Switching to a Pearl

I am currently using an iPhone with the unlimited plan, but I'm switching to a pearl for a little variety. I purchased the phone at the no commitment price, but I heard that it will only work with BB plans. Someone told me that I can't use any data features unless I have the bb plan. Is this information true?

Yes, you must have a BlackBerry plan, even just to use a web broswer. There are several posts about this.
If you are not connecting to a corporate BlackBerry server, go with the unlimited BIS plan.
