Full restore of 1.1.1 ?s

OK, based on my screwing up (and subsequently posting in the wrong forum), I've decided it's probably best for me to restore 1.1.1 fully and start over. So, this is what I've been told to do:

1st, download the 1.1.1 firmware file (go to i.unlock.no, they have the file)

then connect to iTunes

put the iPhone in special restore mode by holding home and sleep button for EXACTLY 10 seconds, then release sleep while continuing to hold home and iTunes should detect iPhone in Restore Mode (Screen should be blank on your iPhone during this process)

I've gotten that far; however, I have automatic update checking turned off in iTunes, and when I click "restore" (it detects the iPhone in recovery mode), it asks me if I want to check for newer software updates, or click cancel. If I let it check, will it automatically put 1.1.2 on the phone, or will it let me choose the 1.1.1 152mb file I downloaded?

Once I do the restore, it should be locked 1.1.1, and I should be able to do the method from UnlockThatIphone.com (which I found very easy, it uses AnySIM 1.1 and whatnot.)

But I REALLy need to know about the iTunes recovery mode! Don't want 1.1.2 on the phone. :-\ Wish I could figure out WTH I did wrong in the install.app plist file, since that's the only issue I have (I mean, the phone and apps work fine, except for installer.app, since the plist file is f'ed up now. Lesson learned.)

Hi,

If I am reading you correctly, you are currently on 1.1.1? If this is the case, simply download 1.1.1 and hold down SHIFT while you clikc "restore", and find the file you just downloaded.

Yep, just saw this...totally missed it when i was reading the instructions.

The 1.1.1 restore is happening now. Basically I'm taking my phone back to factory-defaults to fix the issue I caused.

Good luck!

What did you ahve installed on your phone by the way?

AnySIM 1.1 is running now, so the restore worked.

i screwed up by first deleting the preferences.app by accident, then someone created an installer.app fix for me, and that worked, but there was an entry under "uninstall", so i wanted to get rid of that; I editied LocalPackages.plist and somehow screwed it up, so installer.app kept crashing every time I ran it.

That's the short story. lesson learned!

edit: possible problem...AnySIM 1.1 told me it "couldn't unlock this phone" and told me to restart the iPhone. I'm crossing my fingers that something with the restore didn't go wrong...

edit #2: OK, so apparently I need to run OneSIM prior to running AnySIM. Weird, tho, my WiFi connection isn't showing up, so I hard rebooted the phone.

Oddly enough, even without unlocking with AnySIM, my old AT&T Wireless SIM is picking up a signal, so technically i don't need to unlock I guess! Still going to tho.

Huh...neither AnySIM nor OneSIM is working, it says "error sending command" and exits.

Hows it going ?

I was editing my post w/ updates. After OneSIM and AnySIM started throwing errors, I uninstalled both of them, rebooted the phone, and installed OneSIM. It's running now, and when it's done, I'll do AnySIM 1.1 and see if it works.

Fingers crossed.

edit: OneSIM completed successfully, and upon reboot, I got the incorrect SIM error, so apparently even after a restore, AnySIM 1.1 must have stuck. Regardless, OneSIM undid it, and AnySIM 1.1 is running again.

edit: SUCCESS! AnySIM 1.1 completed and unlocked correctly. Excellent! now to start re-installing everything...

For future reference: AnySIM 1.1 will survive a restore of 1.1.1. It won't withstand an update to 1.1.2 (You'll have to reunlock wth the appropriate unlocker for the new software) but as long as you stay at 1.1.1 you can restore with impunity and still be unlocked

Good to know.
