What is the correct procedure to unlock w580? I already have the unlock code from my provider.....

I'm looking for a similar answer. I have an AT&T/Cingular SE w810i. I just recently got the K850i so I wanted to sell the w810i as "Unlocked" to make it more popular. AT&T gave me the unlock code, but since I don't already have a different SIM, how do I unlock it? They said the unlock prompt would appear when a different SIM was placed in it.

Or is my only choice to sell it and state the unlock code comes with it?

You could. Or you could find a cheap T-Mobile SIM somewhere just to unlock it with.

Hmm. Okay. I'll push my luck with another possibly dumb question.

A family member has T-Mobile and I will see her over Thanksgiving. Will I screw up anything for her SIM if I just borrow her SIM to put in the w810i, unlock it, then give her SIM back for her phone?

Sorry, the Unlock thing still has me a little confused and nervous, though I'm a pretty technical person normally!

Do the unlock codes from att fully unlock them, of just for 1 provider? Do they "re lock" after a reset?

It shouldn't mess anything up.

Just make sure they have their contacts backed up to their phone before hand--just in case.

With the proper unlock codes (up to 3 you have to enter "Network", "Network Subset", "SP"), phone should be unlocked for all providers.

You enter the code from the main menu, 1st using the key sequence (ignoring what the screen says)

That's the left arrow, star, star, left arrow . You don't need a foreign SIM. In fact such a SIM card will not help you in entering the code(s) for SE phones.

If the phone is fully unlocked, you will notice the 3 little padlock icons next to the 3 codes mentioned above are open. Look carefully as it's only 1 pixel.

Hey, cool. That seemed to work. I will still put the tmobile card in over the holiday and try to make calls just to make sure it worked.

On my w810i/Cingular it showed:

Network
Network Subset
SP
Corporate

All locked. I clicked on Network first, it said it was locked and to enter a code. I used the unlock code from the rep, then it dropped out to the screen and showed all 4 now unlocked.

Thanks for the tip! Now I can get this baby ready to sell after the holiday!

Thanks!!! I did the same and it showed a quick message that said --> Unlocked. then it disappeared quickly. The locks are deceiving it's hard to tell between lock and unlock.... so small and pixalated. I did get the unlock message though. I slip a frieds Tmobile card and test.

Just what I said. All phones, regardless if they are the same model or not, have a different unlock code.

Just like every single person has different DNA than another. (except identical twins of course)

Although identical twins have the same genotype, or DNA, they have different phenotypes, meaning that the same DNA is expressed in different ways.

Assuming I am able to obtain the unlock code for my ATT branded SE W580i, when I do the unlock procedure, will my themes, wallpapers, and ringtones all downloaded from the ATT MediaMall going to be erased? I am not going to debrand if I can't keep the crap I already paid for

If you have att service they will give you the unlock code..
Takes a few days for them to get it to you, but they will..Just tell them that you are going to travel out of the country and want to use you phone with pre paid sim cards over seas.

OR use davinci..

ya debranding is different.

Debranding returns the phone back to the original software developed by SE.

Unlocking lets you change the sim to another provider.

If you want to unlock it just call att and tell them you are going to another country and need the unlock code to use pre paid sim's. Takes about a week but they will email you the unlock code.

that means its locked..

The unlock "codes" are phone specific. there is no "master" code.

the <**< will just tell you what it and isnt unlocked.

if you enter the wrong unlock code too many times your phone will be "hard locked" and you will have to send it to SE to fix it.

If its an ATT phone call them and tell them you would like the unlock code so you can use international SIM's.. they will give you the code.
