Press the internet button, it should say: Communication error. Try again or contact your provider for support. If it says that, it worked.

Yeah, that's kind of weird. I didn't have to do the latter to my W580i, but when I did the same fake setup on my wife's W580i, it did require me to do it. Now her's gets the error message Heavy Liquid mentioned. Not quite as convenient as the way mine works, and I'm not sure what the difference is in what I did.
