hey guys wats goin on... so i've bought an iphone right and i'm about to unlock it and everything... but i seen so many posts about T-Mobile users having to switch their data plan that it got me all confused... so basically my question is

Do i need the 4.99 data plan or the unlimited data plan to have EDGE working for me?

Thanks!

$19.99 Unlimited Internet (includes Wifi)...if you want to sleep soundly at night and not have any hassle setting things up.

Ok, so I exaggerated about '38.'

Sign up for T-Zones on the T-Mobile website. Give it a day to set up.

Get installer on your iPhone.

Add the following source: http://iphone.surrealnetworks.com/repo

From that source, install his (SurrealNetworks') T-Mobile T-Zones Proxy app, as well as the Sticky APN. Verify wap.voicestream.com appears under your EDGE settings under General>Network.

Just to be clear if you unlock the iPhone and use the T mobile network/carrier, what features do you lose on the iPhone?

T-zones will operate slower then the internet plan. and it depends on signal strength also. Many factors. I've got the 4.99 plan and at work i get as low as 39Kbps and sometimes 149Kbps. But for the most part i'm using wifi at home at work and lots of other places. At my buddies house 15 miles away (almost to podunk nowhere) i get 193Kbps on the 4.99 plan and it was the same when i had the 19.99 plan. Way cheaper for bout the same performance IMO. Wi-Fi i.e. "hot spots" are t-mobile specific wifi access points. You get a username and password to log onto t-mobile points. There are A LOT of wifi access points, more then tmobile points, unsecured you can jump onto. Houses business...etc. either way if there are is no wifi to even hook up to, then everyone gets to go to EDGE.

There is a youtube fix on installer also if that's a software problem. but if you are on edge 4.99 plan, it will take forever to load and youtube will finally give up and say "cannot connect to youtube" It still works on wi-fi right? if not then it's a software problem.

It has the absolute same speed as the more expensive plan. Correct however (and obvious), that signal strength affects it.
