backing up SMS from your V3C using Bitpim

I've been reading many sites about retrieving/ backing up SMS from VZW's V3c. I'm not sure if anyone has tried this, but I came across this after several hours of searching. Someone mentioned Bitpim's "filesystem" view on one of the pages that I came across.
You can access this by going to View -> View Filesystem with Bitpim (I have the latest test version). A Filesystem ICON should show up at the bottom of the Left pane. Click on it and browse the filesystem that appears in the middle pane.
The SMS files are located in /Brew/mod/syncom2/msging
if you browse through all the files, you should be able to come across a few .att and .env files. I know the text is located in the .env files. they open with wordpad, but again, some of the header info is missing. the text is there.
