than debugging with an installbase of one..

Besides, I have open lines of communication with chudy2. If he has a release imminent it will certainly make it into the ROM asap!

I think the problem is with WM6 not Smart tool kit. I removed it and reflashed
(ucgf1-phone, ucgi3-pda). Installed Windows live and Windows live messenger exited out of the program yesterday and same problem. I push the red phone hang up key and it types "s". It sucks when you get a call you cant hang up on them, unless you take out the battery.(or they hang up first.)After a reboot, everything is back to normal. Was wondering if this was a possible bug. If not I guess my phone has herpes

Jeff, thanks for laying out what you did. I had discovered that the smarttoolkit had set keys and figured that was the issue. I know that on the leaked rom F1 that was an issue with the end key acting that way. Not once on the I3 has that happened...if anyone else has had this problem, post up and let us know.

Everything looks green so far in the beta. Already fixed 2 bugs!

ICS is working great out of box with an icon in the start menu, all you have to do is pair your device and it works. Doesn't get much easier than that!

OBEX FTP even works while ICS is connected. Smooooth. I'm looking into adding more BT Profiles to the anemic stack now..

Edit: I don't suppose any of you have a BJII and/or Moto Q9h and/or Treo 750.. it's time to start ripping nifty features out of other smartphones, and I need a ROM dump from those. :P

Edit again: Don't need Treo 750.. snagged the ROM from the WM6 updater. Poking through it now.

Ok, I think I've almost finished fixing up the new site. If Ya'll have been going to my old site http://dan.omefilms.com you still can, however, I'm putting all my stuff at http://mobile.omefilms.com. This is where the ROMs are, the different software is, and the tips and tricks, which I might add anyone that signs into the site can do their own submission. So check it and please give me feedback.

Dan

Posted by: Da_G

And just think, the guys at AT&T/Samsung working on it have a board support package so they can test all their changes in an emulator nice and fast..

I have to flash my phone every time I want to see how things are coming, it's quite time consuming :P I think I've flashed my phone 30 times already this morning.

The site's lookin' good, it should see a new ROM posted later today once I hear from my beta testers! :O

Can somebody please post the ms_mobile_oem.gif included in Da_G's most recent cooked rom?

Out of habit, I replaced this file, but before rebooting I noticed there was already a branded version, which I preferred. Oops...

Thanks!

Posted by: Quantify

I just flashed my BJ1 with F1/B1. Some observations:

1) the BJ1 actually seems faster than my Q9. Some of this may be apps running, some may be perception...I'll try to time some things to see.

2) While I otherwise have no complaints about BT on my Q9, for some reason I always got static when using my T305 handsfree carkit. No static with the B1 rom.

I'm still a big fan of the Q9 keyboard, but WM6 on the BJ1 brings it into close parity...Thanks Da_G! look for a paypal donation later today.

Posted by: Da_G

dpanice: The good thing about having files in ROM, is you can overwrite them if you like, but you can't delete them

Go ahead and delete the file, when you reboot the BJ it will be replaced with the one from ROM. (because that never really goes away, just gets overridden by the file you put there)

Da_G: Thanks for the tip and the quick reply!!

How's WM6 beta 2?

I saw on your site Caesar that Da_G posted it yesterday, so its fresh. I haven't been following this in a few weeks as I have been working on my own site and playing Xbox 360.

I got the ICS fix already installed, but I'm wondering if it made it into Beta 2 or not. I also hear about the End Key errors and it typing an "S" or something crazy.

Basically I got D2 and I3 (I think those are the numbers). And everything works pretty well. Maybe Da_G can answer this the fastest, but what differences are there with Beta 2 and I3 (I've read the description on the site).

Quote:
Removed: All AT&T additions from start menu (the 3 programs that are not just links to webpages are in Start Menu - Applications, please let me know if I missed something)

Added: Office Mobile shortcuts, Podcast Client from i600, OmapClock, a number of tweaks.

Updated: Display driver updated from revision 3 to revision 6

BT DUN is also in this release although I have nothing to test it's functionality with. I have not made any changes to the Car Kit portion yet.

