How do I Edit & Create Shortcuts? (.lnk files)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Trying to clean up my menus and things, and place programs on the Memory Card in a more logical & cleaner method then the original programs attempts.

For example, a Game installed itself on the Card Root, instead on in Program Files/Games. Before I move the game, I need to revise the Startup Folder short cut. I have another game that has no shortcut as well, need to create one.

I know SK has a payware Shortcut manager, are there any Freeware editors/methods?

Seems to me years ago I knew of a way (on my original Ipaq 3635) but I forget now....

Thanks!

Total Commander allows you to do that and in my opinion is a great freeware file explorer/registry editor/etc. http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm

I use the public beta 2.5 build 3 and have had no problems with it at all.

What I want to know is how to edit the icon that the shortcut uses. Haven't figured out that one yet.

I found that out too a few minutes ago on accident...I can edit a short cut. Have not figured out how to create one new though, yet. Not sure yet about the Icon either. More digging!

If you want to create a shortcut in Total Commander you go to the file you want to link to, select it and then go to File\>>>>> (A)\Create Shortcut and then it'll give you a dialog box asking you where you want to put it. If you hit Tree it'll allow you to browse to where you want to put the shortcut.

JETninja, please enlighten us on how you are editing shortcuts. I can view the target via Properties, but I can't edit it.

Are you using Total Commander 2.5 Beta 3? I'm able to edit the target using it.

No, I am using Resco Explorer. Apparently it doesn't allow editing of .lnk links. I hate when I pay for something and have to install freeware because the paid-for software can't do something it should be able to do!

Sorry, not visited here much lately. Once I get something going I don't visit quite as much! LOL!

Yes, I use Total Commander. Found that out same time erikk was typing it to me...Ha Ha. You can select an Ink file and hit properties...it has a second tab to the shortcut with a box for the file path and buttons to make it easy to navigate directly to files and folders.

I mainly used it to clean up the Programs Folder, created new folders for Utilites, Multimedia etc and drug programs into them and then edited the shortcuts. Now my program folder is half as long as it was...
