Unlocking iPhone Experience
Hi all once again I have another phone. What a headache I should say.
I got my iPhone 4 days ago and unlocking it was a pain. I purchased my iPhone through a private seller in Toronto who used it and sold it to me.
Basically he unlocked the iPhone with v1.0.2 using the JailBreak method and anySim. But before he sold it to me he hit the restore button on iTunes. This basically relocked the iPhone. When I received it, i attempted to unlock the phone using directions I found at
http://iphone.unlock.no/
The first thing the website told me to do was to update to latest firmware, v1.1.1. That is where I went wrong. This website is for NEW iPhones that were never unlocked (basically out of the box iPhone). I followed the instructions to a T. The first problem arose when I got to the point when I used anySim to unlock the phone. It failed. And by that point the modem firmware was already updated to a point where I could not be reverted. All the functions on the iPhone worked except the phone, lol. Basically leaving me with a glorified Apple iTouch, lol!
I called a lot of people in Toronto to unlock the phone and most said they could do it but in actuality they won't be able to. With the newest iPhone modem firmware, it prevents the use of this method. Some people are having some luck with it but some are not.
I then purchased a method via eBay, and everything looked like it would work and when I got to the point of using anySim it unlocked my sim card successfully, or so I thought. After a reboot my sim card, it was not recognized. I was at my wits end. So I started calling around, looking to get my phone unlocked. I got a lot of sketchy people guaranteeing to get the job done. But here's the secret most people do it the same way as on the website. I finally found someone that does it, that I felt comfortable with. It took him nearly two hours but he got it done. He had to reinstall firmware 1.0.2, then revirginize, the upgrade and attempted to use JailBreak. However Jailbreak did not work. So he had to go about it another way. He then spent another half hour showing me how to use my iPhone with respect applications and other functions of the phone. I was very happy with his service. I was going to add his contact here but I don't know yet if he's comfortable with that so if you are interested let me know, and I'll let him know. I am not receiving any gain from this, by endorsing him. I just want to share my experience with this individual. He charged me $50. But it was worth every penny. Great Service, great person.
