It's official... known problem with q9h

Cellular video doesn't work with Moto att q9h. Strange problem. cnn and espn say not available. MTV clip works. Also after I downloaded a qpak from motorola.... Cellular video won't come up at all. It gives message of need a 3g phone or not available. Mobi tv won't work either at present. If these are firmware issues I can't wait for the fix. What a shame! I love this phone but those services are high on my list.

What data plan are you on? Are you on media net/media max/pda unlimited?

Posted by: solo118

sometimes it blocks you if your using a medianet plan. it has not affected my bj though .

I had been on the pda personal unlimited with 1500 texts. I had them switch to the older pda connect unlimited (both same price) 39.95 and same problem. In my home location I get mostly edge signal only with the q9h. the cellular video error that I get is that it works only with 3g phones. Possibly the moto q9h will only work if it has a 3g signal with cellular video. But I know the problem runs deeper than that because it didn't work at the att store either. Anyway, there is a trouble report in with att tech support and they are getting back to me by the 12th! ugh. If this is a firmware bug the phone is going back... can't wait a month or two. Also the same sim works in my Tilt (which gets 3g at my home btw) for cellular video no problem so it's not the sim or the provisioning. The Tilt is the only phone I've had that does everything well. Bravo Tilt and HTC. no crippling going on.

mine is working fine with the q pak installed...

I was told that tech support has many of the same problem reported with the q9h. Thus I called it a known problem. It's not the network or the sim. So maybe some phones are effective? I hope yours is working well! I really want a fully working q9h without a firmware fix! thanks.

This sounds really similar to what happened with a bunch of 8525's with PDA COnnect Unlimited. Go to your AT&T store, find a competent rep and have him troubleshoot it. I think it's a problem with the provisions on the account or some poop like that. I forgot what we did to get mine to work but for sure you need the help of a knowledgeable sales rep.

One solution that I remember (didn't end up working for me on the 8525), was to take off PDA connect and put on a media net plan on the sim card and that got it to work for some people.

Speaking of firmware...does anyone know where to find the ATT firmware for the Q9H? I have the Euro version and its kinda annoying.

Thanks!

Wait... I thought you had to use a PDA data plan with this phone? Can you get away with using a MEdiaNet 200 plan?

Just sign on to your account online and you can change it.

But will it work? I was told by AT&T that since the Moto Q phone is considered a PDA, a PDA data plan is required. She said that if I switch from a PDA data plan to a MEdiaNet plan, I will not be able to access everything since MediaNet is like a "limited access" data plan.

Is this true, or not?

Im pretty sure Ive read that quite a few people are on the medianet plans and it works fine. I got my phone from an att store and had to get them to take off the BB plan I had, so they put me on the pda plan. If they see that you are on the medianet plans in the store, they will change it.

Glad im not having any of these issues...GPS is another story

I'm using the old Mediworks with unlimied internet (MEW1) and have no problems with the Q.

I went online and changed to the medianet 200 and its working perfectly. Even using it as a broadband modem, 0 issues.

if you change it, will you have problems getting the rebate? Because I thought the rebate required the $40 unlimited PDA plan

Soundsgood, you are correct. Medianet is simply a wap mobile browser. It may, due to bugs also give you access to email and, less likely, to internet but you'd be living on borrowed time, because there is no way to know when that would be detected. And trust me, if they can find a way to stop giving you something relatively for free, they will.
Stick with the PDA MAX. It's a better data plan for your phone anyway.

that is completely false. if you really believe that the PDA plan is a better data plan, then you are the kind of sucker that ATT and other carriers look for. There is NO difference between the two. ATT just wants you to use the more expensive plan because they think that with a PDA type of device, you'll tend to use their bandwith more, hence the higher pricing. I have used both types of plans and there is ZERO difference between the two. So many people have been using the Media plans for their PDA phones and I have never came across a post where ATT notified the customer and made them switch or charged them extra.

I do this both tethered and bluetooth. I use PdaNet.

thanks for the info, thats a slick program! so if I dont sync my Q9h to my laptop via cable (i just sync with exchange for email, contacts, calendar, tasks), how do I install this? i take it there is no way to do it without a prgram like pdanet?

i agree on the data plan, there are always people that threaten how the carrier will come down on people, seen it with verizon for years, yet nothing happens. Ill switch after i get my rebate though, as that requires the full data plan

I have the mediax max 200 and I don't have a problem with CV. Sometimes I will get the error message, "Your CV has timed out" or something similiar and I just select "CV" again and the video will play again.