Posted by: Da_G

There's a ton. I plan to put together a full list of changes once it's out of betaland and into a real version number. Beta 3 is already rolling out to the private area for testing with further fixes

Right now the push is towards a fully debranded, base ROM with all the functionality and none of the cruft. Many of the tweaks you might want to load up afterwards are already incorporated - I did a quick folder compare to the original UCGI3:

3626 files match
25 updated
143 new
549 removed

Most of the removed stuff is multi-language translations I removed in favor of the english only version to save space and make room for additional things.. like the podcast client from i600 which is already in b2..

The start menu looks pretty different too, it's hard to find a mention of AT&T on there

Posted by: player911

Sounds great. I'm glad that your ripping out the AT&T garbage. Thats the one thing that I hate about flashing; having to app unlock it, installing Resco Explorer, changing the permissions, deleting all the garbage, and RegEdit the Start Menu order.

One thing I've found to be useful is a Freeware app, PIM Backup. Its small and backs up your Personal info like contacts, messages, etc to a file which can be stored on the SD Card.

I also perform my "My Documents = SD Card" hack. Which is amazing.
http://howardforums.com/showthread....=Blackjack+Hack

You should try it and see how much you like it.

Also here is a basic Homescreen I designed. It is not your typical Homescreen. Its a template that I use. Feel free to edit it to your liking.

Beta 3 is over on the Mobile Repository, getting pretty polished now.

Windows Live Mobile is in, among other things..

Grab it while it's hot!

I dont get to use the SD card hack much because my phone is getting flashed too often :P

Has there been any attempt at the IE fix? You know, the constant 403 Forbidden?

Posted by: Da_G

no, what is it? I use opera, so havent run into it

Posted by: CocheseUGA

I don't know if it's a PIE or WM6 issue, but nearly every day (sometimes 4-5 times a day) I have to power cycle my phone because it won't access the internet.

There have been other posts about it, but I haven't had time to research it.

Don't know how you do it, but you are quite a "Cook" - It looks great!!
I think I will return my BJII and go back to the original.
It seems the only interesting part of the official WM6 ROM will be the Radio version!
Impressive work Da_G !!

Here is that homescreen:

And the My Doc SD card hack, I just mentioned it in case you wanted to implement it into your roms.

Posted by: Da_G

I considered implementing the sd card hack, but not everyone has an sd card, so im not sure i should put it in the base.. maybe 'on the side' like the overclocking shortcuts are currently.

Posted by: bluedevil

Quick question about WM6. I installed the newest ROM last night (thanks Da_G!). With WM5 when I got a new e-mail or text the right soft button would switch from "Contacts" to "Message". This is not happening with WM6, can I turn this back on?

Posted by: Da_G

Nope, click "read more" on the news story..

If we get a dump from an i620 we can probably get it..

when do you think, if necessary, the next rom update will come out, beta 3 rocks, or is this final

Posted by: GCRaya

I don't know if teverybody else is having this issue, but every time a reminder pops up on the BlackJAck, the sound goes off about every 10 sec. IS there a way to change that in the settings or is it a WM6 issue.

BTW the Live homepage works very nicely. Keep up the good work!

I hope not. Opera Mobile blows. I wouldn't recommend putting a browser in there because its easy to install one of your choice, and second it would have to be installed in the base memory because not everyone has a memory card.

Web Browsers are normally memory hogs anyway. I'd much rather see the ROM space go to things more useful.

Posted by: Da_G

I wish NetFront would make a wm standard version, it's simple browsing mode is awesome!

Anyway, in addition to what player911 said about being easy to install, Opera Mobile is a paid for product and I want to stay away from adding trial programs to the ROM.

I experienced the sound repeating issue too, some kind of bug, ill look into it.

Beta 4 will go into private testing soon, court owns most of my time for now.

Good point, however opera mini is not, and I swear by that one...it can emulate both mobile and pc browser, insomuch that the site you hit wont know if its a pocket browser or not...it loads up the whole web page for me in one screen view and if I need to max I can by just a push of a button, and back out again

anyway mini is a real good one..

Netfront has a smartphone version in development. I had the alpha. It was far from usable to the common person, but it worked great. Netfront 3.4 hopefully isn't that far away. Its my favorite browser and 3.4 has some really neat tricks up their sleeves. I believe its in beta now.

