Why is everyone so excited about the 8100?

I don't get it.. Its like 100 bucks cheaper than the 5300, that's the only plus. Well that and its like half an inch smaller. But in reality, its worse than the 5300. I guess its because its a new phone period, but come'on. I'd be complaining if anything about the 8100's existence. Instead of releasing phone's with obsolete technology, sanyo should be working to make better phones of better quality, not worse.

I'm actually considering getting one to replace my 4900, but I'm hardly excited. Its a tough choice between saving 100 bucks, and quality.

I'll probably end up with the 5300 though since I don't see any cheap data cables available for the 8100 and the 5300 is compatible with mine. I read that the 8100 uses a different type of connection......That's not cool. I don't see why they can't use the same. Does anyone know if the 8100'll be able to connect to the internet through a USB cable like the previous phones? This could be sprint's way of phasing out vision -> laptop use.

I have to disagree. Firstly, there is a $200 dollar difference. Secondly if you read the Specs for both phones, you would understand the hysteria. But hey, everyone has the right to their opinion

Well i'm talking about this moment. someone offered to sell me the 8100 for 260 off of ebay, and thats basically what they're going for. when it hits the stores nationally thats another story.

i see the 5300s going for around 350 on ebay also.

i do know that when it hits the stores nationally it'll be 200, and maybe by then they'll have data cables for it? I haven't seen anyone talk about its abillity to offer wireless internet connections though a USB cable though.. I'm really curious about this.

And another thing.. With no speaker phone, there's no possibility of a PTT upgrade. You'd think that with PTT ready to come out, sprint would be offering phones that have possible compatibility with it.

The 8100 uses the same USB cable that the 4900 and 5300 use. The only difference is that you can use a universal power plug at the same time. - sheureka

Really, I read somewhere on another forum that it wasn't compatible.

my thoughts:

The 8100 is not old technology. It, along with the 5300, sits atop Sprint phones in technology, and most other providers' phones for that matter.

I was going to start saving for the 5300 a couple weeks ago, and started coming back to these forums to see what's up.

I applaud Sanyo for releasing a phone with so many features at such a reasonable price; and they should be given some credit for bringing the first integrated camera phone to the US, much less the first two.

I'm about to burst in anticipation for the 8100. The reputation Sanyo has built among the cell-phone aficionados is impressive, and to get such a great deal on such a (seemingly) great phone just makes me more excited.

Uhh... correction. The 8100 DOES have the same USB and power connectivity. I'm using them right now.

I want a Sanyo 8100 so bad. I can not wait to buy one from Circuit City. I want to get the protection plan as well. Damn, I want to see this phone as well as Sprint just blow up!!!

Let the 8100 be the next Nokia 6100

the quality of the ringers on the 8100 is worlds above the 5300... it is AMAZING. That alone is worth forgetting the 5300 and its crappy ringer speaker
