Is it possible to make your own custom ringtones on the LG Shine TU790 I think? The Rogers version, Slider. Has anyone successfully done this?

im pretty sure u need some program to convert ur mp3 into 3pg or something like that

my friends got the W580 with rogers and thats what they have to do

i was doing some research and another thing u can do is use "DRM Packager" to make it so ur phone thinks ur music files are copyrighted

and the other thing ppl suggested is de-branding ur phone for like 40 bucks (flashing the firmware.. i dun suggest this cux knoing the shine is like brand new its gonna void the warrenty)

I have the TU720 LG shine that just came out from Rogers and I cannot apply ring tones from the mp3. So If anyone can help me to!

I have tried the following:

1) DRM Packager
2) converting it to a .wav file
3) creating the file like stated in the quick how-to for Audacity
4) converting to 3gp
5) converting using xilisoft
6) Punching my laptop screen.

None of these work, but after number six I did feel a lot better

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Its a good phone, and the java issue is easily avoided. I had that problem right at the beginning, and haven't had it since. anytime that the java error comes back, press the key on the right side of the phone (the one above the camera button) and see what applications you have running. Closing them all usually resolves this, the only time it didn't resolve it for me is when I FIRST got the phone and it hadn't been powered on yet.

Any news on the mp3's? Anybody? I vaguely remember Treatz mentioning something about a hidden folder when I picked up the phone from him.

try that i guess, iunno i was searching around and found it.. im kinda worried about the ringtone thing cux im chinese and i use chinese ringtone.. and obviously rogers dun support chinese ringtone for downloads

I have made some serious progress. I got a program, and am now able to see the ringtone folder, with the built in ringtones. I am even able to delete these ringtones from the phone, but whenever I try and add a ringtone, I am given an unknown error. I'm not 100% sure if i'm allowed to say what program i'm using, so i will pm a moderator to ask.

I have tried several times what you said about having more than 1 Application running and does not fix the issue on my phone. I returned mine today to have it sent back to LG to fix this problem I will keep you posted. As far as the ringtones I can get them into the file where the ringtones are but I heard rogers but a copy protection cause they want us to use theirs. But I am still working on that to.

The folder for ringtones is actually hidden within the LG applications folder, which you can find using QPST. However, Rogers wont fix that issue for you, and this I can guarantee because they simply want you to use their website. But hopefully they can resolve this Java issue for you

just ordered my Lg shine today... hopefully as the phone gets older in canada (as it has only been out for a week or so), more ppl will catch up on the new ringtone blocking thing they used and hopefully someone figures out a way around it =(

any idea if we flash it with the KU970 3g ver would it still work?? cux that version is identical to ours beside the nob..

Me too i'm on the mission!! i tried different issues but I can't find a way to put mp3 like ringtone for now. If I have news, i will post here.

Edit: are you able to read a drm file by your shine? I'm not able to play the drm i made but at the page 59 of the user guide, there is a note who let me think drm can be reab by phone...

krayzeemofo, questions for you: in what folder the .dm you downloaded from rogers goes in the phone?

I tried to create .dm whit severals seting me too but I don't know what is the good setting cause the phone don't want to read the file... Im not able to put .dm on the phone but I can put the file on the memory card in the folder sound. After that i go in this folder by the menu of the phone just to test if the phone can read the file but it is impossible... the message is file not support.

That's what I tried and nothing worked:

1) I downloaded ringtone from rogers (with qpst I can see the ringtone goes to lgapp/media/sound/audio)(when we go in the phone to see the file, we can see it's a .dm at the right but at the left we can see .aac file)

2)I tried to put an other file in this folder but it's block

3)I tried to copy the ringtone from de folder to my pc and it's work (the can transfert from the folder but not to the folder)

4)I tried to modify aac to create .dm whit SE but no big results. (I just find one of two options that allow me to creat de dmr file.)

5)I tried to send the new file on the memory card and i saw thw phone can't read it

6)I send the original file from rogers to my memory card with a different name and the phone readed it(the option to set as ringtone was here!!!)

7)I set the song as ringtone and I tried to call me.

8)I was not able to call me and I listen a voice who tell me my phone is anavalaible.(no mailbox!!)

