ATT 8525 refuses to upgrade to WM6, AS always shuts off.

Any suggestions as to what's causing this? I shut down anti-virus and firewalls, fixed all settings to remain active; and still Active Sync disconnects as soon as the ROM is about to be flashed and the phone is no longer connected or detected so absolutely nothing happens but a 206 error, which is supposed to be an open port error. Fortunately I haven't bricked the phone, but I tried 5 times and every time AS shuts off exactly when it's time for the ROM to be flashed.

It's frustrating!!

Please help! Thanks!

Have you read up over at xda-developers?

You will have better luck on a topic like this there with regards to unbricking.

Read the stickies though, going in there with a vague description like that will get you flamed. Details like what OS you have, what version of activesync, things like that are important in solving your problem.

good luck.

The phone isn't bricked yet. The new ROM just refuses to install due to AS 4.5 shutting off every time the time comes for the ROM to be flashed. I'm using XP Pro/Media Center.

Have you tried to uninstall AS and reinstall.

Also, if your trying to install an unsigned ROM you will need to install a hard SPL that will allow you to flash ROMs that are not released specifically for that device.

Since WM6 hasn't been officially released thats what you're doing.

Again, I would suggest you read up over at XDA developers.

It has been released for ATT. Here's the link.

Whoa I guess I need to keep up...didn't know that got released, my mistake

Not sure then but I would still give XDA a read though its a great resource of information.

Hmm are you trying to run the upgrade under Vista? I remember there were a few workarounds to make it work under Vista. Check XDA like mentioned

Reading in other threads that some people that are having the same problem have had success loading WM6 using another computer. If you have access to another computer it is worth the try.

depending on what you are using you will get this error. 1st what OS are you using vista or xp?

I would try to update either windows mobile center (vista) or activesync (xp) accordingly.

2nd. Make sure your battery is more than half way charged.

I have a feeling its the drivers....

I'm using XP Pro/Media Center as stated above. I'm going to try reinstalling Active Sync.

Posted by: Phone Diva

Well that didn't work. I have another computer but if it doesn't work on that, I may give up. The phone syncs fine except for that, so I really don't understand this!

I had the same problem updating my AT&T 8525 with the official WM6 Pro software. This was on a WinXP Media Center Edition PC. It finally worked on the 6th try and after soft resetting the phone.

Try soft resetting and see what happens. Another option is to try a hard reset, then try the WM6 upgrade.

Good luck.

Are hard reset directions on this board somewhere?

I also have a regular XP Pro computer, I may also try that first.

Thank you for the help, BTW!!!

I'm sure they are, but just go to Settings > System > Clear Storage. If you're referring to the post above you, it said Soft reset (not to be confused with soft taco as I just did) which is essentially turning it off and turning it back on. He may have meant hard reset, which clears out everything, so make sure you have all your info backed up (moving to WM6 will do the same thing, so I'm guessing you do).

I found the solution. I have to flash in boot loader mode. It worked!!

just let it run... when i tried to ugrade to wm6 on my 8525 it would disconnect active sync and i my 8525 would get green/red/blue bars on it. after that i would disconnect my usb and restart my phone to try again. and that happened about 4 times.. then i tried it again and once again i got the green/red/blue bar screen and a message popped up saying A.S. had been disconnected, but i clicked continue anyways and it upgraded perfectly.

Posted by: Phone Diva

Yeah those color bars are the boot loader mode and you need to just leave the phone in that mode for the upgrade. I wish they'd post this stuff as public knowledge. If I hadn't been knowledgable about these types of forums, I'd have been screwed!! They mentioned nothing about this in the FAQ section for the upgrade.
