Is anybody able to have the s40 working via Irda with a laptop and XP?
I have Win. Me on my laptop and send & receive faxes just fine via the IRda with the s40. The other day I upgraded to XP but after that the IRda is not working. I cannot find the IRDA port to install. So since i do work with it I had to take XP off.
Any of you have the same problem?
Tnx,
Federico

It took me hours to do it but I finally did it! The trick is to install IRCOMM2K onto COM4. And remember to turn off IRDA file/picture sharing in the Wireless Connection control panel.

Thanks, now is working.
the only thing wired is that if i go to the modem settings on my laptop it says " Before you can use this program you have to install the Siemens s40 driver"
What the heck??!!!
the driver is there and the phone-irda works fine, i can send faxes and connect to the internet ok. So what is happening"
Any ideas

I got WinXP able to talk to the S40 by using IRCOMM2K as COM4 (as suggested - THANKS! I was havin trouble)... but when I attempt to sync with OutlookXP, I receive errors...

The sync software comes up, reads data from the S40, then attempts to update "Updating 1 of 42" -- but hangs there. I then receive the error "No response from phone. Please make sure the phone is connected and no other device is using the port" then I get "Synchronization aborted due to errors"

Anyone else have luck with WinXP + OutlookXP? Maybe OutlookXP doesn't work with the XTND software?

Thanks,

The problem in your case seems to be the S40. If you have a SW revision below 3.2.0 you have to update.
Another problem are line breaks in Outlook fields. This crashes the sync app sometimes.

Thanks for the reply F.Ruehl,

I recently had my firmware updated to 5.0.0.

I am not sure if I have breaks in my outlook fields, however, I did sync JUST my contacts (which didn't work), and I also tried to sync JUST my calander (which also didn't work). Would 'breaks' cause the app to hand and respond like it did?

Thanks,

I didn't experience it myself, just got reports from other users so I don't know exactly how the sync app crashes due to line breaks.
From a programmer's point of view there's a problem with your S40: When the app says it updates a certain record it sends the data to the phone and waits for a response (OK or ERROR). In your case there's no response for a given amount of time, hence the error message.
In this case I suggest you reset the phone (not very promising if you just got it back from update). If this doesn't help you should ask for a replacement S40.

Thanks again F.Ruehl,

A phone reset allowed me to finally sync.

I just hope I don't have to reset once a week or something ;-)

I don't think Windows XP is different with Windows 2000's IrDA support.

I can use my S40 modem without installing IrCOMM.

My experience was weird. My WinXP notebook did NOT want to even talk to my S40 unless IrCOMM was installed. After IrCOMM was installed, I was able to use the XTND Viewer to see all my information, however, it when I tried to sync with Outlook, the phone locked up, and I ended up with an error.

On the other hand, my WinXP desktop computer (with IrDA module) DID sync with my S40 (without installing IrCOMM), however, it would only work after I 'RESET' the S40. Before I reset the phone, it would error similar to my notebook error.

This makes me think that the S40 would have worked with my notebook if I would have simply reset the phone. I guess I can try it again now, but unfortunately, my S40 once again does not want to sync with my desktop PC, and the same error results.

The S40 is a kick-*** phone... I just wish the damn software was a little more robust :-/

Hi,

Some people above seemed to be able to install ircomm2k on com4. However, it says that my com4 is in use. Is there anyway to get that port freed up?

Also, my s40 doesnt even want to talk to my computer. The wireless link doesnt even pop up when i place my phone near the computer to sync.

Please help

Thanks