9)I set a default ringtone and I can call me (it's work).

10)DAM THE RINGTONE I DOWNLOADED FROm ROGERS ARE NOT IN THE RINGTONE OPTION OF THE PHONE!!

11)With qpst the original rington from rogers is in the folder but i can see it whit the phone.

Result: I lost 3$ and I'm %$?&%&?*% again rogers

I'm currently stuck. I've got the ringtones into the ringtones folder, but I can't set it as my ringtone.

Well here's what I can gather

The ringtone must be copyright protected. Even though the built in ones are not copyright protected, when you download a ringtone from Rogers it comes as copyright protected.

If there is a size limitation, I dont know what it is, because the ringtone I downloaded from Rogers is only 120 kb, so who knows.

Pretty much, as far as I can tell, we just have to figure out what settings to put in for the drm packager and it should work, or maybe there's a file to delete within the hidden files of the phone.

I've pretty much given up, too busy with work and moving to my new place, but I'll keep you guys posted. Im no computer genius or cell phone genius hacker, but I'm trying

To build on krayzeemofo's idea of there being a file hidden on the phone we have to delete, I think he's right.

In the music folder, I've deleted all the songs and still been able to play music. There is a directory file that must be deleted. How we get to it, who knows...

seems like they just blocked transfering file to the phone in general
either we need a new build of QPST to do this, or we need someone to hack it..
if u try to put the mp3 ANYWHERE in the phone (at least for me) it doesn't work

would it b possible that the file sizes are too big?

I tried finding that database file today, but no luck.

Here's what I tried:
1) Deleting one of the .bin iles
2) Deleting the other .bin file
3) Deleting BOTH .bin files
4) Sending the file (over Bluetooth) that was the same name and specs as that file

Another note, to do it right, the should be sent by bluetooth, otherwise the phone displays an icon with like a memory card that must indicated that it was transferred via USB.

I also got an e-mail back from an LG Customer Service rep that said this:

but man.. is there any phone explorers out there that can manipulate the files beside QPST?
seems like u can delete, but cant upload =S

i tried mobile master.. it says it support KE970 phone explorer.. but when i selected KE970 the phone explorer tap doesnt come on (for Razr etc it shows up)

Another thing that I found was Sony Ericsson's DRM Packager (For Mac and PC)

No luck, as usual.

may be if you find a solution to put aac file in drm and you can send it to the phone via wap?? I tried it yesterday but It dosen't work. But I'm not a pro, may be someone could test it and it will work.....

I've already tried that.

When you attempt to download the dm file through wap, the phone will say file type not supported and not download the file.

But good idea, seeing as I thought it was a good idea too :P

i was told by my friend who works at rogers that she heard something about ringtones has to be less then 300kb from LG reps..

but i tried doing that.. and doing DRM, QPST, etc.. no luck
ill ask her again to see if she knos how to do it =)

Also tried the same thing with mp3, mid, aac, drm files.

yea, its dead centre of the middle.. first time i uploaded wallpapers the txt on the top was covering it too, so now all my wallpapers is moved down to leave room at the top for the time and etc

the 970 is not a branded phone, and therefore has no restrictions on it. mp3 ringtones galore for you.

ku970 is different from ke970 i think.. it comes wit 3g as well, but it has the scrollwheel instead of our knob

i was hoping i'd get it today but it hasn't arrived yet [the ku970] stuck in korea for some reason last time i checked.

ill try to see how it works. last time i had a vodafone fone, i just used itunes to convert the file to aac and they worked fine. maybe itll work for this.

btw, ive heard the shines have probs connecting to pc's...how so?

there is no limit to file size for the method i used haha
just drag the mp3 into the sounds folder in the pc manager tool
then set as sound theme-voice ringtone

autofocus is basically when you hold the take shot swtich partially and wait for a "beep"

the red box becomes green after autofocusing

i dun think TU720 has that... anyone can confirm that?
cux for me i dun have ne red box green box.. nor can i hold it only partially.. when i press it it goes all the way

there is another forum on this site that shows you step by step how to put mps ringtones on the lg shine from rogers.
its easy. look it up.