Preview version of hybrid beta ROM with cardwheel released over at The Mobile Repository

Some bluetooth profiles are not functioning, click "read more" on the news post for details.

Posted by: siliconvalley78

Da_G, how we making out with the Cardwheel that's not integrated into the OS, as separate file?

Pritesh

Posted by: pgens

Installing ow and will give it a shot... looks good! Blowing away phones is good during-playoff-game activity. Thanks!!

Posted by: Da_G

Unfortunately it seems there are two requirements for card wheel functionality:

1. it must remain as a module, so far i have not been able to get it to function as a file (see msdn on modules vs. files on wndows ce)

2. it is tied to a specific version of aygshell.dll

Those 2 requirements basically add up to: it must be cooked in. But who knows, maybe I can try manually assembling the modules...

So that means there's no way right now to make seperate cardwheel homescreens with different wheels, backgrounds, etc?

Yes, but why not do the re-flash and get it that way?

Posted by: Da_G

The backgrounds can in fact be changed, but you can't create a new card on the wheel, or anything like that. I put up a list of the images the cardwheel uses here:

http://dan.omefilms.com/mobile/modules.php?name=Forums

A quick google for card wheel skins will get you at least a handful

Posted by: kingofslackerz

http://www.modaco.com/content/Samsu...fully-detailed/

don't remember where i saw this, some people have made some different cardwheel themes

edit: after posting realized this was on modaco, so most have probably seen it. And it's from the models that have it stock.

EDIT2: This process does work. I made a red theme, real easy took 20 min. I suggest just backing up originals, before trying.

here's the most recent i made

Editing the cardwheel skin:

How to DITY: http://www.modaco.com/content/Samsu...fully-detailed/

Quote:
all files are located in the \windows directory

Initial background: - background_320x240.bmp
1. If you want to make one solid piece background like I have then you'll have to keep in mind that the background will be stretched accordingly to your phone's screen size so you'll have to do some adjustments to get it pin point perfect.
2. There is also a solid black area on the left that covers the time+date+provider

First Top Bar ("Message Center" in pic): - top2.png
1. This is transparent and the transparency cannot be change (to my knowledge)

Second Top Bar ("Appointments" in pic): - top1.png
1. This is transparent and the transparency cannot be change (to my knowledge)

Main Card Area ("Profile" and icons in pic): - center_tile.png
1. This is a solid piece and IS NOT transparent like the others
2. I recommend a background where it has more contrasting colors so it makes the text more legible

1st Bottom Bar ("My Photos" in pic): - low1.png
1. This is transparent and the transparency cannot be change (to my knowledge)

2nd Bottom Bar (Recent Songs" in pic): - low2.png
1. This is transparent and the transparency cannot be change (to my knowledge)
2. This picture extends an aditional 4 pixels down (so make sure your background extends into your start/quicklist area by at least 4 pixels

3rd Bottom Bar (not visable unless card wheel scrolls): - low3.png
1. This is transparent and the transparency cannot be change (to my knowledge)
2. This picture extends an aditional 4 pixels down (so make sure your background extends into your start/quicklist area by at least 4 pixels
3. For those who want a solid layout like mine it is the exact same as mine then keep in mind that it is like the 2nd Bottom Bar, but slightly smaller. Be sure to align the picture to the right wall than the left wall on a picture editing program (ex. Photoshop)

FINAL STEP
After you are done with what you want as your new layout, go to your settings > Display > home screen > change your home screen to something other than a card wheel then click done. After the ugly menu changes go back to the settings and change it to "Card Wheel" go back to your home screen and you've got yourself a custom Card Wheel homescreen.

I'm not much of a coder or real familiar with all the ins and outs of Homescreens, so I haven't figured out how to change the bg by the clock, so for now you can only change the bars and images by the carousel. Also no idea how to make the bars transparent (as shown in the first pic in the link). I'd imagine both of them are done via .dll files, and maybe not changeable.

If anyone can figure out how to do that and post that would be great. I'll keep searching for the files tho.

