Unlocked iPhone Owners: Feelings?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So one of my biggest fears about grabbing an iPhone is after it is unlocked, what if something goes wrong? What if it is something like a hardware issue or anything else that seems to have killed your phone...what is your emergency plan? I'd feel a lot more comfortable getting one if i heard some feedback or stories about what your course of action would be, or have already taken since you are ***** out of a warranty...go ahead, ease my mind lol.

i would just take the loss and move on, or pay the price to get it fixed...thats the risk of modding things...mod your ps2 or whatever and it breaks...well deal with it right?

A wise man once said: "You can't have your cake and eat it too."

I think it applies here.

Just buy one already! You obviously want one and since you are with Tmobile it comes with a risk.

Posted by: homexlife

Lol, thank you Donation. I could probably use you when I go into an apple store!

well, i owned an iPhone for about, 3 weeks.
i bought it at Apple store, with US issued credit card.
but, with canadian driver license ID.
the cashier at Apple store warned me if i don't activate it with AT&T, Apple will not warranty it.
i was like, whatever. I have yet to own an electronic device that failed before warranty expired, BUT, they frequently dies right after warranty expires.

honestly, 12 months warranty, that's a joke, imo.

i unlocked it(back in 1.0.2), used it successfully, and flawlessly for 3 weeks, good time.

I sold it to my brother-in-law who lives in Belgium when i visited him in October. He wants one badly.

if you can get 1.1.1; the unlocking process is ridiculously simple and easy, compared to 1.0.2

like Donnations said, just get it already if you want one bad enough

I second that. I picked mine up yesterday, it came with 1.1.1, and using this site:

http://www.unlockthatiphone.com

I had it unlocked, *literally*, in less than 10 minutes. Nothing but typing on the screen a few times and waiting.

Here is my math
New iphone $400 + $60 a month AT&T plan (2yrs) =$1840 approx
New iphone $400 + $30 T-Mobile plan (grandfathered T-zones) (2yrs)=$1120
These are not including taxes,
Over 2 yrs in my case its worth the risk.

See, I don't factor in the monthly plan cost, since no matter what phone I'd be using, i'd still be paying the same for the plan. I unlocked my iPhone because I don't want to give up my current (grandfathered) plan or company discounts.

Who in the world (besides you) calculates the cost of the plan into what a phone costs? You'd be paying anyway even if you got a free crap phone with a 2 year contract.

I umm... did. Haha! I crunched all the numbers and found to get the same features, I would be spending over $1200 over a two year period if I switched to AT&T. (This also factored in buying the iPhone on both sides of the equation!!) I could buy a total of four iPhones and still break even over the two year period.

Just get it and be careful. You'll be fne.

Its simple. Run OneSim, and restore. Purchase the cheapest GoPhone plan, and return it to the store. I am doing this when I have time. My Speaker is blown in the earpeice.

Pretty much anyone who actually has to pay for it themselves.
Yes- I'd be paying it anyway, BUT if I chose to go with AT&T, I would pay more for nothing.
Get it yet?

Once you virginize the phone and restore, connect it back to iTunes and use the 999-99-9999 ssn trick to get the prepaid iphone plans. Sign up for the cheapest one then return your iphone. As far as they are concerned, it's under warrenty and they will replace it.

(If that's what you're asking...)

Well I pay for my own cellphone bill and the iPhone itself. So if I'm with at&t I have to pay a monthly bill. Is t-mobile free nowadays or something? Maybe I should switch back.

I use my iPhone with my Work SIM so the total cost for me having bought one in the US is £200 which given that the iPod is included in the price seems like a bargain to me.

To borrow a line from Nike, Just do it! It's a great phone!