So here's one I did last night:

Here's a few I've done and a backup: http://www.mediafire.com/?c12wrg3ng2n

Quote:
Open Mobile Device>Windows Mobile Device>Windows

(If you can't see the Windows dir, make sure you make hidden files shown. In your explorer: Tools>Folder Options>View>Show Hidden Files and Folders)

Open the .Rar file > Extract. Take the files in one of the skins folder, drag and drop all the files into your mobile device>Windows folder and overwrite all files. A backup file will be included in the Rar.

Thanks to Da_G and everyone involved for getting this wonderful homescreen into the ROM

I'll register over there in the next couple of days or so. I don't really care about the BT not working (the reason I switched to my new phone), so I'd be happy to help test out if you have another beta.

Cochese, I'd really appreciate any input or a starter thread on the HTC 8525, I would like to see some advancement being done on that phone as well as some others.

Give me a PM at some point and let me know what you're looking for. I'm just starting to play around with it and find out it's annoyances.

Alright I just got my BJ today and I went to Flash it with WM6. I was following all the steps on Da_G's website, however when I go to install teh Vista drivers in the device manager it says "Windows has determined that the driver is up to date" or something to that effect. Because of this, I cannot install the drivers, what should I do?

Help Needed ASAP!

Posted by: player911

I'm not sure. I've always flashed with XP because I know Vista is a chore.

There are vista drivers available... but they may be trying to use their own instead of the ones you actually need. I would try FORCING the drivers that are on txcaesar/Da_G's website.

If flashing from Vista is so problematic, has anyone tried flashing using a Vista box hosting an XP virtual machine? The VM should have access to the USB ports on the physical box, so you should be able to flash from there...

Thats the official WM6 release from Samsung mirrored on my site because Samsung's downloads suck. People reporting 20kbs from samsung and 850 from mine. Pick wisely

Heh... ask for help on a dead device on a forum one minute, and in the next complain about a frequent poster in the thread. That'll get your dead blackjack places quick

does wm6 have the java nag issue? i finally
upgraded to wm6 and reinstalled extreme
agenda, live search, google maps, and

Its always been like this. A fix is currently in the works. A solution to this is to use another Java environment... but the default client works the best and supports the most.

Won't you just install the Smartphone version of those apps and leave Java for gaming?

Live Search, Google Maps, and Opera Mobile have non-java counterparts. For Agenda... I'm not sure, but I know there are tons of others like it.

Because it was just released and it was a mirror. I did you a favor and uploaded the file to my server because the samsung server was freakin' ridiculous. If you don't like it then don't use it. I have no problem saving bandwidth while you spend an hour at best downloading a 60+mb file.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds ya.

Great job. I got Beta 5 and I'm having a hard time convencing myself to go to 6. I've heard 6 is using the keyboard driver from the official WM6 rom and prolly a few other upgrades. Beta 5 had some serious BT issues... are any of these things fixed in 6?

Actually Opera was the only one giving me that problem. I just downloaded the first copy i saw from googling it on the phone. im now using Opera Mobile, not Min. So thanks no more problems, even though mini seemed a little quicker :/

Posted by: kenny147

Well here's a strange one to add to the list;

Flashed to WM6 without any problems, however instead of showing T-Mobile as my carrier on the today page, which it used to with WM5. It now shows Get More...

It's not a huge inconvenience but I'm curious as to why there's a difference.

Well yea Mini would prolly be quicker because the whole ordeal with Opera's browsers is that everything goes their a "proxy" kinda where it auto-formats the webpage to fit your device before it send it to your phone.

So with mini, your recieving webpages that are formatted to work on dumb-phones with little to no memory and forced to run it through java. Opera Mobile still formats the pages, but not as much. The pictures will prolly be a higher resolution and offer a little more functionality.

My favorite browser is called Netfront, which is currently in its beta stage for smartphones. The beta version of 3.4 can be installed and used, but supposedly the bugs aren't fixed from the alpha release. I've used it for a while but the bugs get annoying.

Netfront isn't as clunky as Opera and has a smaller footprint. 3.4 brings a ton of sweet perks. It also supports plugins such as Flash and Java support. Thats where my money is going. I have it on my PPC and refuse to use any other browser.
